I just found this video and I'm crazy about what you've done. Now I have to find the video where you show how to make the puddles!!!! Thanks for all the great instruction & inspiration!

The color change made the plate a piece of art vs a craft.

Love the video, new to fusing and watch a lot of videos for techniques. The color choice was perfect. I'll be trying puddles soon. Thank you, very much.

Did I miss why you split the tekta? Release bubbles??
@JamaisonSchuler

LOL - no, to use scrap in the base! I am going through my tekta so fast so I’ve decided to get creative with hiding scraps in my project underbellies! 😂

Do you have to be mindful of fumes when the glass kiln is firing, as you do in ceramics? Love the puddles. x
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler 3 жыл бұрын
Rarely. Glass itself does not release toxic fumes. Some materials (such as kiln paper) may burn off binders but they are also non toxic. My wife says it smells like a roasted marshmallow. 😊

That grey was a good idea, even though I thought the blue was pretty good too, they grey was better! Who knew! Very nice 👍😉

It turned out really nice. I don't think that is devit along the edge though. From what I can see the marking matches your thumb shape. I have immortalized many finger markings in pieces over the years.

I agree with you... I think it has more to do with user error on that edge.

Thank you for sharing, Jamaison! May I ask you, did you add clear powder to the whole grey area but the puddles? If yes, were they the same thickness as the puddles? Have you tried before adding puddles without sprinkling glass powders on the plate? Thanks a lot.
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler 3 жыл бұрын
I covered the whole surface with powder for that second firing to give an even, glossy look. You could certainly skip this but I think it gives a cleaner look to the final piece by evening out the appearance of the puddles. Does that help?

Hey Jamaican. Super video!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing your learning. Have you ever considered doing a platter where you fire the good side down on the kiln shelf. I saw someone post a picture the other day - they didn’t have a sandblaster but wanted a dull finish on the piece so they turned it good side down in the kiln shelf during the full fuse. It was pretty cool actually.
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler 3 жыл бұрын
I've often looked at the underside and wondered about doing that very thing. Could be a great idea for something like this, but I wonder if the surrounding glass would close in around the puddles well enough to give a perfectly smooth underside? Sounds like another experiment!

@@JamaisonSchuler Good question. My thinking was that it would look exactly the same just a rougher finish.

When you added a dust of clear frit, did you full fuse again?
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry I missed this question the first time! Yes, I full fused again although I'm not sure you have to take it up quite that high. But I didn't mind full fusing to get the puddles as flat as possible.

excellent color choice, the colors in the puddles show up more with the grey background, very nice piece (but you are making me dizzy by twirling the plate with the light bulb reflections from above!!!)

@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler 3 жыл бұрын
What colors did you use? I didn't list colors because I can't recall what they were specifically. I'm thinking the white was dense white and the blue is turquoise. The brown came from scraps and never had a color code assigned to it, so I really have no idea on it.
@dnvrginger
@dnvrginger 3 жыл бұрын
@@JamaisonSchuler I used Robins egg, Vanilla and.reactive Copper .. I loved your puddles so much and that was my closest guess. Ugh🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler 3 жыл бұрын
I bought a bag of mixed scrap glass from Slumpy’s a few years ago, and I think that brown came from that bag? Hell, maybe all three colors did? I know it wasn’t robin’s egg, I’m thinking it was 116 turquoise. You didn’t get a reaction between the robin’s egg and vanilla? My best guess on the brown would be 337 butterscotch. But who knows... could even be something that’s been discontinued? 🤷🏻‍♂️
