Lovely painting Helen ❤ 😊 I first used the W&N water mixable oils for an online oil painting course & their blendability after using only acrylic before was a revelation! Fab paints. That course taught an initial block in of basic colour & tones with acrylic, so that it dried quickly, then the oil paint could be applied over the top. It found it worked really well for me 😊

Oo - you put down acrylics first, the oils over! Interesting! I really do need to educate myself on them. Thank you!

Such a lovely painting😍 You are so good at not being afraid and just diving in, trying new things and then producing wonderful and expressive paintings like this. I’ve not tried water mixable oils before, they look exciting but I’m going to resist the temptation to add any to my basket🙈 I need to be more ‘Helen’ and stop being afraid to use the lovely things I already have😂

Ah, that's so nice, thanks!! Yes - this year is (hopefully mainly) about embracing what we have! I think I've almost used getting more art materials as a diversion from fear of actually engaging with my art materials, and I don't want to keep running away from them any more. Time to get on with it!!

Graham oils that I started with sometime ago. With simple, beginner success. But haven’t had time to continue. Oil seems like the pinnacle for me. Nothing wrong with your technique, that is you. In this case you captured the scene well and from the look of things made it look more stormy that it really was. That's fine though and make it a more dramatic work. If I saw this in a shop, I'd be very tempted to buy it. (That is a BIG compliment. 😅) And can I recommend Hahnemühle Cornwall 450g paper. Great texture, like rough canvas, and like a board in use. Aptly named for where you live. 😆

Thank you! I feel very complimented!! I think making it look stormy wasn't intentional - I just don't have any blending skill yet 😂
