still to this day i play Captain Sisay as my Cedh deck. (the green/white one) i know its slower and less effective than other decks but its still my gem and i hope i still can play it a long time from now.

While I wouldn't consider it outdated (yet), my main bae Gitrog has felt like it's falling behind. While it has had some upgrades, the strategy has had to shift from turbo combo to way more midrange due to the speed of Red compared to Green. I'm also feeling the lack of good proactive Green cEDH spells being added into the format. I think the last new cards that I added or have seen added were from MH2, which came out almost 2 years ago now.

Green needs a cheap partner legend that gives your creatures haste to be able to chain dorks. Then maybe green could be a colour again.

In my defense, I did say my kid kept me up the night before that tournament and I would probably do something dumb. I then confirmed that by playing Rocco on 4 directly into an Op Agent and then allow him to trigger.

Dramatic Scepter is a way better name for the combo than IsoRev, I'll die on that hill. As a Stax enjoyer it's tough seeing that both BloodPod (Now Bloodless Pod) and other stax variants are having trouble keeping up, and Winota being the premier stax deck playing "fair magic" is wild. Underworld Breach and Thoracle are just such busted wincons that the format has become much faster than stax can bog down. To everyone that is sick of Thoracle and Breach lines, remember that basically every era was winning with the same best wincons, this era has just been the longest.

I wonder how a deck with access to Flash-Hulk but no Oracle would fare at a table with decks of the current banlist. Ditto Paradox Engine.

Playing Yisan at a cedh table feels kinda bad, but I think it's probably the best scenario for green because it can play a fair amount of assymetrical stax pieces that really hurt the current format but its still lacking a bit in speed

Regarding Stax as a strategy being bad, I've seen a Queen Kayla deck that absolutely slaps in our meta, however I think it works as an exception to the rule because it has a card advantage engine slapped onto it (having red probably helps too)

There's a bit of a double standard when talking about some of the "newer" cards. Recently, I've noticed an increase in content creators praising Ranger-Captain of Eos's power level which is partially due to the printing of Esper Sentinel in MH2. However, calling Ranger-Captain a "recent" printing and then critiquing Collector Ouphe for being "forever ago" is misleading when they were both printed in the same set.

I am just getting into cedh and might invest into Godo. Seems like it does not fall out of favor in the next year or two with all the Red stuff. The topic of rotating decks or cards make my wallet cry even more and I would like to make sure not to invest in a "C Tier" commander thats allready on the edge. Thank you for any responses and opinions.

If you dont want to invest into a certain deck just go for proxies. The community is proxy friendly. And you can test multiple decks like this and find the one you like the most before buying stuff.

I would argue the transition from Scepter to Consultation started immediately after the Paradox ban (exemplified by the rebrand of PST into CST), if not even a bit before the actual ban. It's just that a few months later Thoracle got printed and slammed the door on it, but the format was already largely headed that way, the way I see it.

Don’t fret Cal.. I can’t imagine how control doesn’t make a comeback. Midrange decks have taken a lot of the meta share from turbo decks so it seems like the midrange decks are just begging for someone to go overtop of them. Yeah.. the game was over before you could play Rashmi when your pod was Godo v Korvold v Rog Si or whatever but what about the triple Blue farm pod? Prob not gonna end the game before you get Rashmi out right? I think decks like Radhmi and Atraxa, and 4 color control might be set to win games now

hasn't combo always been the way to go in cEDH? it is the fastest. I find it fun seeing combat decks win, you know, Nejeela and such, when its not a Thoracle combo, which that deck plays because it can. But yeah, that's why I love Godo, it is Combo, technically, but you still need to attack. it was funny, seeing Charles switching from mono-white to a 4 colour deck and absolutely destroying the table haha.

I’m currently playing blood pod and feel it’s been really outdated since it’s mostly the blood moon/tutor based strategy. I’ve been looking to change it from blood pod to something faster like a turbo nause/breach combo and I liked that a lot better

I really miss Paradox Sisay...probably b/c I didn't complete the deck until two months before the banning of Paradox Engine. It also had some fun fringe combo lines. Great conversation guys!

Bit of a spicy take, but imo cEDH players on average aren’t good enough that decks truly become outdated. The only consistent exception is probably pure proactive decks where the time to kill is just too slow, and even those have a place in certain metas. Anything else, if you have good stax/interaction and are the better pilot you’re good enough for cEDH tables.

It's all about %. Sure any deck can win sometimes, but if over 10,000 games your deck isn't going to win at least 20% then it's bad.

It makes me sad that this is so true i was completing my first cdh deck which is azami when i realized its just to slow for newer combos also having to tap the wizards make me a huge target i think whats going to wake cdh up is if they print new partner commanders

Ive been a spectator to cEDH since I got into Magic, and I've always wanted to build for it, but hearing that resource denial and stax are bad now is really disheartening. I don't want to play a format where Blood Moon is pointless.
