Hey Ron. Great video. Trouble shooting this machine can be a night mare, if you don't think it out. Your able to go throu the schematics and follow the path that controls what happens. Can't wait for your next video. What to see this running with no problems.

You sir are the Sherlock Holmes of pinball machine repair. Love how you explain all this. When I was young I played a machine that if you put in a certain year of a quarter it racked up multiple free games. I always wondered if a machine could possible do that or if some one was playing with me when I was at such a young age. Keep up the great work 😀
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade 3 жыл бұрын
I've never heard of one being able to tell what year quarter but maybe it had something to do with a silver one or something, or if you put a dollar coin in, but I wouldn't put anything past them, maybe they figured out how to do that :) Thanks for watching AK-Gyrator!

@@LyonsArcade More info that might possibly help explain what was happening but still have no clue why this happened. The machine was in a little mom and pops store in Canada in the 70"s. I remember me and my brother and my cousins searching quarters to find a certain year. We even went to the bank and bought some rolls of quarters to search through. I don't expect you to have a reason why this happened, just giving more info on what happened. Keep up the great work, I enjoy you're uploads Sir :)

This video is a lifesaver, I'm working on a Speakeasy with a similar problem. To make things worse the relays in the back box have no labels. I already spend hours to track down the problem. Now you explain the different approche they used in Spain ;)

With things that have set screws, I usually draw a line across the shaft so I know to line it up with the line when I put it back together, then wipe the line off (if needed) with a little IPA once it is back together :). I always enjoy watching your troubleshooting technique. You always follow best practice with the way you work through from start to finish.

Notice how it 'bit me' a little bit this time, because I tried to troubleshoot before I had cleaned the playfield switches... and the game can't possibly start without the playfield plugged in :) START AT THE BEGINNING AND DON'T SKIP ANY STEPS

good job on the explanation of the score reset. unlike american pinball where all the score reels move at the same time until the relays are disengaged by the zero position dropping out the rest signal to scoring solenoid. I once had a rest that would never end and it was in one of the 16 scoring reels that had one not shorting out and causing the score motor to keep running. I went through every reels and didn't find it. then put card stock in every switch that I was reading shorted then started breaking the daisy chain until I found where the short was. it turned out that a little strand of wire from a lamp socket had penetrated the loose cloth insulation of the wire for the zero position switch and was tricking the game into thinking that it hadn't zeroed out all the scores. I was looking in all the wrong areas for the problem and the problem was so small I never saw it until I took a close up look and could finally notice a strand. servicing the pinball machine had me tug on the wiring harness and move the wire close into the wire strand. a lot of that machine seems to be a gottlieb cousin except for the reset

Those ones with one little wire out of place are the toughest to figure out! I'd much rather something be horribly broken because at least then you know what the problem is :) Thanks for watching Robert!

Thanks! I took the bonus unit apart to clean it, but I think the switch is not closing now, so that's why the reset sequence can't complete!

Saw one where the clutch would not drop out so it rolled right into the Index switch turning on and repeating the cycle.[4:48} Playmatic and Sonic had issues where the wire was Cold soldered onto the Relay contacts. I take a needle nose pliers and torque each wire a little and resolder the ones that peel off sometimes just fall off,they look good at first glance but do not conduct electric current. Would not believe it if I did not see it myself.[10:50] That nylon gear does not do well with oil keep away. The metal joints will benefit seen many units seized.

The match number is covered to keep people from cheating, If at the end of the game I can see the match number and my score are equal at the same time. I can let the ball drain and match the number to my score and now I get a Free game. If you can not see the number tell the game ends you can not drain on purpose if your score and much number are equal

Hi Ron! Point of curiosity - As a troubleshooting practice, it seems to me that the process of elimination can be beneficial when trying to isolate a problem. Now, in this instance, you still are going to go through the entire machine, cleaning all the relays, and such, but you also want to find whatever is causing the score motor to run. The playfield was removed, and the score motor still runs, so it's not anything on the playfield. (Or so we thought... Cue spooky music...) You cleaned the mech board, so it's not that. You disconnected the head, and the problem went away... Progress! (Or is it? More spooky music...) Now, my question is this; There are three Jones plugs connecting the head to the mech board. If you had connected the Jones plugs one at a time, and powered up the machine, could that have narrowed down the section that was causing the score motor to run? (Of course, in this instance, it turned out to be more complicated than that, but generally speaking, is my logic flawed?) Also... I find it interesting that this machine features not one, but two 'dummy' score reels. This helps advance my theory of 'pinball point inflation' (The phenomenon that seems to cause pinball point values to increase over time from machine, to machine... Score reels aren't cheap... Segmented displays are cheaper... DMDs/LCDs are cheaper still)
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade 3 жыл бұрын
That should work just fine like you said... unfortunately it ended up being extra stuff on this one though.... On the score reels you have to remember too that they also need a points relay for each set of reels, so if they add a 10's reel (instead of the dummy reel) they have to add a 10 point relay.... and the switches that make the 10 point relay pull in, etc.

Those schematics seem quite confusing to someone who's not familiar with them. The logic is simple enough, I guess, but there are so many places to look, and there are so many components. Fascinating machines, but a bit of a nightmare to service considering how sensitive the parts are.
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade 3 жыл бұрын
They’re not that sensitive it’s just nobody’s worked on it in years, I think it has the original rubbers on it!

Relatively simple circuit But repeated many times. Pawing over the wiring diagram could tell you *relay xx* is not working. Now finding relay xx becomes the challenge. Just clean / check each relay/contact will get you there....where you needed be in the first place....
