I really think that a new Playstation Portable or "PSP3" should have both hand held and docking features in some form. I used my Vita 2000 about 33% vs the PSTV 66% of the time. *(But I also had a larger memory card in the PSTV) I was always frustrated in the fact that certain games were only playable on the handheld, and local multiplayer games could only be done on the PSTV. I wouldn't mind if "the dock" was my PS4. But given how expensive it would be to purchase one, especially if someone just traded it in for a PS5, that would keep people away from a new handheld. A Sony dock, for a PSP3 should be able to power on and stream PSNOW content without the PSP3 device plugged in, (heck it could be sold seporate with just that feature). It should have additinal hard drive space or an additinal Micro SD so that you could tell it to update, or download a game while you are away via remote play. It should also be able to wirelessly connect with the PSP3 for potential 2nd screen multiplayer. *(and potential 2 screen game content when playing at home, or compatible cell phone on the go.) But that's all a pipe dream anyway.

The games are excellent, and eventhough theres not much coming out now, there are a lot of great things in the works. The device itself was on point in my opinion. It had great hardware and outstanding (and really revolutionary at the time) features. However it severely lacked support especially from Sony itself. That in combination with the smartphone hype at the time really made the system flop. It's sad because it had great potentional and i wish Sony would retry entering the handheld gaming market...

@@NickRobbins82 Consoles having security issues is not a negative for the end user. On the contrary, it's usually a net positive, so long as you hack it. Security issues are a gateway to unlocking arbitrary blocks set by the manufacturer. They can be used to put custom OSes on the device (usually Linux), load custom programs (like ports of games or utilities), or piracy if you're so inclined. For the Vita specifically, every firmware is hackable and people have made it so that you can use a plain microSD instead of the dumb proprietary card. All you need is a cheap game card to microSD adapter and to write a few lines in a config file. If you're lucky and have a 3G model, you can actually replace the 3G daughterboard with a board that takes microSD and set up the config file accordingly.

When the Vita launched I was so stoked {period} when I finally got when I was so blown away by how just revolutionary it seemed to have such a at the time powerful handheld with a nice ergonomic form factor. It sure blew the DS AND the PSP out of the water in tes of performance, and I really wish it would have been successful. I'm a huge fan of handheld systems and as much as I would love to see you soon take another stab at it, I doubt they would. That being said, I'm really glad Nintendo came out with the switch because that is one amazing console, and when the Vita kind of died I was really sad because we no longer had a powerful portable option anymore until the switch came along.

They're not bad features but they were too overused for me, like uncharted is not great on the vita, but its pretty solid. If it were mainly just buttons and stuff maybe i'd like it a bit more. Later games used these to a much lesser degree which I appreciated but at that time the vita was kinda dying so it didn't really matter.

Honestly I'm fine with PSP, PSVITA, PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4. But I totally understand the incompaibliry of the PS3 and PS4, so you would most likely have to sacrifice one of them. But even a PS4 game disk check every 48 hours would be awesome for the ability to plunk the PS4 game data on a hand held unit to play off of. The video game industry could really use a lower cost development marketplace again. But ultimately Sony with their censorship isn't going to let that happen.

It would obviously require some optimization work from the devs but for example getting a 4K60fps game down to 1080p30fps with greatly reduced settings might be possible if the handheld was powerful enough. Maybe in 3 years technology will be there? After all Nintendo Switch despite being ridiculed as underpowered still got a good number of PS4 ports. So who knows what a beefier PS handheld could do

To be honest, I really love the design of PS Vita. It's glossy, shiny and easy to carry. What's lacking is the screen size because of the resolution 720p. If Sony increased the 1080p I would buy it. I have no regrets of buying ps vita. Besides, I have all the collection metal gear saga on my vita.

Plus sized iPhones have been 1080p (or greater) since the inception of the sub-brand, and I’d expect it to have a screen at least that big (5.5 inches or more). For example, sure the 720p display on the switch is fine for in general, but you can notice the lower resolution in certain areas, for example the sand on the beach in cheep-cheep beach springs to mind. Additionally, 1080p is the new standard, as KZbin no longer considers 720p “HD”, and 720p displays are now basically exclusive to budget smartphones.

Basically at this point, the "Switch pro" is confirmed in one way or another since in the end of december Nintendo talked with the third party companies telling them "Start to be ready to develop games in 4K" meaning there will be either an upgrade for the switch or is talking about double up the gamble in cloud gaming.

Rn the minimum for genuine 4k is an rtx 2060 so I can't see anyway that nintendo could fit that kind of hardware in a switch And I've been hearing that they just want to put a better screen and better battery same nintendo strategies to milk the fans get the highest amount of revenues by paying the least amount of funds that's why I started to hate nintendo because while other companies are putting more powerful hardware and rely solely on the games for income they instead greedily wants to profit from both sides

I picked up a broken original Vita recently (Dead Battery, £7 to fix) and isn't it a sexy little beast. The screen is incredible, its comfortable in the hand and, once broken is an incredible emulation machine. Well worth scouring Ebay etc for machines that look in decent condition but are being sold as bust.

@@BBK113 Literally a dead battery. Whip the back off the case, remove the battery replace with a new one, charge it up and Bobs your dads brother. Just under £28 all in for the OLED version - Its a risk as you can never be sure but a lot of people seem uninterested in trying to fix stuff. Just be patient and only buy if it looks in decent condition to start with. If you're tempted i'd get one sooner rather than later as the prices are going up not down - partly due to a whole load of retro youtubers pointing out how good they are now that they can be modded easily.

I am a fairly big Vita fan and only got one about a year ago. There are so many AAA and unique titles to discover I always have something I want to play. Also, remoteplay works well with a decent enough WiFi connection! Just storage being so inaccessible is my main gripe.

YES!!! I AM LITERALLY THINKING ABOUT THIS EVERY DAY! I only have one game on the phone, the rest is on my 3ds and vita. I want the same form factor with r2/l2 triggers, bigger screen, sd cards, backwards compatibility up to even certain ps3 titles, and cheaper games. I guess it is a lot to ask for a 300$ console, but with those things done I am giving all my savings for the vita 2. Edit: I hope they are doing something. They didn’t add ps5 remote play so this may be the first sign.

THATS WHAT IVE BEEEN SAYING FOR THE LAST FEW DAYS!! With today tech we could play even ps3 games on the go, they could kinda play it safe by making it digital only, and instead of first of making vita exclusive games they could just release the ps3 store on the vita and make teams work on checking which games work and which don’t and if it doesn’t checking what corners they could cut to optimize it, which I believe that they won’t have to cut many. They could also get some games to have cross saves, now that would mainly work with indie games like hollow knight, but it would be dope if you played till a bench on your ps5 and when you have to leave you can pick up with your vita from that bench

@@hisstatus It can’t, it can play ports which had to do a lot to optimize them and even with all those cut corners it’s roughly playable, except Jack and Dax, that’s extremely unplayable. And on the god of war ports they had to use ps2 assets and their cutscenes, with even those cutscenes being lower res than their ps2 counterparts, oh and they barely hit 30fps

I don't condone unofficial emulation, but the GPD Win 3 can support PS3 emulation, quite well I may add. Sony may have created the best dedicated handheld of all time, but sadly, they treated it like garbage. From here on out, if you have the money, might want to reinvigorate your time into looking into handheld gaming PCs (such as the GPD Win 3).

Great video! I just wanted to point that for remote play you dont have to be connected to the same wifi connetion. You can take your Vita outside and play to your PS4. I remeber playing around 500 km far from my home.

Agreed on the memory cards. I defended them back then as an understandable decision due to attempting to fight piracy (which plagued the PSP before it), but they're definitely a bad idea. 64 GB Vita cards apparently have a high failure rate, and unfortunately I own one. If it used SD cards instead they could easily be replaced, but as it stands 64 GB Vita cards will never come down in price.

I still remember yo, I was in High School. Saved money for like 2 months just to buy a Vita. Good old times yo. My hands were shaking from excitement and it was all captured on video. It was my very first unboxing video and Vita was the reason I fall in love with unboxing videos in general. Man, I would do anything to go back to my time during High School. Love my vita I think sony would just need to double down on remakes , sly , crash , ratchet , jak , persona remake these games in the same from of the spyro and crash trilogy. I have to agree with most of this. I think Sony should release another handheld device with Remote Play and PS Now support front and center with functional L2/R2 and L3/R3 buttons to support the full back catalog of games. The Vita was a good system with some really good things that the video touched on. Although I do think that there was too much emphasis on pushing it to be like a tablet as well as a game console and it never lived up to that. The PSP was pushed to also play movies and music, but those didn't really take off because of the medium. The Vita could have at least had that with media streaming, but the options were very limited. Honestly for a long time I had hoped that Sony would create an ecosystem on Android with their phones and release a gaming tablet with their own PS Store for PS ports. I had an Xperia Play back in the day as well and it was sadly left to die in favor of the Vita that also didn't get the real support it needed. They tried to make a shared ecosystem between them, but it was so niche to just those 2 devices that nobody bothered to really release anything on it. Most apps were either lazy ports or just garbage with only a few higher-quality Square Enix mobile ports amid a lot of shovelware. If they had just allowed easy Android ports on both systems, I think it would have opened the doors up for a lot more quality apps of all sorts for both systems and they could have both thrived. Imagine it like the more expensive iPhone at the high end and the more affordable iPod Touch as the entry point. I still think doing something like that now with a less expensive mobile gaming device as the flagship would still make a lot of sense and perhaps bring some more traffic to Sony's mobile division. But they got to do it right and make it easy to bring content to it. Even opening up PS Now streaming would be worth it. Instead, Sony has made PS Now more restrictive to where it only works on PS4, PS5, and PC, and have opened up Remote Play to any modern phone. But those are still more expensive than a standalone handheld usually is, so lowering the point of entry to the PS environment still makes sense. With MS making xCloud so readily available, Sony really needs to try harder if they want people to use their services.
