In today's video Trent jr is called out by CHP to tow away a truck that has been abandoned. The owner of the truck was contacted and e said he doesn't want it anymore. Trent Jr has to unlock the vehicle using lockout tools to allow the CHP officer to get information off of the truck such as VIN. Enjoy!

Q:What camera do you use?
A: I use the Go Pro Hero 7 Black Edition primarily. Often times you will see auxillary cameras in use. Those cameras include The Go Pro Hero 6, Hero, and DJI Mavic Pro Platinum
Q: How big Is your rotator?
A: It is a 50 ton Miller Industries Vulcan 950
Q: Does the carriage slide back like Ron Pratt's?
A: No, the carriage doesn't slide back due to strict weight laws in California. The sliding carriage will make the truck to heavy in CA
Q: Why do you only have 3 winches on the rotator?
A: Comes down to weight again as stated above
Q: How many trucks Does Plaza Towing have?
A: Currently more than 30
Q: Why must the driveshaft be removed to tow a vehicle?
A: When vehicles are not running the transmission is not receiving circulating lubricant. If the driveshaft is left installed, the transmission, which is not receiving lubricant, is still spinning. This allows it to get very hot which eventually will cause major damage to the transmission. Therefore, removing the driveshaft completely eliminates the transmission from spinning. Simply leaving it in neutral is not sufficient since the transmission still spins in neutral.

The reason we did not hook it from the rear is there is debris directly behind the truck that would inhibit us from getting perfectly straight with the unit. Yes we can hook from different angles but sometimes it’s just not worth the hassle. Additionally the combination of it being abandoned and it being 50 miles from our shop leave us to believe it is safer to tow from the front, with 8 tires on the ground rather than from the rear with only 2 tires on the ground. This and the taken apart steering Column lead us to believe-front towing was the best option. We appreciate you watching!

About ten years ago, I worked on a mine site in the Pilbara region of Western Australia with a bloke who had lived and worked in the U.S. for a while, mostly in road transport. He told me that one job he had was working for a business that recovered abandoned trucks. He said that guys would get a job driving long distance, get a load, take it to wherever it was going and then decide that they didn't like the job, so they'd just walk off and leave the truck! He said he didn't much care about the motives of these idiots, especially when you take into consider that because of these people, he got to visit every state in the union except Alaska and got paid for it! My kinda job, I reckon.

Have used International pro star key to unlock 8 out of 16 same trucks on yd many times !! Also ,,used same key to unlock other drivers doors from other companies with same tractors !! Also, watch 1 of JBG Travels videos where he uses 2 Boot lases tried together with a loop in the center & work the lases down the door from the top to catch the door lock inside !!! Good trick that I didn't know about till saw him do it !!! Anyhows,, enough rambling !!!! Have a good day & KEEP IT SAFE !!!!!

There is a process to go through and a lot of variables. Likely if the owner doesnt claim it the finance company will pay for the tow and storage and collect it. If its paid off then it will have to go through Repossession. After that Plaza would own it.
@towtruckaj
@towtruckaj 5 жыл бұрын
Idk how it works in California or how it works with commercial vehicles, but in Ohio for light duty shit, if we impound it the owner or finance company has to come to pay the tow and impound fee, if not after 15 days we file for title and eventually when approved all fees are waived and we own the vehicle, owner owes nothing but we now own their car, Same with wrecks and such left on the lot.

It looks old enough to be paid off. It is so expensive to maintain a truck nowdays,I don t blame the owner for giving up,best thing to do is be a company driver with a decent company and leave the ownership problems to some one else.
@kfg7733
@kfg7733 5 жыл бұрын
Most likely the truck is going to have all the tow and storage fees that have to be paid by who picks the truck up. (owner or bank) if neither of them pick up the truck after notifications are mailed to both partys and a certain time frame passes the tow company can file paper work for title and legally own the truck outright.the bank will then go thru lawsuits and collection's to get how ever much money was still owed from the debtor

You're right. The release cable breaks, but there are emergency release cables on both sides up under the wheel opening. It's just a wire loop hanging through a hole in the plastic.

I doubt the "owner" was the driver, probable a lease purchase that broke down all the time. Driver probably said F it and walked away from the hole.

well, @GLENN,,, this is typical of all vehicles, not just Semi Trucks,,, noticed many yrs ago that my auto key opened another vehicle (same color, model, make, etc) when at a convention, and i mistakenly opened someone else's vehicle with my key,,, never knew that "DETROIT" (auto companies) key so many vehicles alike, to save on expenses and to eliminate the need for so many diff combinations/etc

I can appreciate all of the double checks that he performed. Even if you’re a seasoned driver such as myself, distractions can occur and throw you off. Once I forgot to release the parking break on the truck, and luckily when I got onto the highway a motorist honked his horn and gestured to the rear of the truck. When I pulled over and checked it out the brake rotor was red hot, and may of been possibly very close to bursting into flames.

@OWNAGEnot
@OWNAGEnot 5 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, it's so you don't damage the transmission or engine on a long tow. Not sure if trucks work similar to cars but my friend who tows said that is the driveline/ shaft is connected, it will still spin the engine but no oil will be moving to lubricate anything. And that is never good.
@jonathanvanginkel3849
@jonathanvanginkel3849 5 жыл бұрын
The transmission will spin without the engine running due to the engine not running no or little lubrication is provided to the transmission causing it to get extremely hot causing significant damage ....go to the byline or whatever of the video he explains in one of the questions

Is there a reason not to tow it by the rear?
@tomh3652
@tomh3652 5 жыл бұрын
Yes at highway speeds the wind can damage the air shield on top of the cab towing backwards and the mirrors are not meant to go backwards at that speed. Less chance of damage towing from the front.

I believe it has something to with the air bag suspension. If it were towed by the rear, the suspension on the drives has to be chained up to the frame to keep it together to avoid damage when the weight of the truck is off of it. Also, the steering wheel has to be anchored to keep it from moving when being reverse towed.
@plazatowing
@plazatowing 5 жыл бұрын
USMMCE The reason we did not hook it from the rear is there is debris directly behind the truck that would inhibit us from getting perfectly straight with the unit.

Are you an Owner/Operator or do you work for Plaza Towing? I'm just curious, I lived in Las Vegas, Nevada 35 years and for a short while (about 3 years) and I drove for Ewing Brothers Towing. The keys locks are so cheaply made that most of them can be unlocked with a custom key in seconds. My friend did that quiet often on Frightlieners trucks due to recovering them for the company he drove for. Was attending a convention in Reno, NV. While chatting with other truck drivers there, hotel security with a lockout person was asking us who was locked out. Wasn't us, but did find the truck in the lot next to us with the driver outside. It was a late model Frightliener truck. "Locksmith" said "I am the pro here" or something to that effect fluffing up his eagle feathers. After he got done with the driver door and move to the passenger door, my friend got permission from the driver, walk to the driver door, put his key in it and after a few seconds of just the right jiggling, unlocked it. Everyone there tried there best to not laugh out loud too much. The poor locksmith got his eagle completely blown apart.
