They are amazing and much misunderstood. Fell in love as a child and still love them at 74. Always find the “I’m too scary to eat” process very touching…they’re so scared. Wonderful video and great job! Such beautiful critters.

Thank you for making and sharing this! I fell in love with them when a tiny one came in through the animal door and made itself at home in my kitchen. I ended up filming them nightly for quite a while. Amazing little creatures.

I have a Opossum pet/rescue named Beetlejuice. She needed a home because she took to her rehab a little too well & loved being cared for by people so when release day came she sniffed her way across the property & slept outside the enclosure. The lady doing the rehab couldn’t keep her because she currently has several that are more special needs. So now she lives with me at a animal sanctuary. It’s been 6 weeks & she’s domesticated herself pretty much & loves to snuggle…so basically she’s a weird cat, or so my dog thinks anyway. But, she still gets a fairly wild life, we spend plenty of time in the woods on the property. Just Beetlejuice & her bodyguard 😂

I absolutely love this video! I care for a colony of Community Cats and have two possums also coming for food. I also have trolls trying to stir up drama by saying possums are dirty, etc. I want to share the link to your video on my channel, The Armchair Cat Advocate. Of course, I will give you full credit! Thanks so much for doing this video!

People are so weird in a mean way when it comes to opossums! I hope this video helps change of those minds!

We are absolutely not dirty! We get that reputation because we are Nature's Little Sanitation Engineers. That means that when some other animal like a skunk or a raccoon tears open your garbage, we may come by afterwards and eat some of the goodies left behind. Sometimes we get dirty but then we clean ourselves up right away. When I am not foraging for food, collecting items to make my den comfortable for a few nights, eating or sleeping, I am grooming myself. We also like to walk against fences and underneath things you might have against your house or fence, like a wood pile or something awesome like that. Sometimes we get muddy. But we always clean up afterwards! We are not dirty and in fact we eat a lot of things you don't like having around. Some examples are earwigs, mice, slugs (wow do we love slugs!) and snails and even snakes. I am immune to most venomous snakes. I am always happy to partake in cat food but it's not a great food if that's all I eat. My favorite fruits are persimmons and I have yet to meet a possum who doesn't like them. It's like one of our national foods. But I also love apples. We don't like Red Delicious and I found out from another human that they are one of the widest known apples in the US but they were bred by humans to have a great color. I was surprised. They aren't being grown for their flavor, which I find mealy. Another thing I love and so my fellow possums is hard boiled eggs. I actually like eggs no matter what hard boiled eggs make less of a mess. Most of us live in a general area and we don't have permanent dens. We just look for a good den that someone else already made and we collect stuff like leaves and plastic bags and napkins and things like that to put into the den but we don't like to stay too long in any one place. A couple of nights in total, unless we have joeys. Then we will stick around little longer. Tell whoever tells you this about us being dirty that they don't understand what is going on. We aren't rats. Another thing is that you should be careful admitting that you have possums showing up at all. Some awful humans might blame us for all kinds of thing we didn't do. I can assure you where you are has always had possums and the neighbors just never saw us. But when they see us they get mad. I've lost a lot of family members to horrible humans.

@@PascarelliProductions Thank you for your support of me and my fellow possums. I have heard some humans think we are ugly and that is why they are mean, or they hate rodents and think we are like big rats. Some people will do unspeakable things to us out of hatred and fear. The thing is, my first line of defense is showing you my 50 teeth. That's more teeth than any other mammal. If I do that and hiss and maybe drool a bit, that is often enough to scare away any predator including humans. But when you see me with a relaxed happy face, I think I'm pretty cute. Keep spreading the word for my kind, I really appreciate it. We've been around since the dinosaurs and we haven't changed much at all. People love dinosaurs! Tell them we're from that time! And we're the only North American marsupial. I hope you always have a nice stocked up fridge with things humans eat and a well lined den to sleep in!

the scared possum was interesting. it was so tiny, I wonder how old it was. but it was trying so hard! thank you for sharing this. I've mainly only encountered possums in suburban areas and so felt like they were unnatural where I saw them. but I feel sorry for so many getting run over by cars. some of the species in the southern US are kind of cute looking (in particular the moms with tons of kids hanging on her back). also the people care about possums so much. that was sweet.

Yeah our possums in Australia aren’t cute and cuddly…they’ll growl and bite and they will not play possum and just lay there..nothing in Australia is cuddly, don’t be fooled by their appearance, even a koala that looks like a cute teddy bear, given a chance would love to scratch and bite u…and of course our drop bears that fall out of trees…directly on top of u while ur casually taking a nice walk….COME TO AUSTRALIA THEY SAID..IT WILL BE FUN THEY SAID….come and have a beer with us,sit on a white sandy beach…just don’t approach the wild life

They est 4 to 5000 ticks a day. Have an enzyme in thier blood to ward off cancer. They do not get rabies. I used to rehab them from 2005 to 2007. Awesome critters. Exceptionally clean. They slubb you by rubbing on you and washing you❤ You are KNIGHTED into thier world when this is done. Be honored❤

The marsupials are the living branch of the metatherians. Only one made it to North America and this had nothing to do with a disadvantage competing with eutherian mammals. What’s held them back is the Mexican desert which is a huge barrier for species from South America to move north In its absence, they would be more widespread here.

Australian Possums and the American Opossums are from two different orders. Possums are more closely related to Wombats and Kangaroos than Opossums. 💜
