I worked with animals my entire life and have seen bucks who would eat from your hand and let you pet them turn and attack during the rut.....never a good idea to acclimate wild animals to humans to this level

The kid is lucky she didn't get hurt or even killed. Someone here said it's normal for kids to be boisterous if they don't have animals at home. They must meet up with animals somewhere because the mother very plainly said, "Why are you so rough with animals?". That deer was not friendly. He was curious. And he did not LET the kids pet him. The girl snuck up and attacked when he wasn't looking. That was probably her luckiest moment.

They've never been alone in the forest when a male deer has been huffing at you like it's going to kill you. Not a very comfortable feeling. Don't understand the insanity of some people. Just a friendly piece of advice ma’am since you’re a woman. If it’s close to the rut you need to be extra careful when interacting with a buck especially if you’re on your period and it’s anytime right before, during or right after the rut. My cousin and his wife were in the pen with a buck he found when it was a fawn. It was toward the end of the rut and she was last day of “being in the saddle,” as my Ex used to say. This buck smelled her and went batshit crazy. It was pawing and snorting running around the pen. She’s lucky she got out uninjured and he was lucky to be able to get up the tree that was inside the pen.

No, that’s teaching them to trust dangerous wild animals. Deer kill plenty of people by stabbing them with antlers. It’s not a pet dog, it’s a wild animal. It’s good to teach them to not mess with wild animals. You could be as gentle as you want but still get killer by it.

I have been hunting deer my whole life. A swollen neck is not always with every deer in the rut. This deer could be pre rut as well. But the behavior of this deer is not uncommon. I have harvested deer I have seen in the chasing phase in rut and did not have the dark glands.

What is silly human quality to put two animals. As my comment above says, I've been a deer hunter all my life. I know these animals. A healthy one would have been spooked a hundred yards ago. But this one sort of staggers around with a day's look on its face not even really acting like a deer. It never has its head up. And then if you notice how it walks there's something wrong with its hind end gate. This is a sick animal. Wild animals don't all of a sudden become docile because of respect or any other silly human quality. This is a dangerous situation and kill over a hundred people a year. That's right, wild deer kill approximately 100 people a year. The only way that beer is going to act like this is if it's sick

Deer were like this in Brown County State Park in Indiana when I was a kid. Completely comfortable with humans, we even hand fed them some green beans. Could literally hunt them with a snub nose .38 if you wanted to. Alas, the population got too large and was heavily culled by hunting and the deer regained their proper fear of man.

@@MT-od6by A lot of people and organizations like PETA and ASPCA don’t realize that we hunters are some of the best wildlife conservationist you’ll ever find. And no we don’t go out and shoot every animal that moves. That’s a crock of BS, we’re selective in the say deer we harvest, we try to take only a mature animals. We put acres of food plots for them to eat and we maintain a good size herd but not too big. Over populated areas leads to disease and starvation. We take care of our deer and turkeys not only for our sake but for the sake of our kids and Grandkids. And if you’ve never seen overpopulation and starvation it’s a gut wrenching thing to see.

Josh Piper He actually did! He came back 2 more times and was just as sweet. I think he liked our acorn tree. Made me so nervous bc I don't know much abt deer but know they can be unpredictable and dangerous! This was a couple months before rut though. Kindof relieved when he stopped coming around but so greatful for the awesome experience! Kids will remember this the rest of their lives.

Deers neck was really skinny, not to mention it’s overall small size. Probably only a year and a half old, and certainly not rutting, which is when deer get dangerous. His fight or flight dial is firmly set on flight, there was probably less than a 1% chance that he would have hurt the kids, if he felt he was in danger, he’d have just run away

Are you for real ? ? ? Wildlife is wildlife you never play with them or allow your children to do so. It does not matter if the buck was in rut. Let me tell you a short story , several years ago we had a state park that was over run with deer. It would draw people in from all over , just one of many incidents. A family decided they were going to feed the deer , and note the state park has signs everywhere " DO NOT FEED THE DEER " . While the family was feeding the deer one of their children a 8 year old decided to grab the buck by his antlers. The deer threw the child in the air about 6 ft , later the family contacted the DNR requesting the buck be put down. Put some thought into what your saying. 🤔🤔🤔
