Witcher 3 is one of the most immersive games I've ever played. Most of the time I would just turn off the minimap and roam the world, taking in all the beautiful architecture and landscape. The focus on landscape near the end of the video really resonated with me. Not to bash or disrespect other games, but often game worlds feel somewhat ''designed''. It's like the content was decided on first, and the world was formed around it later. Witcher 3 feels like the world already existed, and the devs just found a way to tell stories in it. So often we hear the words ''alive'', ''living, breathing'' and ''sprawling'' when open worlds are described, but Witcher 3 is really on another level in terms of world believability and immersion. It feels like there are no copy-paste assets, no copy-paste quests and no copy-paste NPC's. Even when I come across the 100th abandoned house in the world, my mind doesn't go ''oh there's that asset again'', I'm just as intrigued as ever, treating it as if it's completely unique. And often when you investigate there is actually something hand crafted to it, that sets it apart from all the other homes. Sometimes when a game gets really popular, other games try to copy it. But no game company has been able to copy The Witcher 3. Why? Because it's not the parts that make up the game that made it popular, but how polished, high quality and well crafted each of those parts is. The Witcher 3 doesn't have one particular thing going for it that makes it beloved. People love it because it's one of the most detailed, best written RPG's ever made. You can't copy quality without putting just as much effort into it as the original! Really great video Nathan, I'll never get tired of hearing you talk about this fantastic game!

I've been on KZbin since it's inception and watched it grow into an amazing resource of information. Quite incredible really. I was searching for videos on Mastercrafting my Griffin set (Hey... it's all about personal preference) and I stumbled upon your video "Why the Witcher 3 will always...(etc). For five years I have been trying to explain to my younger sister (48 y.o.) why a 'Grown Man' (53 y.o.) would engage in the same activity as her teenage son (13 y.o.) and, Lord knows, I have tried and tried and tried. The Witcher. Skyrim. God of War. Tombraider (the new ones). Nothing worked. Not a word got through. Nothing! Today is Christmas 2020 and she will not be able to escape me. I am going to sit her down and make her watch this video. Nathan, you have absolutely nailed it, Mate! Everything from world building and morally questionable decision-making to the joys of being a 'Kid with a Stick' (See George Carlin for more information on this particular truth). Congratulations. I think you've pointed out what 'Non-Gamers' just don't seem to get and you did it so eloquently. Search my profile. I NEVER comment on ANYTHING! (Too much of that stuff out there already) but I hope you continue to review well into the future and I will watch for your work. You mentioned the correlation between Art and Magic. I believe, personally, that the Art of Writing is to take something that is seemingly 'incomprehensible'. Explain it to an individual through lucid description and clear analogy that in no way condescends. Thus, the receiver leaves with a broader understanding of the world around them and a greater sense of the Adventure that is Life. You've done that in Spades, my friend. It won't change the world but it will explain to people why the Gaming industry is the largest sector of personal entertainment in the world today. Thankyou & Kudo's, dude. Merry Christmas.

the great thing about PlayStation Aceess, is that you get deep content like this from nathan (I never 100% got on with witcher 3, but it's still nice to hear someone who did explain why so eloquently). and then you get the sheer nonsense of watching the whole team play fall guys, all seemingly with a secret plan to wind rob up until he loses it. great stuff, and keep it coming team

Absolutely top notch essay, Nathan. Thank you! Playing the Witcher reinvigorated a connection to nature for me. For the first time I felt stories at myself for having grown up in a rural area but couldn't tell you the name of most of the plants or any of their users. I could tell my beggertrick blossom from my celandine, but not any real plants that grow outside my window. I want to connect with nature again.

That bit where he equates magic and computer programming - as the manipulation of symbols and signs that conjure something out of nothing ... Poetry ... that's always what I've thought; still can't get my head around how a bunch of 1s and 0s can be transformed into creating a completely new virtual world! It was amazing enough 48 years ago when you could play tennis on a TV with two rectangles and a square dot.

Thank you, Nate! This video deserves not just a like, but a big big heart. I'm absolutely obsessed with The Witcher lore. When the first (and second) game came out I didn't have a proper computer to run them and I was heartbroken. Now I'm playing Witcher 3 on PS4, I'm on my second playthrough with the platinum trophy in mind. I've read the books(multiple times) , watched the TV series(multiple times) and finally bought the physical copy of the first two games... Even though I already have the whole collection digitally on Steam. Still, I need a proper PC to run them :D Even after the Platinum, I'll play not just the third game, but the whole franchise again and again. Being a middle-european (Hungarian) and with Poland being an actual neighbour country, this lore is very close to me and the events, stories, references and nods are basically my childhood. Again, thank you for this video, I'm happy that I'm not the only one who loves this franchise with an ever burning and undying passion. Cheers dude!

Ironically, the Witcher Continent wasn't given any official maps in the books. Official witcher maps only came as part of the production of the games some time later. Also, I read the Earthsea books while abroad for the season right after playing the Witcher 3 and right before playing Blood and Wine when I returned. I definitely remember seeing some interesting parallels between the two series.

I’ve played through the game 9 times. I’m currently on my 10th, I doubt I’ll make it in time for cp2077... just because every time I start a new play through I savor it tremendously and feel almost like a responsibility, a duty to play it as best as I can. It is not just “a game” it is something bigger. It’s a phenomenal phenomenal work of art, the absolute best piece of entertainment I’ve ever consumed. The feelings it conjured have never been replicated or even come close in any other game past or present, and I’ve been playing games for almost two decades. That scene where you’re just chilling with Regis, next to the fire... drinking his homemade Booz... the music starts playing as the moon sits in the background, a deep moment of serenity, despite all the ordeals you’ve gone through w/ Geralt... beautiful.
