You do not need a ps5 to set it up at all, only to use remote play. The option is still there regardless if you own a ps5 or not but you will need premium subscription. Sad thing is though it's still not good enough thw performance isn't amazing

Everyone says that with the update not only cloud streaming was added but also the stuttering etc. from the former remote (local) play was solved. I wonder why local remote play didn't get better for you? :(

i picked one up friday and worked A1 for me so Far yo. happy i can play what ever games on my ps5 anywhere long as i am connected too wifi or hotspot. didnt take me long too figure out, is the Right trigger spose too have that much ofa kick back ?

Yeah, it’s controlled by magnets. There should be a way to disable it or modify it, but I’m not sure

I was just about to sell my Portal because I also have a Steam Deck and Chiaki4Deck performed much better. It was like playing natively on the system. But since the update, local remote play works flawlessly. No more microstutters and it looks like native to me. Plus the larger, 16:9 screen and DualSense make it the perfect PS5 companion. I have no intention of upgrading PS+ for cloud streaming. I'm thoroughly happy just playing my purchased and PS+ Extra games through remote play. It's great now!

I kept hearing you say it’s only for at home but as long as you have Wi-Fi connection somewhere else that’s not home you’re good to go. And if you use spectrum, you are already sharing your service bandwidth with all of the spectrum customers in/ near your location, so at home is not gonna be such a great experienced either. You need a better internet network lol

The poor response time and blocky streaming quality changing during gameplay ruin this for me in terms of local streaming. Will have to try it on the full fat steaming. Update: tried it, both have pros and cons. With the console free streaming there are less stutters, but quality seems to drop more and audio cuts out more. With the console it stutters or “freezes” way more but the quality is generally higher for longer. Honestly still can’t find a good use case for it. It’s just bad enough in both cases I’d rather play on the actual console or steam deck or snything else.

Speaking on the LOCAL remote play from your PS5, it's a damn flawless experience now. The latency is low enough I've even played rhythm games on it. And while i play online games on it too, I Still wouldn't recommend competitive shooters. Mostly because streaming on remote play while playing online does add a bit more input delay. But games Rocket league or Fall Guys ect is great on Portal. Single player games are where it's at tho, it feels native a lot of the time. With only a handful of games not playing as well when in motion, usually foliage heavy titles... 😎👍
