Man, after what happened with 9 I was convinced a new entry was never gonna happen again. But they actually did it, they redid the whole thing and brought it back faithfully and looking CLEAN. I've been playing this franchise since DW4 and I can't even begin to express how hyped I am for this.

Based on the producer's tweets the mechanics call back a bunch to DW4 and 5... albeit with bits of the later titles and non-DW games. For example, parrying will be via Samurai Warriors 5's 'just in time' blocking instead of DW4/5/6's (and Wo Long's) parrying-while-blocking.

I’m with you. Like the previous comment said, I also noticed a lot of 4 and 5 mechanics (they also brought back duels which is sick!) My main concern is the combat, I need it to be like the older games combat wise, please do not make it like 9 was.

I just picked up 7 during a Steam sale on a whim and I'm loving it so far, I'm new to the DW series but this looks very cool. My only experience of a Musou game previously was Samurai Warriors 4 - it was probably my favourite PS4 title.

The big battles are cool and all, but can we go back to the older DW games where we aren't fancy lawnmowers and the enemy troops actually posed a threat? Went back to play DW3 recently and wow it was really refreshing having to pick my fights. This was a time when you can just run up to the enemy commander moment you drop into the game but was not advised since he and his bodyguards will actually destroy you. I really liked that i had to help my forces survive just so they would join me in the fight against the commander

Interestingly enough the producer has harkened back to DW3-DW5 -- probably not coincidentally, games he worked on around twenty years ago! -- in describing how this game differs from DW7-9... and the upcoming TGS demo does suggest that the enemies will pose some danger even though the character's been somewhat boosted (e.g. double-dodge is already unlocked).

I've been playing dynasty warriors for 23 years. Back in 2001 when DW3 came out, there was nothing else like it. They've kept the same formula for two decades and I don't even care. I love these games. A bit sad we can only play as a few characters though, let us play as our favorites! Zhao Tai, Ma Chao, Zhang Liao, Zhu Rong. One thing I miss from the old games is being able to play any officer at any battle. Yeah sure it doesn't make any sense, but who cares, in the trailer for most DW games they are riding horses up 90 degree walls and causing nuclear explosions with spears.
