Worth it for me. I've been wanting to play 4K60 games the whole generation without having to choose performance modes. PSSR is going to work with the existing library, the next 4-6 years are going to have dedicated PS5 only games and I want to play them at the highest level and I'm not buying the PS5 Pro at full price since I'm selling my PS5. But even if I wasn't selling my PS5 I'd still get the Pro, I've been saving for it.

THE WEEKEND IS HERE This might be a PS5 Pro price cope, but most people also don't realize how expensive 2 terabytes of SSD storage is, all by itself. If they dropped the PS5 Pro storage to 1 TB, I bet it would've been more like $600. That being said, it still wouldn't have the stand or disc drive.

Only because they decided on a very fast SSD. Even here in New Zealand a 2 TB SSD with a much slower speed is quite cheap and we pay a high premium for PC part compared to the US. I know from experience that you can still load games extremely fast with such SSDs.

In 2020 people were buying the launch PS5 for north of £1000 from scalpers due to stock and pandemic related issues. The pricing of the pro is not unrealistic, the 2TB SSD will add to the price and the architecture in the upgrades further adds to the cost. Adding the optional disc drive for a further cost is optional and saves Sony from producing 2 different models which makes perfect sense. The pro will sell but may be a slow start until we see some real world testing from reviewers for people sat on the edge to spend their money. There are suggestions from many to just buy a PC, they are not plug and play and take some tinkering to get games to run smoothly, I have a rig with a 4090 and all the hardware to balance it costing 5K just for the base and I still have to tinker with settings to get games to run perfectly. For me, it's a reasonable price for the pro, albeit the stand should be included, that would be my only gripe.

They don't have to make two models in the first place, and the main reason people want a Play Station in specific is because of their exclusive games so just buying a PC doesn't cut it. The drive should have been included, this PS5 PRO is what they promised the PS5 would be so you can't really claim this upgrade is worth it when they basically sold us a gimped version from the start just to sell us what they promised at a higher price.

Being able to play games in 4K (Dynamic I know), with 2-3X ray-tracing, increase graphical detail and fidelity ALL at 60 FPS ? To me, it's absolutely worth it ! If Sony didn't didn't leave out the stand and disc drive, I don't think the backlash would be half as what it is now. I've been saying from beginning of the rumors, "you want these features, you're going to have to pay." So I saw the $700 coming.

If you take a 7700 XT or 4070 and buy it new. Then, you have to buy a Mother board, CPU, 2TB SSD, WiFi 7 card, memory, heat sync/cooler, fans, power supply, case, dual sense 5, cables, key and mouse just to operate the thing. Yea.. good luck finding all that new for 700. Bunch of babbling babies. I agree it should come with a disc drive and stand but that’s still a very good value. You don’t see or know frame rate or resolution differences then stick to your base hardware. It’s not for you- ya big salty whiny babies. The Weekend is here! I build PC's, and have to do a lot of research on parts. I don't get the whining about it not having a dvd drive. Very few PC's and even laptops, are leaving those off. Yes, physical games are nice, but, even consoles are moving to digital. Remember the freak out when HFW didn't have an actual disk in the collectors set? Also funny to me is that the people with $700 computers aren't the ones saying "My PC can play it better than a console!" it is the guys with $2000-$5000+ PC's saying it. Of course it can, then you will complain it is a buggy mess when it first releases.

The ps5 pro might worth it for people who dont already own one and want a great console. But for people who already own a ps5, just doesn't seem worth it to spend another $800 for sharper graphics and other features when the ps5 is already a good and capable console. Sure, an equivalent PC would cost more. But once you factor in not having to pay for online and cheaper games due to better sales and better permanent price drops, PC will in the long run actually be cheaper than PS5 Pro. The base PS5 is still cheaper in the long run than PC but not the Pro. You also don't really need to get a 2 TB SSD if you don't want to or as fast an SSD unless you are pedantic about matching PS5 Pro specs. You can save a lot in cost by on the SD and still get essentially the same performance. I know from experience that a *lot* of games load *extremely* fast on PC with much slower SSDs than the PS5 one. Faster CPUs and having a lot of RAM can do a lot to make up for the slower SSD. You can also save a lot by having wifi 6/5E and still get very good wifi. You can also save a lot by getting 5800X or 7800X and still have lot better CPU performance than on PS5 Pro, thus allowing you to *exceed* 60 FPS on CPU bottlenecked games unlike the PS5 Pro. So, you end up with a better experience that will eventually cost less due to lower ongoing costs.

I’m more of a casual gamer and there are some PC only games I enjoy, however I still play them on my TV with my Apple TV and Steam Link. If it's really as powerful as DF says, then that does change my views on it's price somewhat. Keep in mind parents will not want to spend $700 on a pro they will more than likely buy a reg ps5. Sell yours for lets say $350-375 add in a controller maybe a game that you don't care about and boom you could probably increase the price a smidge and then upgrade to the pro. Depends on what you mean by worth it. I think it's worth it in terms of components and a major factor people aren't calculating is the R&D cost for PSSR. If PSSR is close to DLSS then I would have to say that it is well worth it. People don't understand that developing that Ai probably cost hundreds of millions of dollars. That's going to be reflected in the cost but if the performance is there who really cares. $699 US dollars to UK pound is £532.26 at current currency exchange. £699 UK pound to US dollar is $917.49 So in the UK we’re getting screwed. In fact Sony could add the £99.99 disc drive for total of £632.25 and still make profit at £699

What the hell these people are selling on ebay is crazy seeing last i checked it was still at Walmart and if you added it to your cart buy searching a different way , amazon would have it to you by the 20th even though it was sold out

For me, performance modes have always looked better than the quality modes on ps5. I don't think I care about how better performance mode looks on ps5 pro compared to base ps5. I'll wait patiently till the ps6.

Yes it is worth it to me because I upgraded my base PS5 with a 2 TB hard drive. It's basically $50 for better performance for me. I had to stop playing final fantasy 16 and rebirth because the graphics were so choppy and smudgy I refuse to beat the game. And VR games are going to look better also so it's worth every penny. I have a 4080 super on my PC with a 7800 x3d 700 is nothing compared to but the price of building a good PC.

Definitely getting the Pro version. And yes i hava very expensive PC. $700 to $900 is nothing for a console that will literally last over 10yrs. I have an original PS2 from the year 2000 that still works perfectly. So... if a PS2 is 24yrs old and still working..... yeah. I've heard the "just buy a PC for 700 to 900 USD" and yeah, right is all i have to say. Waste of money on a PC that cheap, literally a waste of money. A WASTE!

Pet peeve of mines: NEVER buy day one. Games are unpatched upon release, you pay a premium to beta test. Also scalpers, disc drives are now above retail price; good luck bud, you'll need it.

the console market needs to evolve. Graphics and CPU wise or else developers will always be limited. I would say its worth the price and i'll get it. Still impressive what i'll be able to do for an under $1000 machine. I somehow feel this is a next step for sony for the playstation 6

I've NEVER been a Playstation die hard. Been an Xbox guy since 2002, Nintendo before that. My brother had the Playstation. It was cool but as time went on I became a die hard Xbox fan. I even bought a PC just to play Playstation exclusives. That, however wasnt for me and I will be getting the PS5 Pro👍

If you're only gaming, yea it's worth it. However, PC's are multifunctional and have much more to offer to everyone. Graphics wise, the ps5 doesn't even compare to a 4060 with ryzen 5 7600. It depends on the user. For me, it's not worth it. I have a ps5 and a pc that can play 4k, so the pro isn't needed for me.

If Microsoft had not dropped the ball and retained about half the market share the standard PS5 disc version would have dropped to $399 by now, The digital PS5 Pro would have came out at $499 and $549 with a disc drive. This is what happens when there's no competition! Sony wants $810 for a PS5 Pro with a disc drive and a vertical stand!

I will be buying it,my main gaming system is pc so to me 700 for a full system isn’t an issue and it not having a drive no problem either all my PS library is digital anyway, also to me physical media is pointless because all games today are broken on release so you can guarantee a day one patch and months of patches to finish the game so all you will have is a broken game on a disk on the shelf

For Sony to price it so boldly it has to deliver something pretty substantial right? Maybe Sony are taking the under promise/over deliver strategy? I was always going to buy one regardless, but if it just ends up being 30% sharper, we are going to be seeing this in greatest fail compilations decades from now. Actually, the full update is not out now. Only select players in the US. My ps5 said an update was installed, but none of those features are there yet

Ps5 pro has same cpu so I'll wait to see if there is any fps increase on cpu limited games such as space marine 2 and dragon's dogma 2. Would have liked ps5p to support path tracing for games like alan wake 2 and cyberpunk but I guess path tracing is not ready for mainstream yet.

At least the base ps5 can hit 120fps on shooters. This upgrade seems to aimed at rpg games. I'm interested to see what the pro can do to games that can hit 120fps. Your getting a console for 700 , pc equivalent is possible but nearer to 1k in Look forward to reviews on the pro ,but again it seems like like it's being done for rpg games not fast fps games ,where frame rate is better than shadows and hair strands etc.

It's annoying that welcome hub isn't available in the UK yet, still got to wait a month or 2 according to the release notes. Yes, I am getting the PS5 Pro. Yes I would like it to be cheaper, but nor am I blow hard dumbass. My 12th Gen i5, 32GB, 3060 RTX, with 1TB m2 gen4 storage, and 1TB std SSD around 2 years ago that cost £1200. The pro graphics will be better than this has faster storage than part of my desktop storage but yet cost £500 less. Even if the price of my desktop was 20% less, (unlikely since it's using high quality parts) then it would still be £260 more expensive for an inferior gaming experience. On top of that I work in software dev, so I'm sitting at a PC all day the last thing I want to do is sit at one when relaxing with a game. Not to mention all PS5 games use the dual sense controller, which IMHO, adds a lot of immersion into a game.

To be honest, the price isn’t the problem. It’s the disc drive and stand in my eyes as a problem and until they match any physical copy, you have with credit in the PlayStation store then digital only is a problem now when they make it so that you can take a picture of the SKU of a purchased PlayStation case scan it into PSN and they count that you own the game. Yeah we can talk about digital, but until that type of thing happens, as long as you still sell physical copies of games, there needs to be a physical option once again, the are penalizing PlayStation owners who have given them business over the years. And without a showcase showing new games, it’s basically saying that look we’re releasing a new system. We’ve decided since the majority of people by digital would not going to have it have a diss drive, but it’s main claim to fame is it’s going to play past titles more fluidly. Also it can also do that to PlayStation 4 games granted if you didn’t buy them digitally, then you’re gonna have to buy this new accessory that’s $80 it’s called the disc drive.

For all the people who keep defending these consoles vs PCs, and claiming that the price is worth it because it is still cheaper than a similarly built performance PC: 1- The average household already have a PC, because they are used for multiple purposes, so a PC is now considered as basic as owning a television. 2- The main reason consoles were a viable choice for gamers was the pricepoint. 3- Even if you spend double the cost of a PS5 Pro, you would still be ahead because PCs are used for multiple purposes, and often shared by everyone in a household. It's just plain smarter to spend 2K on a decent PC that will easily outperform any console, and is basically a necessity, where a gaming console is NOT. I don't know ANYONE who owns a console, but doesn't own a PC. So in conclusion, the average person already has a PC, which makes the added purchase of a $700 console ludicrous. I honestly don't think most people are even factoring this stuff into the equation when they debate this topic. Even if you have to spend extra money to upgrade a pc you already own, it just make more sense.
