Steam OS is the future of Linux distributions. It's the missing piece for Linux adoption all this time. When new people want to try Linux (me), they're instantly overwhelmed by questions like : What is Linux ? Is it the magic that bridges hardware and software called a kernel ? What is a Linux distro ? What is a desktop environment ? Which one should I install out of these 100s of options ? All this confusion gatekeeps many people from experiencing the greatness of Linux and FLOSS. With Steam OS, at least in my opinion, it streamlines the experience and learning curve. Just install Steam OS and join the FLOSS community. I would not be surprised if starting soon, new people would just naturally choose what OS they would install on their PCs. Not just listening to Microsoft. Thus this would truly make "PC" stand for "Personal Computer" again.

I played video games with my mother today using emulation. She is seventy-two years old. I hooked up Wiimotes for Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, Price is Right, and bowling. I could use two small candles for infra-red, but I have the USB Wiimote sensor I purchased online. Besides Dolphin, we played the PS3 version of Wheel of Fortune on RPCS3, which is similar to the Wii version, but a little bit better. I like the PS3 version more. I do have the 2022 Switch NSP, but it does NOT have Pat Sajak or Vanna White, so I dont really care much for the Switch version at first. Maybe I'll try it again later. My mother and I played the Wii and PS3 versions for a couple hours. We never played that long before. We haven't played since Covid. I treasure these moments I have left with my mother.

Consoles nowdays are just pcs with no exclusives, worse performance and even price, in the long run you loose money while paying for online and ultra overpriced games( I'm not even accounting for privacy, which i condone but don't do because games are so cheap i don't even bother pirating). Only Nintendo has exclusives and physical media, i struggle to see Xbox survive, PlayStation might for longer, their closed ecosystems are what kills them. Making an Xbox handheld won't cut It as there are Windows and Linux ones. Now the data is an exageration but the idea is indeed right. The only thing holding back pcs was Windows which unless you have been living under a rock will for sure overtake windows, also It will allow for more hardware variations and cover those segments that consoles would've ex (steam deck). That's Just my opinion.

​@ibelieveinjesusinmyspareti2861 It's funny you mentioned this, because I was thinking of a console back in 2012, but it would be used more than gaming, which would not only include massive backwards compatibility with 20+ consoles and controllers/accessories, but also have a second HDD/SSD for installing a computer operating system which you can install say a Mac, Windows, or Linux Operating System, combine that with how you wish to customize your gaming console through an online order, and you can easily take apart the console and convert it into a sports equipment item like a soccer/football, baseball, baseball bat, or even use the console as a computer for DJ, Audio, Video, and Office productions, I envisioned consoles being similar to portable, more personalized computers that doesn't have to resort being flat boxes and more like shapes and sizes rather than a pre-made console. Of course, pre-made consoles can be made, but the "MJM" console I made would last a good 20-30 years in production, with the only upgrades being to gut out the motherboards and parts inside the machine in favor of free upgrade to the console. Again, just something to consider that I valued longevity over short term profit considering I don't really care if stockholders want to make money in the short term, it's just that the finance people need to take precautions when it comes to how much it can make and absolutely keep expectations in check. Sadly it never came to fruition, but it's just that for me having a console that can also be a second computer in your household, that's also portable and has multiple inputs and outputs for livestreaming and hooking up old hardware you already have lying around in your house would make it absolutely convenient for those on a very tight budget or who can't afford the console. Heck, I would even throw in two more consoles for free with the full price purchase of the console if you ask me.

I feel like Sony tried with the PSP and they couldn’t compete with Nintendo. By the time the vita rolled around they pretty much gave up because the PS4 took off. Kind of made sense for them to focus all their attention on the market that was making them the most money. Well, considering smartphones in 2008 introduced many people to mobile gaming, I'm not surprised many people prefer to play games on the go than at home. For me, while I did do that sometimes, often I would bring my music with me since listening to music was the number one thing I would bring the most, especially good old fashion Music Compact Discs back in the day. Then in 2009 I was given the Zune 32GB Red MP3 Player from my oldest brother, whom then got himself a Zune HD, and then my own laptop and go from there. So now, wherever I go, I bring my laptop with me when it comes to gaming and music.

That first Catly trailer was 100% AI generated. The physics are all really weird and the human characters have more than 5 fingers on their hands. Everything looked very cohesive which is one obvious sign of AI video but you can typically negate this if you train the AI off of a very specific set of videos or in this case, gameplay that had the same few cats in it.

The second thing you can tell with AI/Generated Media is if the person had a video/artwork project on their computer (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, GIMP, Serif Affinity, etc.) versus the ones who don't have projects on their computer. It's just as bad as terribly made, DVD Scamming/Ripoff/Knockoff movies and tv shows for young children and grandmothers who can't tell the difference between the more popular film versus the ripoff/bootleg media you end up getting.

There is always room for 3 successful consoles. Heck, during the 7th generation, we had 5 in the DS. PSP, Xbox 360, Wii and PS3, all while the PS2 got tons of support and good sales while the 3DS came early and struggled (but rebounded fine). All of those consoles did great business!

Switch 2 conversely makes it clear it's a different and new console. Switch 2 is the best name they can give it. They take advantage of the existing branding while making it clear it's a new console. There's no other name they can give it that will make parents buy more of the new console for their kids.

03:45 You can do the same comparison with the original 1989 Game Boy with the 1995 failed "Virtual Boy" product. 09:20 The thing is Mr. Sujano, if this company ever counted for the amount of hours I've played RCT2 Triple Thrill Pack back on the original CD-ROM release in 2002, that number nowadays would be in the tens of thousands of hours I've played that game, with multiple saves and track designs that I sadly lost this year. Thankfully part of my HDD backup included Map/Park files and save files for my 12 theme parks with the coasters in tact that I can re-save if needed to. Palworld this year is definitely a game I have played the most this year, 7 Days To Die I last played it much back in January/February 2022, and then with mods. COD Black Ops 1 is definitely one of those games that I love to play and that game, especially with the zombies mode, I would have had about 3,000+ hours if I played it on Steam back in the early to mid 2010s. But at that time controller support for some controllers outside of Xbox 360/Xbox One (Xbox 3) controllers would not work very well. So given the fact I didn't dive into mods until March/April 2020 just to change things up, after playing many of the same games without mods for 20 years straight since 2000/1999 it goes to show mods tend to make the game fun, but also I have always been a casual person since, you know, so many games are just so difficult I end up struggling or not being able to beat the game, or I play the game to a certain point that I don't come back to it for a very, Very long time. 11:47 Whoops, had to re-read that part again since something got into your eyes a bit.

I would love for valve to implement a feature in steam launcher to scan all my library (800+ games) and give me a report (preferably in a table format) of which game is playable in SteamOS and / or Steam Deck. Currently, seeing compatibility one game at a time is not enough. This could help me decide if I will install SteamOS as 2nd dual boot system.

With the way things appear to be heading, I wouldn't be surprised if Valve takes a substantial chunk of the console space with the Steam Deck. I don't think people have realised just quite what Valve have done with SteamOS and the Deck, and quite the threat to the console space they are right now. The fact that they're looking to support other devices with the OS indicates to me that they know there's more demand in the market than they can realistically meet with the Deck alone. It'll also be interesting to see how these new SteamOS devices are priced; most console manufacturers - at least for the first few years - take a hit on the console and then earn it back in game sales, but what replaces that when the sales are all through SteamOS? Will Valve give the manufacturer a cut of the sales to subsidise device costs? Or will they keep it all, forcing manufacturers to mark up their devices? If Valve in any way took the former route with the Deck, they'll realistically have to offer it to other manufacturers as well in order to avoid some nasty lawsuits. In any case, I'm fairly confident that this current console generation will be the last like it; as it is, it's really already an echo of the greatness of prior generations. The times, they are a changin'...

I actually requested awhile back in a Lenovo survey (I have a Legion laptop) for them to have a Steam OS variant of the Lenovo Legion Go. You're welcome ya'll 😂 I did predict that they may be the company to do this especially considering their history of their Thinkpad line-up being very Linux-friendly. Good job Lenovo 👏 now I only hope they will improve on their driver support for both the Steam OS and Windows 11 versions, since I know this has been their main weak point. I think Valve will help with this on the Steam OS side at least.

Microsoft don't have focus on consoles anymore, because there isn't money in it. Sony started with PC ports 5 years ago, because there isn't enough money on consoles. The poor sales of PS5 games is why Sony use PC to recover lost money.

I don't own any of the current gen consoles but from my perspective Microsoft doesn't even want to be in the console market anymore as their are no exclusives and they care more about getting everyone to purchase their gamepass so imo It's going to be Sony and Nintendo and then Microsoft is just going to focus on their gamepass and turning any device into an Xbox through cloud gaming or some garbage like that. I use cloud gaming for Fortnite with Amazon Luna and it's alright when it works but when it doesn't cloud gaming sucks I'd rather just play on my PC with worse graphic settings than deal with the cloud streaming.

At this point I'm in doubt about "next gen" at all; Sony & MS don't have much exclusives to talk about anymore, everything is heading to PC as well; Switch was disappointing in technical regards after having it's lifespan, Nintendo lately tries to mask that with unpopular legal actions; all it takes at this point is for x86 handhelds to further come down in price as they already are "hybrid consoles" and feature a more rounded OS like Bazzite + better battery life. If I was to "predict" anything it would be Valve making a big announcement in the first half of 2025 and about 10 companies following suit

FLUFF! This DFC place seems an industry troll. Nintendo has never needed to sell that many units to be successful, MS is only concerned with market share and they can get that by porting all their stuff to PC and whatever else will accept their gamepass bs, not to mention yeah it completely ignores PC as an element where even Sony is porting stuff to it. I still can't get behind any handheld with asymmetric sticks, so no I doubt I'll ever buy a Legion even with Linux. Would I put Steam OS on my PC? Maybe, if I can use my Nvidia GPUs. 53 games in my steam replay, 52% on windows, 47% on steamdeck, and 2% on my new Linux PC only because I'm still getting used to the machine.

I think by "qualify" you mean by "anti cheat kernel" Which, is highly understandable that they get kernel banned. Although, you can always dual boot on steam deck, LCD or OLED, and any PCs/Laptops for native Windows or to have native Linux as a second option, that is, if you brought those online multiplayer games that cannot be played by Linux in general.

Xbox is clearly on it's way out. Which is a shame, they were my primary ever since SEGA died. If "this is an Xbox" isn't the writing on the wall... (as if it wasn't clear before) They are dropping the traditional console, and going into full "service" based gaming.
