You are right, he is a designer, writer, and producer with many, many games. My point still stands though. Also this from Ted Price.... "The potential of the cloud for console developers is pretty large," he stated. "Over the next five or six years, it's one of those technologies that will change in meaning as we see more games come out and take innovative approach to the more and more offline processing that's available."

This guy is a fucking genius. He was in college taking two courses when he was fucking 16 years old at 17 he started working on videogames. This is a guy who spend it's holiday season researching the X86 technology and history to see if it was viable to a videogame console. Also you seem to forget the fact that Sony has some of the best engineers in the world working with him, he's not designing this console alone. He also speaks japanese, one of the reasons he was choosen as system arquitect.

"Mark Cerny is game programmer and nothing more" Thanks for making my point, since programmers are the ones who study the technologies used in order to make the magic happen. And still you're wrong, Mark Cerny worked on several hits for over 30 years now, not only as programmer but with several other functions and now for the 1st time he's a gamer director on a game. This man was one of the first to learn how to work with the complex arquitecture of the PS3, which is not easy job.

I can't wait to get my hands on the Dualshock 4 controller. It looks really slick and nice, and the fact that it's a little bigger or at least a little more Xbox-controller-like is very good. I don't mean the button layout, but the two things on the side of the controller that you hold in your hand. The DS4 seems to be as ergonomic as it gets. It looks very nice, just like the X1 controller. Unfotunately, I don't want the Xbox One. But the Xbone Juan controller looks really really awesome.
@AnotherComputer11 жыл бұрын
You see, that's the problem. Graphically, PS3 is superior to Xbox 360. Take for instance the Naughty Dog games (Uncharted, Last of Us), GT5 which runs at 1920x1080. The first party studios know how to break down the cell processor because this thing is damn powerful. Also, blu-ray disc gives them much more space. Problem is, it's like solving a puzzle and third party studios do not like solving puzzles.

Lost Addessey used 4 discs, but most of the biggest games used 3 discs, like Final Fantasy XIII, Mass Effect 2 was 2 disks, but I think that for the final part you had to swap the first disk in, Blue Dragon had 3 discs. L.A. Noire got up to 6 disks, but Rockstar managed to compress it in 3 discs. But yeah, answering your question Lost Oddessey was a 4 discs game.

The issue is how they approach it. Sony made a a machine that is primarily a gaming one, with entertainment features. Microsoft made a machine that is primarily an entertainment one, then added gaming features. The Issue, is that their installed fanbase are gamers, so this is rather backwards if they actually wanna sell more consoles.
@1998martucha11 жыл бұрын
Let's not forget that Sony actually owns the rights to Blu-Ray. And also let's not forget that (as Mark said), the PS4 is a gaming console. If you want some kind of entertainment center, then go get the Xbox One, but if you want the best gaming console and a legit entertainment platform, then PS4 is the right choice.

Sony didn't buy out Gaikai until July 2nd, 2012. They must have seen the document and then saw that Microsoft was going towards the cloud and they couldn't be left behind. The document was circulating on the Internet before that time. The document talks about Microsoft doing the same thing as Gaikai and using the cloud exactly in the same way, it was supposed to come out in 2015 in the document, but Microsoft moved it up and changed how the cloud would affect the XB1.

Better controller is not a valid argument because I can honestly say that I hate the mis-placed thumbsticks on the 360 controller and how bulky and heavy it is due to the battery. Also, better performance on mutliplatform does not exist. Yes, PS3 is harder to develop for because of the cell processor, but there isn't really any difference between the systems. The latest GTA V gameplay footage was on PS3. EA games, Ubisoft games....they look and play identical. Well, except Skyrim cause Bethesda.
@blackevil15811 жыл бұрын
I think he means the family sharing, no disc swapping and "Cloud Processing".
@lastmanustanding11 жыл бұрын
Finally someone is honest about cloud processing. When the Xbox guys talked about cloud precessing help rendering [Stars and the like], in order to legitimise the idea of an always online console, it was laughable. If you really want to do that, why not render everything in the cloud and stream it to the device. It's far less complicated and produces the same result, and that's what Gaikai does best. can't wait to see it up and running.
@SERGIOLEWIN199311 жыл бұрын
microsoft is not using the cloud for streaming game video, that requires higher internet bandwidth, microsoft is dividing hard complicated calculations on the cloud to do that work, so that the CPU is free with a lot of "horsepower" to use on gameplay and graphics, sony only have servers to 3d render full games to the console, their ps4 console is not made to offload calculation to the cloud that is three times hard to do with one CPU, the cloud server does with no problem
@Docwiz211 жыл бұрын
I believe the quote was 40 times the power of the 360. I am not going to get into specifics of if the quote is wrong or right. I do see the server space as a game changer in many ways and I think many people are going to be surprised. Microsoft can test this stuff and I believe that we will start to see some compelling titles using the server based technology by 2014. I believe there is substance here and not hype.

@Sku11King7711 жыл бұрын
Yes but it does not prove the Xbox one can't do it, just that sony can't. I always thought that the reason the cloud can help is that it can process the games engine so that resources are freed up for other tasks such as streaming, recording or performance increases. I think what he's trying to say is that the cloud cannot directly process graphics, but that does not stop it from processing everything else so that the console itself can increase the graphics or performance of the game.

Sony won't be able to offer anything like what Microsoft has because of many reasons. Microsoft is load balancing code between servers and the console, using the compression of their Z77 Move Engine, they can compress and uncompress data on the fly and inject it directly into the GPU's own memory. This means that a LOT less bandwidth will be taken up and a world can be very dynamic as 3D meshes are uncompressed in the back ground in hardware and injected directly into memory.
@TheDieHard77711 жыл бұрын
Well people don't like a sudden shift. It's best to opt for gradual change so people don't get the "forced" feeling. I'm sure people will warm up to the Xbox, but with your smartphone example, you want to add more rather than change more. Over time, the latter is perfectly applicable, but in the first few years, you have to show some love to the fanbase.
