The W is a 50. If one throws away preconceived notions of distance and work backwards from the distance rather than from the number on the sole, they’re just fantastic irons.

Years ago I tried every club in the shop new and used… they felt so good and I hit them straight. I bought them used. I took them to Ping where they fit them to me free of charge. They re-gripped them for a small fee. They looked brand new. The lofts are not the same as other clubs so when my friends ask me what club I’m using… I tell them don’t ask me… I had to take them to the range and figure out the distance for each club. After all these years I still love them.

Legendary Pings! The Ping Eye 2 clubs certainly set the standard in golf clubs with Karsten and his NASA engineering background. I still own a complete set of Eye 2 + (2-SW) and ISI Nickle (2-PW) to go along with my new G430s. I've been a Ping player since the early 80s and collect the older putters. Actually prefer the older "classic" putters better than the newer PLDs.

I am 27 and I play ping eye 2's from 2-9 and W and a Callaway 60° Forged V. I want to get a wedge to fill the gap between the two. What would you recommend? Also what putter would you recommend for someone that loves the old ping putters that make the "PING" noise but don't really know what to get or are they not worth playing today?
@MikeBriggs249 ай бұрын
@@Treyz44 As far as wedges go, it really depends on the turf conditions where you normally play. I use a low bounce MG4 for all but winter conditions. And this time of year I game the Cleveland Smartsole wedges. The grass here is generally dormant bermuda with awful lies. The smartsole wedges are ugly, but really perform well. For putters, I recommend maybe a Scottsdale Anser either in BeCu or Nickle. I have several of these that are such a joy to game. But the putter in my bag today is a PLD Anser D.

What was so great about this video Gabe, was that we are accustomed to which clubs you hit on your home course on certain holes/situations. So it was such a great comparison to see how these sticks have held up over time! If you ever see any TaylorMade RAC irons, these play soft & long, and are my favourite classic "Sunday set." So many of us upgraded from RAC to the Sim or M2, it would be interesting to see how these stack up against modern clubs. Great work!

I’ve got a set of Ping ISI irons, I’ve had from new since 1998. I’ve only returned to golf after 15 years off (kids get in the way) and picking them up and hitting them again was like an old friend. I wanted to embrace the modern tech and so bought a set of PXG 0211 but i'm struggling to hit them as accurately and as well as the Pings. Sure the PXG go a lot further, 7 Iron of PXG is equivelant to the 5 iron in the Pings but I hit the 5 iron of the Pings with such a nice strike and the sound is amazing. What I want is a set of the Pings with the modern lofts and tech but with the feel and sound of the old clubs. You suggested Wilson may be close, what about Srixon forged? Have you tried them?

Did the super driver video come out yet? Just wanted to check I’m not missing it, I recall you talking about it during the Takomo review video.

Very soon, I had to take the super driver to get fixed. Just got it back yesterday

Are all the Edwin Watts stores closing now, or just the Tampa store? I was just at the one in Orlando off of I-4 a couple of weeks ago.
@LetsPlayThru2 жыл бұрын
Just the Tampa one, they weren’t able to renew their lease with the plaza.

To complete the 80's trip you need some Titliest Balata's for the ultimate feel.

From late 1990's into early 2000's I played Ping Eye 2 with ZZ Lite Cushin shafts. I've bought and sold at least 8 sets of clubs since then. And I can still fondly remember the feel and performance of the Eye 2. Though I would not return to the club over my current set of Honma TW / World with graphite shafts. Newer technology does offer better performance.

Love all three sets of Honma irons that I own.

Hi, I'm a golfing musician as well. Jazz guitarist. Anyway since my October 2022 post about Honma clubs, I traded those in to buy a set of Titleist T200i. Returned to steel shafts after the Honma graphites. Overall my long shots are more consistent , 10% longer and more predictable. So happy with the Titleist that I also bought the TSi2 driver, 3 wood, 5 wood and 5 hybrid.

@@SONOMA_VALLEY_TOM I have two sets with steel and one with Vizard graphite. The steel shafts work better for me as well.

These are still legit. The Ping Eye2 and Taylormade R7 changed the game.

@@LetsPlayThru Black dot, 2i - 9i. Lost any wedges I had along the way somewhere. I do have a matching era Ping ISI black dot SW though that I play.

It's not strange that you hit the 8 iron 135-140 yards. The Eye2 8 iron is probably 40-41 degrees of loft. if I remember correctly the 5 iron is like 28 degrees.
@LetsPlayThru2 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly. I think thru the bag they are about 4-6º weaker than modern sets.

I love my ping eye 2 coppers . 2 through pw in a whole bag of clubs at a garage sale for 60 dollars. Sold rest of clubs for 175. I play my best rounds with them.
