This week we're playing a deck that has taken Pauper by storm over the past couple of months: Mono-White Heroic. The main plan of the deck is pretty simple: we play some one and two mana threats with heroic or prowess, and then cast a bunch of cheap spells to pump our creatures and get in huge chunks of damage, hopefully closing out the game before our opponent gets a chance to recover. While the deck plays a lot of cards that look janky, hopefully this is one of the deck where the synergy between the janky-looking cards makes the entire package more powerful than the sum of its parts. Just how good in Mono-White Heroic in Pauper? Let's get to the videos find out!

I don't understand why everyone is shitting on Seth for not knowing pauper when for ages, the line from MTGGoldfish has been "We don't have anyone who knows pauper so we aren't going to make pauper content" and we only get Playing Pauper because Seth has agreed to make it and play some pauper, despite not really knowing the format very well because so many people wanted to see pauper... Give him time - he'll be making ridiculous combo decks soon enough.

Well, the weird thing is that MTGGoldfish got tons of offers from people who were up to take Jake's place (and knew the format, mind you) but for some reason that never went anywhere. This development with Seth himself taking over is even stranger given that he constantly bemoans how little time he has to do extra content.

For reference, having at least two Frogmites in the top 10 and at least 3 Enforcers in the top 11 happens approximately 1 in 500 games. I'm sure some of those don't have proper lands or other artifacts to cast them all. Probably 1 in 600 or 700 chance to get that draw to work.

Standard Bearer is great in the Mono-blue matchup because their "removal" comes in the form of bounce spells. Forcing your opponent to bounce Standard Bearer instead of real threats, only to replay the Standard Bearer at some point in the near future is fantastic. Also, Holy Light is for Elves primarily, though it can work well in Delver matchups if you can catch multiple Faeries or unflipped Delvers. It can also blow out some other mono-colored non-white lists in combat.

Hey Seth! I love Pauper content so much. I'm very glad you've been picking up Pauper very much! Thank you for the extra work for Playing Pauper! It's going to be sweet seeing you evolve from someone who knows Pauper alright, to an expert like Modern. I can't wait to see you see a land and instantly say "Yup, it's [x] deck" and be on the nose. I'm learning more from how you play though. You chose lines of play I would not have thought of, and I've seen you do this for Standard and Modern, but I understand a lot more easily with Pauper. It's my main format. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Please keep up the Pauper content! By far you are my favourite to watch for any MTG content, and I very much appreciate it! I feel like I don't say this enough, or comment enough on your videos. Just mainly not finding the time when I'm watching [At work, on the bus, etc.] But I'm saying ti now! Thank you for being amazing, and awesome, and a HUGE inspiration! You let me know that being a jank brewer is a POSITIVE thing! Unlike what I hear often enough. You're awesome, Seth!

Also in regards to Seth’s voice- it might be strange at first but it really grows on you. Mtggoldfish pumps out a lot of good content and it’d be a shame if his voice scares you away.

I play soul sisters for over two years in my mono-white heroic deck. They are good in many match-ups (affinity for example) and I wouldn't play without them. They also raise my creature-count which is very usefull against black-control, a very popular pauper deck where the totem aura doesn't do anything. Also pollen remedy is a very sweet card in my deck. For anyone who gives the deck a try - check out these additions. After playing the deck for a long time (I started at the beginning of the raise of pauper and mono-black pestilence and heroic were the decks that came into my mind immediately to brew) my deck looks like this: 4 Wingsteed Rider 4 Lagonna-Band Trailblazer 4 Akroan Skyguard 4 Soul Warden 3 Pollen Remedy 1 Allay 4 Defiant Strike 3 Ajani's Presence 2 Pentarch Ward 1 Artful Maneuver 2 Shoulder to Shoulder 4 Hyena Umbra 2 Shelter 1 Emerge Unscathed 21 Plains SB: 2 Standard Bearer 1 Pollen Remedy 1 Allay 1 Enduring Victory 2 Abzan Advantage 1 Shoulder to Shoulder 4 Raise the Alarm 2 Holy Light 1 Emerge Unscathed The list works for me, although I might raise the land count. It has play against many of the big staples in pauper, althought elves and mono-black are tricky to win pre-sideboard.
@PalPlays
@PalPlays 6 жыл бұрын
Peter Klein How does Totem Armor not protect against Victim of Night and Tendrils of Corruption? Sure, it doesn't dodge Edicts, but it's by no means useless. I also have Snuff Outs in my sideboard.
@peterklein3354
@peterklein3354 6 жыл бұрын
That's true they do something - and as you can see I play them in my main. Yet they are weak against black and will be sided out. The deck offers plenty of protection against victim and especially the tendrils. As you said, they are weak against edict-effects and that's why I made that remark. Obviously a good card in many matchups.
@kithkindeck
@kithkindeck 6 жыл бұрын
in the delver game, you missed two damage by leaving emerge up on turn two during game 1. Your opponent beat you at 2 life. If it is blue-black, you have totem armor for the doom blades and the cartouche token for edict so if you're putting your opponent on dimir then pushing damage there was the correct play.

Delver lists usually don’t play daze, bouncing lands is bad in early turns for that deck because it puts you farther away from double spells and gush. Also paying 2 for daze is also worse when counterspell is also at 2 and spellstutter sprite is a flyer that shares a creature type with miscreant. Pauper lists may have changed since I last played but this was my understanding. Am I wrong?

I play Daze in Mono U Delver and always seem to play against it. With so many big threats at 2 and 3 CMC, being able to get Delver or Faerie Miscreant down or use the cantrips AND counter your opponent's early drop is a gigantic tempo swing.
@pauperer1067
@pauperer1067 6 жыл бұрын
Some people play Daze. However, generally speaking, it's a bad idea to fear that your opponent has it. Worst case, your spell gets countered and you trade 1 for 1, and cost them some tempo. If you constantly fear Daze and play around it, you're sacrificing your own tempo even if they may not have it. Make em have it.

What do you think about splashing green for travel preps/rancor? Losing mono color is harder on the one drops but as long as you don't run any green creatures on the curve it seems okay. The spells are incredibly powerful and virtual card advantage.this deck is pretty sweet.

Wizards should put more of those nice uncommons and some rares in pauper imo. Seeker of the Way looks nice in heroic. Vile Manifestation would be too ( that black uncommon he opened in the chest) as would be Auriok Salvagers. Mind revisiting Dynavolt Tower? I'm sorry but the deck seems just alot better with Opt and Flood of Recollection just sound too awesome, it's essentially a pseudo snapcaster as a spell that nets you 2 energy when you cast it, to put something like let's say harnessed lightning back into your hand, to net yourself 5 more energy for just playing harnessed again. Glimmer being in the deck still, adding 4 firebrand archers and just 2 riddleforms. Riddleform is a pseudo tower, and the archers deal damage over time to your apponent as you sling your spells. If you can get multiple archers out or multiple towers out your card advantage is simply tpo much for apponents to handle. Please brew into this. Thanks

PalPlays The fact he's playing in a Pauper format game on a program that enforces basic rules like that should clarify that. There are some fringe cards where they have common printings online that are uncommon or higher in paper where I could see that though.

yeah i know but i thought for a moment that pauper perhaps allowed uncommons or something, im new to the format and not 100% sure, so i was put off by the uncommon....

Pauper is more popular online and there are some old common cards that are sinfully expensive online for some reason (like Cho-Manno's Blessing).

Same reason Mono-Black Control is like $150 in paper. There are some obscure pauper playables like Cho-Manno's Blessing and Oubliette that are expensive in paper for no reason other than limited supply.

MTGGoldfish it's good against Faeries, Elves, greedy Tireless Tribe players, Midnight Gond combo, etc. X/1s just make up a very large percentage of the format. This deck also produces incidental 1/1s so you can use it to gotcha a 2/2 in addition to 1/1s every now and then but that hardly comes up

Stylianos Gakis - "Constructive criticism" doesn't include phrases like, "feel my skin crawling off". Also, Seth's cadence is his natural speaking voice. I doubt there is much he can do about it. As he can do nothing about it, it is not constructive at all. There are dozens of Pauper channels and vloggers he can listen to, if he can't tolerate someone's voice. I just find his comment petty and useless. He can not expect someone to change their voice patterns for him. It clearly bothers him and hinders his ability to enjoy the video. As such, it seems his only recourse is to leave. In hind sight, if his voice is an irritant, you could also watch the videos on mute, with the subtitles on. Bear in mind the subtitles are done by KZbin, so are rife with misspellings. Another option would be to skip the videos and simply read the decklists and articles on mtggoldfish.com . They give a recap of how the deck functioned, as well as suggestions for changes. In either case, complaining about something one can not change is fruitless.
