This isn’t really that difficult of a question if you think about it logically. I’m of the opinion that Sony’s holding back their major announcements for a full-blown September showcase, at which time they will unveil the PS5 Pro with a huge slate first-party and second-party games coming to PS5 with PS5 Pro enhancements. It makes sense that Sony would want to capitalise on their biggest IP’s in order to sell PS5 Pro systems. I therefore wouldn’t be surprised if we get a longer term roadmap of what to expect as we see out the letter end of this generation, which by the time the PS5 Pro releases, will be between 3-4 years. Although I also think Sony will hold a few surprises back as well.

They've announced games that haven't released yet so the idea this this is all they have doesn't compute as the games haven't been canceled and are still getting updates on progress. We know they have more and that is what has people so upset about the fact that Sony is deliberately not showing these games. Personally I support them in not showing games for 2025 and beyond when they have games that are being released right now. They already have several games release on PS and packing a showcase with future titles only detracts from the games that are releasing now! A game like Astrobot or Lego Horizon can get lost in the shuffle of major announcements and focusing on what they have coming now instead of coming soon they allow their games to breathe rather than step on each other as Sony games tend to compete with each other vs other games or other platforms. A byproduct of MS not having games now to compete with Sony.

I think people forget or fail to realize just how huge zenimax or activision are. Microsoft pretty much own a HUGE portion of the market. Sony put a lot of effort into service games, which many didnt work out and thus wasted years of development. As a result of those two things this happened. A lack of games from sony, or the huge 3rd party games it would of gotten. It's pretty easy to figure out what happened.

Yeah Bloomberg just published a report saying this is actually the case. They’re not showing anything because they don’t have anything to show. They wasted so much time and money on the GaaS initiative in which they ended up canceling half of them and it also resulted in the closing of multiple Studios. It’s gonna be slim Pickens from their first party studios for the next couple years and the Pro isn’t going to help that. On that note, you’d think they would’ve learned from last gen and realized that refreshes aren’t very good. They’ll always be cpu limited and provide minimal benefits. They’ll sell some at the beginning but without supporting software to take advantage of what little benefits it will provide, sales for that will fall off faster then you can say PSVR2 and then they’re gonna be up against Microsoft’s rumored Zen 5/RDNA 4 machine two years later with a stacked roadmap and COD in their back pocket. Not a rosy outlook.

I will never understand the demand for Showcases and State of Plays. As if new game trailers didn't come out every single week. As if most people gave a hoot about what first party studios are working on. As if they knew the difference between a first party, second part, and third party studio. I simply can't get excited about a game coming out in 2026. I don't see why PlayStation bothers with Showcases when the feedback is always raging disappointment and anger that the female characters are either too attractive or not attractive enough.

That's not even mentioning Wukong which is going to be console exclusive for at least 6 months and any Xbox first party games that are getting ported.

I think the failure of a lot of projects has much to do with it. Like we would have gotten Last Of Us multiplayer at that State Of Play had it not been cancelled. Etc. But, add the alleged PS5 Pro showcase to that, both of those things in the same window compounds it. Personally, I already have a backlog from last year lol. So, I salute them for stopping production on games that would not be up to far, rather than pulling a Starfield / Hellblade and just putting it out. Horizon, Ghost, GOW Valhalla, FF7 set the bar VERY HIGH.

The only interesting thing about the showcase was Sonic X shadow, and for the state of play it was Monster Hunter and Astrobot. Astrobot especialy sticks out because it's not just hyper realistic generic graphics but a game with actual art style and looks fun to play. That is a game that should've been out within the first year or two of the PS5, and this is my point Sony's priorites are not where they need to be for me to believe they've got some big blow out of unique and fun looking games just sitting on the shelf. I could buy that with Nintendo absolutely but not Sony.

It's not complex, Sony have given their developers control of when they reveal and start marketing a game. Naughty Dog have said they won't reveal their next game until close to launch and the other Devs will probably be the same Their recent showcases and state of plays have all been focused on a 12 month window Xbox on the other hand are happy to reveal stuff 5 years away and have everyone working towards a mid year showcase

Genuine question - why does Sony need to do a Showcase “when expected”? (Not saying @ReforgeGaming implied this, just in general I’m putting it out there). Going to play Devil’s Advocate here and point out two things: 1. Covid kind of broke the showcase rhythm we had in the gaming industry for years. GK has brought it back to some normalcy with his mid-year and end-of-year shows, but breaking away from the cycle is totally fine. Nintendo did it almost 2 decades ago. 2. Following up on the first point but separately - Sony seems to have hit a good rhythm in their own right on announcing games, to showing progress of previously announced games, to accelerating marketing in year of release, to announcing a release date about 2-6 months prior to release. In establishing this (and just recently I think MS has realized this and is starting to imitate the strategy) they can essentially set their own rhythm for Showcases and State of Plays and whatever else they want to do. Like Nintendo, they have established their own method and broke away from the norm. Unlike Nintendo, they are staying in the high powered premium console market. And since they dominate right now, anything they do, others will have to follow. Can they do no wrong? No, they certainly can. They have earned the power though right now to almost redefine a lot of things, including that rhythm.

Cuz ya all used to complain when they announced them too early. Now they wait 6months before release. Blows my mind none of you don’t see this, it’s a masterwork from PlayStation. In pairing up with Lego which they already have. (There is a HZD tallneck Lego set out already) and now more to come I’m sure. Basically this Game is a Trojan Horse or gateway drug. They release Lego HFW on Switch, for when kids age out of Nintendo and start looking for a more mature system like an Xbox or PS, They will see or know that the original is on PS or PC, and may gently nudge them in that direction rather than say a Xbox. So far this year, PlayStation console exclusives have been FF VII Rebirth, hell divers 2, Ronin, and Stellar Blade. That is a very strong lineup. Also, for the second half of the year Playstion lucked into a console-timed exclusive with Black Myth without even paying for it. Sony is crushing it because most video game fans don't know the difference between first party, second party and 3rd party games. They just know PS is the only console they can play those games on.

What these bots fail to understand. Unlike xbox, Sony doesn't do early reveals. They show games close to date. We saw many examples of that. Essentially sony isn't trying to give us blue balls waiting unlike Xbox there is no dates. Its twice we saw the same games still no dates.

a LEGO version of Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart would probably be even better or up there with the Horizon Lego game. the characters look fun and the rift hopping would strongly support the LEGO stuff

We will apparently they have 3 games in development The first one is a new IPs it'll be a showcase for PS5 pro While TLOU Part 3 will be a cross gen game for PS5 & PS6 That's my bet
