All-Star caliber? Yes. Future HoF? Yes. OVERRATED? Yes. Overrated does not mean he sucks. However, I think that Jimmy Butler has become the most overrated star in the NBA. I explain in this video why I feel this way. Again, I do not think he is a BAD PLAYER. Do you agree with me?

Nope. He’s not overrated at all. In fact he deserves it. He clearly is the alpha dog in the team and thanks to him, the heat culture is alive. They have also been somewhat plagued with injuries from key players like buttler and herro and made some minor adjustments in their roster and is perhaps experimenting stuff. They literally had absolutely zero business winning the conference finals last year as the 8th seed but they still did. Everyone forgot about miami last year until they won. Yes they lost, but it was from a crazy strong denver team. He is the michael jordan type player, but even players like him is no longer enough to win titles today. Maybe in the past. But right now, the NbA is just so loaded with new talent weve never seen before.

The fact that Jimmy regularly beats and outplays guys who are supposedly in a higher tier than him in the playoffs, with lesser teams, isn’t something that should be criticized more than the fact that the supposedly “better” players are losing to him regularly.

What the heck has Jayson Tatum done in the playoffs compared to Jimmy he has nowhere near as many All-Star selections as Jimmy Butler. He took the Celtics to the finals ones. Jimmy has done it twice with undrafted players and Jason has had Jaylen Brown Jrue holiday Al horford Jimmy only has Bam and all the other players are role players he single-handedly took down the number one seed last season with a clutch 56 points in game 4 was like The Walking Dead came back and took down the Knicks and your Celtics so the fact that you’re saying he’s overrated is quite bold coming from a Celtics fan

You make some reasonable points. Though, I don't agree that Jimmy Butler is overhyped. The discourse has always been that he's good enough to be the #2 on a championship team--that sentiment was not lost in the "Playoff Jimmy" hype--even the Heat were looking to sign Dame, b/c they knew they were just 1-2 pieces away. And this is something I'd assume you agree with since you said he's more of a 1b. Jimmy Butler is a hustle player that can get a team 25pts/night and from time to time explode for 40pts. He did underperform in the finals, but consider that they ran through pretty much the toughest road to the finals in years and Jimmy carried them for many of those games dropping insane numbers (so the "under-performance" was really just him coming back down to earth, which is reasonable when you carried a team through 3 rounds defying the odds). By the time they got to the playoffs they were clearly out-matched and Jimmy was visibly gassed. Even if Jimmy played better they probably still would have lost that series. I'm moreso surprised they didn't get swept and happened to keep most of the games to within 10pts. Also, you're diminishing the context of how that playoffs run went. Jimmy was 33yrs/old carrying a team of minimum contract guys, journeymen, and G-League players and they somehow made it to the finals. That's insane--regardless of what we think of Boston's choke job. They went through the Bucks, the Knicks, and Boston to get to that finals. There's nothing anyone can tell me to convince me that this wasn't an insane run. Jimmy's career, when we look back on it, will be one where people will say he was actually underrated as a #2 (probably one of the best #2 options in this generation--so good in fact that he practically nearly reached the levels of a #1), b/c every team he played on got better when he got there and usually got worse after he left. The problem with Jimmy was that coaches/lockerooms didn't love him, so he never lasted long. He was always willing to be a #2--as long as he was paid for his value. Had Jimmy remained in Philly or Minnesota, would they have won a ring by now? That's the real question. Remember that Philly essentially traded Jimmy away in favor of Ben Simmons... let that sink in. Minnesota got rid of him b/c of the friction with Kat and Wiggins. Wiggins is gone and looks like a shell of himself, and Kat is starting to show up in the trade rumor mill. If that team doesn't win this year, Kat is probably gone. He's not underrated. He's rated just about right. I do agree with you though that there's no way this heat team this year is beating that celtics team... That celtics team is so good that it's Championship or bust for them at this point--if you can't win with that squad, it's time to break it up. You do have to give Jimy more credit though--it's not just a Spoelstra thing. He was also really good on the 76ers and in Minnesota, and even the Bulls. This is why he's called playoffs Jimmy--b/c he's been doing it for a minute now. But consider this--the problem is that Jimmy's career is essentially over now. He's going to be like 35 next season, so that's more material to this discussion of where he can rank on a championship roster. Starting next season you probably can't even win with him being your #2 best player, b/c the game is just too fast these days and that decline hits hard after 35 years old man. The Heat, knowing this, were pushing to get Dame this year, b/c they know that Jimmy has like 1-2 good seasons left in him where he can be the #2 on a championship roster. That Dame contract is a grenade, but they wouldn't have cared since they were trying to maximize Jimmy's contract, which will be a grenade after next season as well.

Very delusional guy, put Tatum in that current Heat team and he wont make them be in the playoffs. Jimmy took a team to the finals with rookies like Herro and Duncan Robinson and a very limited type of player in Bam, Jimmy is the real deal, and I prefer someone steps up big in the playoffs than someone who does it in the regular season. Do you really think Jimmy cant score 30 points a game in the regular season, he can easily do it, but he decides not to, because his game is not shooting threes which doesnt take much effort honestly, his game is bullying people and going inside and scoring and posting up, which takes a big toll on your body. If he doesnt win that dont mean he is overrated, look at the teams he played on, look at the players he had in all his career. I think if he stayed in philly, he would had won, and got an extremely lucky bounce for the raptors to win, or else sixers would had won the whole thing. Jimmy is the real deal hands down, he is a player that doesnt play for stats or numbers, he makes winning plays and he only cares about winning

Lets be honest Jimmy has never had big help like those players. Tatum should be swimming in rings by now. Dbook too. Trae is just giving the other team free points with his defense. Bro are you ok? Jimmy is literally one of the greatest players of all time. And I dont mean that from a career stand point but from how much he squeezed out out of his capabilites. He wasnt gifted with insane height, athleticism or shooting skill, but he worked his a ss off to become an nba player. HE literally is the most mentally strong and tough player in the league. The guy with the most will. Its insane what he was able to pull off with a mid team in the last years. INSANE. He went to NBA finals time after time again, beating absolutely insane super teams. How did he do it? Leadership, will and insane determination. he is not scared of the big moment. He wants it. Thats why he drops 40, 50+ in the playoffs when other superstars drop 10 and underperform. Thats why he is able to will his miami team to beat the bucks and the celtics. In my opinion what he does is 10X more impressive that what Lebron or any other superstar did except for steph curry. He is defying odds.

To say he is overrated, you must determine where he is rated amongst NBA players and what results he has yielded from the NBA. In his last four years, he's made it to two finals as the leading scorer as a 5 or 8 seed, a conference finals run as the one seed, wouldn't count that overrated. The one year they were bounced out the first round, it was to the champ bucks as a six seed, no one would think Jimmy is gonna outplay Giannis. Just because people say he's alpha doesn't equal them saying he's better than the likes of Kyrie Tatum Brown Embiid Maxey etc. I think he is rated perfectly, but is like the Lakers - gets too much talk for the overall results yielded. If he had championship aspirations as a 5 and 8 seed lmk then fine but we all had the heat expected to be out the first orund, and most don't consider Jimmy an all star certain years(rightfully so)

This is actually true. Jimmy really ain't carrying the team. Yes, he has 1 or 2 amazing games, but it aint consistent. He is overrated, but he still a star. Not a superstar or all star level. He a good 3rd or 2nd option at best, and can definitely be much more consistent if he had a Superstar as a teammate like on the 76ers. Jimmy is a perfect sidekick for a superstar. He becomes overrated once he becomes a 1st or 2nd option. Murray is definitely better than Jimmy at this stage offensively, I cant say the same on defense.

Idk man. When I hear "playoffs Jimmy", I dont think 1A, I think a really really good 1B. Honestly, I didn't think anyone thinks he's 1A. For context, I consider Steph, Jokic , Luka, LeBron, KD, Giannis, Tatum etc as 1A, talent wise. Not Jimmy. In the playoffs, watch the matchups, does anyone really think Playoffs Jimmy's on their level (the 1A's). Did anyone think he was on Giannis level, or Jokic level, or even LeBron level in 2020? Shii some mfs were picking Randle over Jimmy in the playoffs last year. If people actually believed that "Playoff Jimmy" is a top 5 player last year, they shouldn't have thought Miami were underdogs vs the Knicks, at least. I think playoff Jimmy is just a focused Jimmy. Did anyone actually expect them to reach what they reached the past 4 or so years, no. Because no one really thinks that Playoffs Jimmy is a top 5 or something player in the NBA. They just know that Jimmy has another gear that he goes into in the playoffs , and they're excited to see that. So maybe to some people who think Playoff Jimmy is Prime LeBron 2.0, yeah, they overhype him. But to me, playoff Jimmy is Jimmy Butler finally playing all out. He's a great 1B type player, who sometimes can carry a team, but definitely lacks vs the top teams like Denver.
