@@justanotheraviator2357 a towing guy told me once that they separate the drive shaft because your truck is off. So there's no coolant circulating through your transmission which can overheat it and destroy it. So they remove it so there's no movement in your transmission.

That´s how work is done efficiently. You´d need to be able to grab into that tool box and have picked the right tool without even looking where your hands go. Also when there´s lives on the line, you just don´t make a mistake. Not like "you better not make a mistake", you just don´t make a mistake, period.

That's a baby load. I did oversize/heavy haul for over 20 years. Average load 300k+/-, biggest load, just under 500k 28 feet wide. You have to know your business, the stress on equipment is tremendous, easy to drop a clutch or an entire trans without a blink of an eye. Good job on your first time of a load that size. Attention to detail and the small stuff is your biggest tool for success.

wow, backing up that whole train at the yard, I would have liked to see that at regular speed. Also, when you were figuring out how to tie the red air hose into the harness to the trailer, did you ever consider getting some Gear Ties? Those are rubber coated metal wires and you use them like twist ties to tie stuff together. They come in different sizes and colors too and are so universal to use and reuse.

Backing up trailer and truck it's hard but not that hard. Why backing up American doubles is hard is that dolly it gives you a extra pivot point. And the dolly is so short by the time you see the trailer doing something it's to late to recover. If you watch like outback truckers and stuff those doubles people back all the time. Now with that said it was cool I've done it with a camper and trailer well think the campers with motors are rv's it was a camper with a motor and a car trailer behind. I was in a week training to haul wreckers. I was on the side of the road and the car I was hauling I guy hit the mirror i was standing there not 5 seconds before he side swiped car and didnt stop btw. I took the truck back with the trainer and handed in my keys and said sorry but not for me. So to this guy hats off to you.

Just a question (some states are different): Did d.o.t. reissue a permit and route, or do you supersede that in your state? Your tow vehicle changes the dimension, weight, and axle spacing for the new total load. Most loads/permit applications go through a bridge analysis for overweight routing (Some have "annuals" but require carried bridge maps which the driver keeps on hand.) Just Curious Great Video!

Generally there is an overarching recovery vehicle permit that covers you to go wherever the original vehicle was permitted to go within reason and if safe.
@leighmackay7486
@leighmackay7486 5 жыл бұрын
My question too. So the rig has been permitted. Assuming that the front axle is 20k or less, I reason that the tow vehicle takes that weight and spreads it even further from the drive axle(s) and distributes that weight over tandem axles with dualies. Wouldn't that improve on a bridge analysis review? Therefore, I recon that a skilled operator like the lad we see in this video should be able to drive the rig to any destination covered by the initial permit/route regulations. I'm likely missing an important consideration. Cheers.

Why disconnect the axle if it's in neutral
@ericl1627
@ericl1627 6 жыл бұрын
They do this for two reasons. One manufacturer's like freightliner have a big sticker and even in book do not tow with drive shaft connected may cause driveline damage. Now I've had tow trucks drives pick up my rigs and some will disconnect some will not but my idea and if I owned a tow truck company every drive shaft if the drives are on the ground drive shaft out. Think about say the trans gets stuck or something and you blow a trans while pulling it down the road. Your now responsible for replacing that and there not cheap. Lastly today's log books go off speed of vehicle. So my buddy was on line 4 and drove a hour over his 14 because his truck moved and the logbook came on and he didnt know while in shop for 3 days he was on line 4.

Wow what an underrated truck for the size of load. Tiny axles and driveshaft. And no rear rear axle like WTF was he thinking.Definitely not a heavy spec tractor.

I might be a little lost on youtube right now, but this was one of the most interesting videos I've seen. Enjoyed watching the process of hooking up a semi for towing.

This is so interesting to me. I love the channel! I have a question though. Why do you disconnect the drive shaft? The truck is in neutral right? And why do you have to disconnect it if regular tow trucks don’t have to do that while towing cars and pickups? Thanks.
@littleguy7591
@littleguy7591 4 жыл бұрын
Nico Lucia the reason he has to disconnect the drive is to prevent transmission damage I drive box trucks and had to be towed a few times from breakdowns and the driver of the wrecker had to pull the drive shaft to prevent transmission damage with normal cars and trucks they tow the rear wheel drive vehicles on a flat bed and the smaller wrecker (wheel lift units) can only pull the front wheel drive cars if they have to tow the rear wheel drive on a wheel lift wrecker then they tow it with the rear wheels on the wheel lift but they cannot lift a big truck by the back wheels so they have to pull the drive shaft off to prevent transmission damage

150,000 lbs I’m assuming is a lot of weight for US drivers with there normal baby weights of 80,000lbs. Australia and Canada allow far more weights, on my B-Double (B Train) I’m 139,500 lbs. the payload alone is 99,000lbs. The point I’m making is this, the US is not utilizing there fleet of trucks to there fullest. Using quad trailers and B-doubles they can carry twice the weight, they put less weight per wheel per axle down on asphalt. They can move more product more efficiently. It’s incredible that the US has the lightest trucks in the world.
