I had heard Mike was playing again so I was lucky enough to get to play him a bit. If you don't know Mike Watson was one of the most famous SF players of all time back in the day. First it was Tomo, then Watson, then after that it was Valle and Choi that kinda vibe.
I'm not sure what Mikes reputation is in the scene now but ive never had any problems when I met him back a few times back in the day, and as I told a story before he once offered to buy me a new controller when I didnt have a good working one which I didnt take him up on but I appreciated the gesture. And of course ive always had a lot of respect for him game wise as I have fond memories of reading about people that got to play video games as of course ive told the story I only got to play randomly if my grandma took me to the arcade generally speaking. So it was neat to meet him eventually.
I havnt played mike since it was me and him at EVO2k6 which ive talked about before when it was me and him in the finals for alpha and somehow durning the finals someone pulled the fire alarm rolls eyes and we never got to finish the set. That whole tourny I talked about though and as showed on stream even years after I left the scene people tried to pretend I cheated to get there etc which is so ridiculous. Anyway curiously enough as well as it would be that was actually the last tournament I traveled to, as my health was deteriorating more and more and I only entered a few more local tournaments that I won and never entered again.
Anyway I feel very lucky to have gotten a chance to play him again. And when we talked after I wish I could have played him when we both cared about video games so to speak and were playing at our best.. But it was still nice to have the chance to play him again.
Anyway didnt put up the first few matches where I played guy cuz my controller of course is kinda funky and its been awhile and I was missing easy stuff so I just decided to go upload the ryu stuff. Maybe I should roll the dice on another one of those retrobit sega saturn pads....
Anyway to those that dont know anything about the game, mike is playing auto mode, which lets you block for free for awhile, and gives you one button supers... The down side to auto mode is you only get one level of super, and there are certain moves that are a little harder to punish with auto block enabled. You also are forced to stand block specials which can be used against you in a few niche examples. Whatever the case although at face value you might think its for beginners its used in touranments and mike used to win tournaments with it. And of course if youre playing the hyper alpha version of the game is completely busted as theres a bug with it makes it so you cant be hit by any over head ever etc.
Anyway I know people ask me to upload matches of me playing, but the thing is I really just dont play games very often. Even this game I dont think ive played more than what maybe 15 hours in over 10 years? Which is always funny because I see people say they hate this game, and then I see them playing it online and theyve played the game more than I have in just a year or whatever it might be...
Oh well.... I am slightly tempted though now to try to get another sega saturn pad if people are randomly signed on to play this game though now...

Thanks dude it was a honor to get a chance to play you again. I know it sounds cheesy, but I've said it before my videos one of my only happy memories when I was a kid was getting to read video game magazines and reading about games like Street Fighter and then every now and then my grandma would take me to the arcade so I would get a chance to play so I have fun memories about reading about guys like you from back then so it was great whenever I got the play you for real. I wish we could have played each other when we were both into games for real. Anyway hope all is well as usual

I mean one of these matches you can see me I think its 3 times in a row with ryu i just get a duck jab when I try to dp later in the set vs charlie. And then one fireball instead of DP. I dont think its all lag, i think its part controller and just not playing enough and hands. And watson is too good to just do simple guy gimmicks and win.

ha you know its funny that they were recording us for EVO2k6 and then you know.. me winning was bad.. so they tried to disqualify me at some point.... and im like dude why would you disqualify me when im winning? Then oh sorry um well now we have to redo everything.. then me and watson get to finals play one match then someone pulls fire alarm so we dont get to finish. Such bs. And then of course even worse to see years after I leave the community I see people going on stream saying I cheated to beat other people and did stuff thats not even in the game.. and hell one stream which I even showed on my page not only said I did stuff to beat people that didnt exist they tried to say I got 4th. Like they were that insecure they just couldnt admit that some sick kid beat them. I just think about how fucking weird the community is about losing to me and trying to erase it from the history of the scene. And then of course again A1 is also funny because you see people who say they hate this game, but you can look at their fightcade theyve played the game more in the past year than ive played in like 10 years its like come on dude.

I have a question regarding your button set up for your Saturn pad. Are you assigning all 6 face buttons light - heavy attacks or do you also use the shoulder button/buttons in your layout?

Yeah I mean I'm not sure what else the buttons would be on a Sega Saturn pads since it's a six button game and top shoulder button is the coin

@@SaishuuKessen more specifically I was curious if instead of using the z button for hp or the c button for hk you remapped either of those to instead be left or right shoulder button, but from your response it seems like the shoulder buttons are exclusive to being the coin button.

oh yea its just normal like it would be on a arcade cabinet. So yea whatever is the most right buttons are the hard attacks, and left are the light attacks. For the most part im ok playing on a saturn pad, of course it has some disadvantages but after my surgery which was along time ago now ive justed well enough I think. There are some things that I never got good at though, like I suck at charging on pads.. I dunno why its just hard for me for some reason.. And if I were to play say CE, or HF, doing the that chain combo bug or whatever it is where you have to pressure short and fierce at the same time is basically nigh impossible .. or I guess if I had to play geif, or say rog and always had to press 3 buttons or hold them id be screwed.. but I dont so..... but other than that ya im fairly competent.

That who tourney like I said in my videos was wack as hell. I remember them trying to disqualify me at one point when I went up for my next match. Like some stupid excuse of we disqualified you because we thought you didnt want to play. Its like wtf dude im winning what do you mean I dont want to play? It was very weird. Then finally in the finals me and mike played one match and boom. someone apparently pulled the fire alarm and we had to stop. Then later on hour or so whatever they just handed me some money and were like hey it would be to hard to find everyone again and finish the tournamnet so since mike won the first match will just give him first place and you second. It was like.. dude... theres only 2 of us left what do you mean it would be to hard to find everyone to finish the tournament? Really weird. And then of course after the tournament dudes changed their opinion were writing how they hate the game(even though all their posts before were how they loved it and it was awesome)and I was doing crazy shit in the game that wasnt even real. Which again I dont recall now if I got the game right before EVO or right after , but I know after that I tried and im like.. all this shit they are accusing me of, isnt even in the game. And then of course years later as I posted as well they were going on stream and saying how awesome the game was but started adding some weird stuff like oh A1 character are to good, guy had redizzy combos in this version of the game all day, and some surfer boy came blah blah and got 4th just doing that. And I was like first of all, I got second at least until you guys(or someone) pulled the fire alarm, and guy doesnt even have the shit you are talking about in this version. It just was retarded... Anyway nothing again mike though hes always been cool to me though. Although I do think it was funny yes some dudes got mad after I posted this and tried to say I made it sound like I always beat mike and al this kinda stuff.. and im like.. dude where? I never said I beat mike more than he beat me. I said he beat me. And then excuse of well you play this game all the time and he has never played.. Its like.. dude ive gone years with out playing games, and im not sure what youre talking about because anyone can look mike has multiple accounts on fightcade if anything lol. I have a video about it on my page just how shady that tournament was run. They switched the speed on me durning one match.. At one point when I was waiting for my next match they disqaulified me because they said I didnt want to play. I was like dude wtf ive been checking in with you constantly. Why would I not want to play? Im winning right now.. and then of course after on SRK people acted like they hated the game blah blah, started saying I was doing all these weird bugs and things against people that didnt even exist in the game. And I was like if all that is true, why did you guys have it at EVO and you were excited to play it? which you know is even more true because I showed on stream later, these same people said they like the game and changed their story again lol. Again theres another video on my page as well where after I heard all the shit talk I went and got the hyper alpha version of the game just to test it out myself and you can watch the video, all the stuff they talked about that I supposedly did to beat them. Is not even in the game.

Wonder if there could be a way to code a game or something and have it so the super only triggers the cutscene if the game calculates that it knows its going to kill you or something.

@@SaishuuKessen If I have to describe it the best, the fixation of combos has led them to become these huge juggernauts that break the rules to exist as they are today. Anime fighters tend to make excessive juggles, from moves that 100% don't have those properties, to justify their excessive lengths and then go on to make the supers last longer for the combo videos. Instead of, you know, making a fucking comprehensible fighting arcade game for normal people to pick up at the arcade. Can you imagine if a racing game derails the point of the game, racing against your opponent, to suddenly be about labbing combos on the opponent to drastically slow them down? That's how these advanced combo designs have fucked with the 2d Fighting games for a long time and make them inaccessible for a normal person.

theres not a lot of real high level of a1 matches on the internet anymore in the first place. They used to save all the replays I think it was on supercade back in the day maybe it was, and you could see many matches of me playing the japanese etc.. theres still a handful of matches that some random brazilian guys uploaded from GGPO like 12 years ago or something but again its slim pickings.. Hell I dont know of any matches of watson playing the game from back in the arcade days that exist on the internet anymore and he was considered the best alpha 1 player there was. And even that tournament in the 2006 we had they only uploaded a few matches from it that you can find on youtbe. which of course is very suspicious given the circumstances.. but then you can see in streams they took about it sometimes and have made up crazy shit acting like i cheated to beat people and was doing stuff thats not even in the game. Its really pathetic. Anyway its to bad I dont have really anything saved myself from when I was playing a bit years and years ago.. cuz im deff slower now.. I know I cant do ryu mash on duck shortX3, to duck medium, or stand fierce for the dizzy combo, i always just usually do X2. But you can see me do that in combo videos for this game since its a important thing to do if youre playing the game to be good at it. Me and watson have been catching up a bit talking again and I told him as well I wish I could have gotten to play him when we both care about games, but it is what it is.... Anyway like I said though ive never had a problem with him personally and hes always bee nice to me in our handful of interactions throughout the years. And of course I have a lot of respect for him. Im not sure how much he is talked about now a days, since I think most people think of a valle and choi being the old school guys and they are OGs, but maybe newer people forget before guys like valle and choi were considered the best in america by many. It was guys like tomo and watson. Tomo quit in HF iirc and I dont think he played even super or ST. But watson up to A1 was still considered by many to the best street fighter player in america.

nah like i said game doesnt interest me.. I think at face value its a intresting game.. But then when you see it in action, like i said before and I feared the game is super homogenzied, system becomes boring because all characters use it the same way generally speaking. Characters are to preplanned.. its just robotic.. I mean I could go on and on.. Thats not to say I dont think its a competent game. Its fun enough to watch for a few minutes, and its better made than say strive was.. but god the thought of playing it is dreadful.

Nice matches; way more interesting than where fighting games have fallen. Seems the only interesting things going on in the mainsteam are the JPN team showmatches. Then again SFVI being lame hardly matters for that.
