Yeah, base camping at Talbotville is a great spot. So many tracks out from camp to check out. I must get back some day. Cheers Tim.

As always mate, such detailed information on the tracks. I don't think any other channel comes even close to this as far as track info, especially for people that are new to the 4wd scene. One can study a map as much as they want but details like this is invaluable. Thanks Tim.

Thanks mate, You have a great trip when you head into Talbotville next weekend. It is a great spot to camp and the 24 crossings of the Crooked River is a stunning drive. Heading up Billy Goat Bluff Track mate with road tyres and no lift, you will need to be careful. As you head past the heli pad going up, you will get a few loose rocky sections. You'll need to watch you lines with road tyres mate.

Tim what’s the High Country like at Easter time . We are making plans to head over from the 16th going over to Tom Grogginess then explore from there.
@timbates4wdadventures6 жыл бұрын
G'day mate, Easter can be a busy time in the High Country. Tom Groggin and up over Davies Plain can be a popular area, depends on the weather sometimes as to how many you will see on the tracks. But, also, that area is a bit further for most people to travel, and it can be not to bad on the tracks and finding a good spot to camp.

Another very informative video Tim, well done buddy. Looking at your signage on the back of your patrol, do you do private tours?

Hi Tim great video. We are planning our first tour of Talbotville next weekend. We are driving a 60 series Landcruiser but has no snorkle - would 24 Crossings be out of the question for us?
@timbates4wdadventures5 жыл бұрын
G'day Sarah, I wouldn't advise for anyone to drive a river crossing without a snorkel, only asking for trouble. Even if you guys make the decision to drives the Crooked River, i would be spraying all of the electrical's under the bonnet of the 60. Even more so at the moment. The river systems in the Dargo area are pretty high with snow melt and rains over the past few weeks. More snow and rain is forecast this coming weekend. Thanks for your question and you have a great trip into Talbotville. Cheers Tim.

Such a beautiful place, shame it lost its structure to fires, Talbotville town back in the day was beautiful in photo I believe the last building was burnt by some idiot burning blackberry, I think I was born in the wrong century would of loved to live my whole life up their, 20 years living around Eaglevale run was the best times of my life I so miss it. The Pinnacles look out on a good day you can see far as Sale with good eye seeing device some say you can see the ocean, I know a few people who lived in those times from owners of property, Big names like the Trails which go far and wide up there, Francis Trail was from Talbotville days when the town was up and going, the grave yard has their family tree name from family past, Jeff Trail who long gone lived on Crooked river rd lost his life in house when his solar batteries caught fire he was Francis brother she married Bruce Dungey who brought shares in the property with someone else who he then brought outright because of children came along last I know he was the owner of the general store in Dargo well his son is or was, Bruce and partner brought it from the Jim junior as he stayed on when Harry died on the way to hospital in the back of a wagon with appendicitis not sure which and they had 3 children Barry, Joy, Richard, Not sure if Francis is alive but she was the one I got the 2 killers names of Bamford and Barclay from, Barry still the owner of 3/4 of Happy valley as it known today where Harry Smith Hut is Located. The B. Dungey brought a Bit of land of his Brother when he sold his share as his 3 girls did not take to the place, Richard brought a bit of his sister before selling out to his brother. Barry has a big family 8 I think in total. Harry moved from his Parents when he got older and built his hut where it is today, Bruce and Francis stayed in the hut till they finished building there homestead then turned the hut into a shearing shed till the Worsley brothers wanted to rebuild the hut in 1989. Its a heavy place you can feel the heaviness of its secret's, the whole area bad things happened from Bamford wife dying at Black snake creek too the Gibbs at Kingswell who father blew his brains out from hardship, then the children up their at the station who died of the flu virus to Jim and Bamford death, Its was not a easy place to live in those days when horses was the only way in and out. Bruce well he took his own life in his favorite fishing hole on the Mitchell river reading a book by gassing himself in the car, he had terminal stomach cancer and was getting so bad he decided he could not live like it. I suppose he died with a bit of Happy valley flowing past him as the waters make it down to the ocean.. So yeah I know a bit about the place up there in the magic mystery mountains... Lot of places to see and look at, the old gold mine where the machinery of the old stamper lays is another spot to have a look at, bit of a high clime to get to from the vehicle... Its sad how a lot of the families up their don't get on because of who inherited the best land from parents. You can't make a living of the land anymore up there you need a second paying job to make it work. I end with a funny story, a person of Tony Schubler who created a magazine in his Uni days started a magazine called go set ( You can look up on line its all there) which was all about music in 1969, in 1972 or 3 he sold it to a American firm and at that time Jeff trail old man who was the owner of eaglevale flats where the river crossing is and down river had that land on the market as he owed the tax man around 20k, he went to Dargo pub and meet with Trail senior on a Saturday to buy this property, I think he purchased it for about 17k then a week latter Trail Senior won Tattslotto talk about luck of timing it would be still owned by Trails if he waited a week longer to buy the place, one day I was on a tractor on his farm and ABC had this episode about the Go Set magazine, Tony told me weeks prior he famed Molly Meldrum as he worked for him on this go set music book. Well I never believed him and when I walked in for lunch he said did you hear it, I said OK you where not lying... Funny hay you just don't know people you meet in life...Hope this was enjoyment to read I'm not the best writer.
