I like the way he simply plays the notes and shows tabs with no explanation at all. So many instructional videos go: ok now place your index finger on the high string of the 3rd fret, next place the middle finger on the next string, 4th fret etc., etc. and on and on. It's so time consuming and laborious to learn that way. We can see and hear what Andy is doing and it makes it really fast and simple for me. If I miss something, I'll just rewind. Thanks Andy for a great lesson. I just subscribed too.

Not only an amzingly helpful video lesson for someone like myself (bought an electric guitar in late my 30's but didn't get far & it stayed in the cupboard until now I'm 48 and retrying as of 3 months ago) but I can't stop listening to you play this with such effortless soulful sound, You're playing is beautiful man. It's the blues style I like the best, slow n sleazy, ha! Thanks for giving us this gold for free. Cheers from Scotland.

Dust off that old guitar mate, put some fresh strings on it, and start again. You’ll realise a lot has changed since you 1st tried have changed. With technology, learning is easier than I was when I grew up playing. We all have what I assume is a crazy level of ups and downs in life right? For me, the guitar has always been there for me, no matter what I’m feeling. Anyway, don’t give up. If you want some tips along the way, just ask man, guitar community is big.

@@chaos4316 Thanks for the encouragement pal. Funny you mention strings because I just bought a set of 10's to put on my resurrected, humble old Jim Deacon strat to see if I get any improved tone. I just have to work up the guts to do the restring as I'm green to guitar maintenance and generally not very "handy" but like you said, the internet guitar community is here to help so I've watched some how-to vids & I'm more confident now. Glad to say since my original post I'm also paying up an excellent condition black Epiphone Les Paul that I scored a good deal on @ my local pawn shop so I'm about to get an upgrade. I'll still keep my old strat as well though of course. (possibly the signs of a collection beginning lol) All the best man.

After about two weeks I've been able to memorize this lick by watching this vid a billion times. Anybody have advice how to practice to make it actually sound good? Maybe my rythym sucks or no concept of timing? I dunno. Can't explain it... I just feel like when I play it, it just doesn't sound right even though I know I'm playing the notes correctly....I got the blues 💙
@elpeluk98092 жыл бұрын
I think what you mean. To sound good you need to put some sensitivity in the vibratos and bendings. Also controlling the tempo. To play like that you need to relax yourself and play without " thinking" too much and feel the music and the rythym. For that it is neccessary to know perfectly the song first. With some practice you will do it!!
@doublejoe74352 жыл бұрын
Slow it down. The settings 'cog' on the playbar has 'playback speed' settings, The nuances of the vibrato are easier to hear and are easier to play along with at the slower settings. Learn it throughly at 50% speed and speed it up graduatly as you progress. I was unaware the control existed but its helped immensely since I found it.

Thank you for this video, Andy. I'm getting ready to start playing after many years off, and I've always enjoyed listening to and playing the blues. This video is great in that there wasn't all of this talking going on, explaining every finger placement, every fret and the music theory behind it. I enjoy playing to enjoy my playing (if that makes sense), not worry about all of the music theory, major and minor notes and what you would most likely learn at music school. New subscriber (this is the first of your videos I've seen), looking forward to see what else you have for us! Thank you, again!

A lot of learning when it comes to musical instruments uses the "do it slower" method. Slow down the video to half speed, and try to follow it as long as you can. It might be one or two notes only - to begin with - but thats OK! Keep at it, and the let it rest. Go at it again the next day. Repeat... Learning stuff like this is a matter of repetition. Then some repetition.. Did I mention repetition?? When you've got a bar or two working, maybe copy the tabs onto a piece of paper. Now try to play it (maybe just the two bars) without following the video. Get another bar working. Repeat. Repeat. Only eventually increase the tempo. It is a very common mistake to increase the tempo too early, rather than getting things right at the slower speed first. Not even the most talented people can just grab a guitar for the first time and play along. It's all about doing the tedious repetitive procedure. But trust me, you can learn this! Find the joy of learning in many small steps rather than being frustrated when the attempt at a big jump does not work. The people you admire has all been beginners, and have all gone through this process.
