PlayStation Portal Remote Player releases today, letting you play PS5 games via Remote Play. Are you eagerly awaiting the arrival of PlayStation Portal? To get you set up even quicker on release day, Ash talks you through the process and explains all the new PlayStation Portal features.
Our PlayStation Portal guide explains how to set up the PS Portal, how to connect to PS5 via Remote Play and explains the interface and touchscreen functionality. Rather than a PlayStation portable, the PlayStation Portal is a streaming device - it connects to PS5 via your Wi-Fi router and uses Remote Play to stream games to its eight inch screen. Games are not installed on the PS Portal, but run on the PS5 itself - so you do need a PS5 to use it!
We’ve been able to test PlayStation Portal gameplay across a variety of games and have enjoyed responsive gameplay on the eight inch LCD screen. With the DualSense controllers attached PlayStation Portal has the same immersive haptics and adaptive triggers you’d expect from your PS5 games. The main difference is the way touchpad features are mapped to the Portal’s touchscreen, as demonstrated in Astro’s Playroom.

A lot of people asking if you can use PlayStation Portal outside of home Wi-Fi. While your home Wi-Fi network represents a great option to use PlayStation Portal because you have control over the quality of your own home Wi-Fi, it is not required. PlayStation Portal can also be played wherever you have access to broadband internet Wi-Fi with at least 5Mbps for use. For a better play experience, a high-speed connection of at least 15Mbps is recommended. Hope that helps!

Hello, I have problems pairing my new PS Explore with my PS Portal through PS LINK... Since 1 follow the steps, I press the ps link button on the PS explore charging station for 8 seconds... Then I press to the ps link button on the PS portal to find and pair it and NOTHING happens! I have reset the two devices and tried turning the PS Portal off and on as users tell me in forums that the same thing has happened to them but it is impossible to pair the PS Explore with my PS Portal... have already tried the PS Explore on my PS5 with the USB adapter and it works perfectly... And also via Bluetooth with my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Smartphone and they also work perfectly.. But with PS Portal it's impossible, and you've created that PS link technology... And it doesn't pair. Aid. I have tried to contact PlayStation experts via chat and it is impossible and the customer service number does not work. Please I need a solution or know why it doesn't work.. And if it will be solved with a software update that changes the pairing system in ps portal so that it is more visual, and not hitting a button and waiting for it to find and pair alone... Because if t doesn't work it's very frustrating. Please help

For anyone having latency or connection issues - taking the HDMI cable out of your TV that is connected to the PS5 improves performance as the PS5 is no longer processing sending a signal to your TV

Guessing on an airplane one could still probably use it to game, so airplane mode is there as a foresight if one were to use it for that situation but needs that feature in order to comply with the rules of electronic devices on planes

I had a blast with mine ... i played COD MW3 & Battlefield 2042 with no lag 20 to 30 kills a round ( not great but not bad ) ... " Set your ps5 at 1080p and cut off hdr , vrr , and turn off 120hrzt after that everything is gucci after that 💯. Many are getting lags because your ps5 settings don't match your portal.

This is not true and Sony would tell you to do this if so. It defaults to 1080p/60hz the portal itself when used.

I’ve been wanting one of these since it released but I was put off because I was worried about he input lag. I’ve been using my switch but I just can’t get used to the form factor and find it uncomfortable and fiddly to use. I’ve finally given in and bought a PS Portal and I’m so pleased I did. This is just perfect. PlayStation has always had the best controllers for me personally and this is a joy to use 🙏🎮

I just got my PlayStation Portal and I'm impressed! I have several handhelds (6 in total) from various manufacturers including the Playstation Vita. Love the ergos, feels great in the hand and the size of the screen is perfect. This will be my preferred device for the foreseeable future. Do you have any plans in the future for streaming games on the Portal? This seems to be the only thing missing from a perfect device.

Yep, you can, but keep in mind you need to have a decent WiFi connection and that the experience when playing with the Portal via the internet (not on the same network) isn't really flawless even with the best internet speeds

Very important question here, if you want to take the remote player with you out of the house and use it with your own wireless hotspot. Does your PS5 need to be on before you can play games or can the remote player turn on the PS5? I read someone's review on Amazon and he says he calls his wife and tells her to turn the PS5 on then he plays his games at work. I want to make sure I don't need to have someone turn on my PS5 to use the remote player when I take it out with me.

How is the video quality for you all on the PS Portal screen? I've found ONE video that talks about image degredation due to streaming. But I don't know if I trust the guy because I haven't seen that opinion universally. And while the guy has 5.6 mil subs, that doesn't give him automatic authority.

because it's for a specific need, it's not a portable video game system, it's simply a ps5 streaming device. If that doesn't appeal to you that's fine, it's not for you. But there's some people who have that need, for example, sharing their TV with others

Mate, it's effectively just a controller with a screen... It's an accessory!! You either have a use for it or you don't!! I wish folks would keep it in context and review this on what it is - NOT WHAT THEY THINK IT SHOULD BE...

@@WayneCatlin I understand it’s only for a certain type of players in certain situations. It’s just that seeing what Sony CAN MAKE with for exempel PSP and VITA, that this device could be so much more then what it is now.. But maybe I’m just a bit salty..
