There *is* truth about cheaply made instruments stopping good music. *Many* a cheap acoustic was built with high string action (string height.) This increases string tension, and if bad enough, it makes strings not play in tune. But even worse, if it's a steel string acoustic with *dramatically* high action, it can gradually collapse the neck joint.* *I have a damaged mid 1930s Sears Steel String Acoustic. Though its damage is probably from storage neglect in a basement or attic (it looks like it got wet, but wasn't dunked in water,) it's an example because the entire guitar is warped from tension over years. The neck joint collapsed, the soundhole area warped (going into the body,) the wood near the bridge & tailpiece (where the strings go on the body end) has sort of beer-bellied out in the opposite direction of the soundhole warping. Also, if someone puts *steel strings* on a *_Classical_** Acoustic,* the higher tension can collapse a neck joint (and do worse.) Classical Acoustics are for *nylon strings* which have lower string tension (80 lbs) than Steel Strings (I don't know offhand how much tension would be for a 6 string, but a 12 string would have 200 lbs, so a 6 string would be somewhere in-between 80 and 200 lbs.) Unless you tune steel strings *much* lower than Standard E Tuning, well... I have another broken acoustic, a Classical Acoustic that previous owners did this to in ignorance. The neck joint collapsed, then half the top of the guitar ripped off from the glue joints. I'm confident that both of these broken acoustics can be fixed, but they could have both been taken care of far better than they were *if* all previous owners knew better. The harder one to fix will be the 30s Sears guitar; the back should probably come off (it already started to come off from neglect,) the wood needs to be re-shaped with clamps and maybe jigs, and one will probably need to utilize higher than average humidity to make the wood pliable. This is not a fast process, if one wants to preserve the old paint. ... But all of that said, you're right that cheap instruments can be good. They just can't be badly made. As an example for a cheap guitar being good, I have a Squier Bullet Strat from 2010 - 2014 that I got in a yard sale, and it plays pretty darn good. The only real problem was the tiny practice amp I got with it, which sounded bad; I can imagine it stunting a beginner's growth in music. Edit: Corrected my mistake on string tension on an acoustic steel string neck. I was quoting the tension for a 12 string, not a 6 string.

This is awesome! I used to play in a pop punk band and we occasionally played bass on one of these for the lols - usually they ended up being the gigs with the heaviest of the bass sounds we had. I think if you added OTT compressor to the snare it would have bought out the crunchy sounds a real snare has. You could also layer the kick with a really short low bass note with a high pass filter to give the sub kick that most producers add as well.

Charles here is an perfect example of a bell curve of instrument quality needs... If you are just starting, it doesn't matter if you play a fancy or basic instrument, because it is your skill, of rather lack there of what's limiting what you can achieve. As you get better and better, you start to appreciate high quality professional instruments, as they allow you to achieve better sound and quality in general... well and then the curve start's to descend again, because when you reach the point where Charles is at right now, it more or less doesn't matter what you play, you are so skilled, that you can produce a masterpiece by hitting a rock with a stick 😄 Massive respect to what Charles is doing 👍

Who needs a $3,000 drum set? Great work creating all of those sounds with a ukulele bass! I've been a fan for over a year, but my interest takes on new meaning as I have just volunteered to play bass for the first time. It's a praise and worship setting, so I hope they'll be forgiving. Oh, boy!!
