Tried to use footage from only the first few hours from each game, Doom isn’t a story heavy series or anything but for newcomers discovering the existence of new weapons, enemies etc by themselves is more fun in my dumb baby opinion. That’s right, gotta be mindful of spoilers for 30+ year old games.

Doom is considered scary because so many of us played it in the 90’s as children that were way too young. Creeping into those dark or strobing rooms while hearing the throaty growl of a pinky somewhere nearby was really scary.

And while the graphics were great for the time our minds filled in the gaps and those demons became as real as could be.

I first played doom on my dads pc in 09 and I distinctly remember being scared even hiding or refusing to fighting some of the higher up demons

@@willoesd2449 Hell I’m 35 and I threw on Doom 93 on my iPhone last night at work trying nightmare and ultra violence for the first time without IDDQD and IDKFA (godmode and all weapons/ammo respectfully). I was still a little hesitant to go into those same rooms with the strobing lights and electrical equipment textures all over again.

I feel like The Dark Ages is gonna be a modern version of Doom 64. Doom 2016 is Doom 1. Doom Eternal is Doom 2. Doom The Dark Ages = Doom 64. I wonder if the one after Dark Ages will have a horror atmosphere like Doom 3.

How to get into Doom... The right way. Get the ultimate Doom. And a dos computer. Or if you like get the ps1 doom. Then get doom 2. Then doom 64 and get an actual n64. Then get the og Xbox for doon3 then get a calculator for doom4. And for eternal play it on a microwave.

With no disrespect, the Dos version of the game is kind of a barrier to entry for a lot of people because of its controls, performance, rendering, etc. Admittedly most people experience the original Doom games with that new Unity port and I’m still a little iffy on that. I recommend people play on a faithful source port with my personal preference being ChocolateDoom.

I mean technically Doom 2016 had platforming in it too, I mean they gave you double jump boots to allow to jump higher to get a higher platform you wouldn’t get to in any other way. In doom eternal you were a fighter jet in doom: the dark ages you’re like an iron tank. Also a shield with a chainsaw on it a weapon that uses demon skulls as ammo and a gatling gun toting cybernetic dragon are some of the most metal things I’ve seen in my life.

I’ve played every doom game. And got every achievement in each game. And I can’t say “I was there when doom 1 was released” or “I’ve been a fan since the beginning” because I wasn’t even born yet. But technically the ones on game cube I did play. But I was too young to even know I played them until my mom said “you played them as a kid” and I was so confused. So realistically I won’t lie. I didn’t get into doom properly until 2016 was announced. Knew about doom before hand (and obviously played them, just not to my knowledge at that point) so before doom 2016 released I decided I would devote myself to the franchise from that point forward. I bought all the old games and played them every day until it was time for 2016 to come out. And it finally came out and I was so unbelievably dog water at it that I pretty much rage quit. Then I went back to the old games and said “I’m going to get every achievement in these games. I don’t care how long it takes” fast forward to 2022. I finally did it. Every doom game, every achievement. All done. And I’ve calculated exactly how many in-game days it took me. 106 days… IN GAME for me to master and gain all achievements. Was it worth it? Yes. Am I now a heavy metal fan because of the games? Yes. Do I watch every doom video that pops up in my feed? Yes. Do I buy every doom themed pack or item in every game that isn’t even doom? Yes. Moral of the story, if you say you want to play doom. Don’t say you’ll devote your entire life to the franchise or you’ll end up like me 💀

There's a few more options btw. Doom 3 has 2 VR versions with their own advantages over each other and it's way cooler there than the og was. Doom PSX CE mod or fan ports are the experience for those who liked 64 and would like to experience it in previous too with new OST, HUD, lighting, somewhat design and enemies/weapons from Doom 2 in Doom 1.

I actually played Mighty Doom before it was taken down, it was just a fun little run and gun with tons of different abilities. Its pace left something to be desired, though. I wanna mow down enemies and crack skulls, I don't wanna spend all my time playing the same level over and over to level up some gear.

Doom 64 horror aspect isnt new. Its the second game to use the horror element. Doom port for Playstation 1 was the first to introduced it and its awesome!

Ya was the same Dev who made both. Honestly I know it’s not a popular opinion but I kinda prefer the Aubrey Hodges dark ambient soundtracks for PS1 Doom and Doom 64. Gives a really cool atmosphere while hunting demons.

Imo ofc but I find GZDoom the best way to play classic DOOMs. Just don't jump and set texture filtering to none and you're good to go with the cleanest image and option to aim how you want (toggleable)
