You can seal your page with golden glazing liquid. Instead of cotton pads I've seen others fold a paper towel into a thick stiff little triangle. I don't care for the fuzzy fibers coming off the cotton pads. You can blend with your fingers. Your first try was great.

@valeriel3103 There is no need to seal a page with oil pastels on them at all with any fixatives ect.... especially golden glazing liquid that is not used to seal anything with at all.

You can use a blending brush snd your fingers (though I don't really like the mess) with your oil pastels instead of the paper stump. Some also use odorless mineral spirits to blend them out. Mu Coloring Corner with Rene has done some oil pastel backgrounds in these different ways. Good luck and have fun with your new medium.

It works well for getting in the small areas but the makeup pad was better at blending out the colours 🤗

Your page turned out so nice for first time using oil pastels (no surprise). I have not tried oil pastels yet but I am taking notes on ones who do as they make for really nice background. One youtube colorist (Maia ) I viewed said she used FolkArt Acrylic Craft Paint Flash Iridescent, they also have a clear matte as well ...the iridescent was subtle and looked nice on her page. I think when I try it that is what i will use due spray fixative fumes. Thank you for the demonstration it's very helpful!

I loved your picture!!! I really enjoy some 0f~ Art by Karen Valentine~ videos where she does some absolutely beautiful oil pastel backgrounds for her portraits. They are worth checking out because you can use the oil pastels as thick or thin as you want and get beautiful effects. The key is to use a fixative at the end then it doesn’t matter. Also, some people use those white oil pastels to blend the colors and transitions together as well. Really enjoy all of your videos!💜

Thank you, I based it with alcohol markers with prismas for shading. Then a whole lot of sparkle pop pens and CSY paints 🤗🎨
