@@theodoreolson8529 There is a difference between someone using your product, and you providing your service to commit a crime. I actually just Googled the exact thing a potential victim might Google and I saw no sponsored ads. I tried in incognito mode and saw none. I Googled 'Activate Prime TV' and saw one of them. I went to the site, as Ben did, and typed a random word as the 'activation code' and sure enough, it sent me to another page with a number. Everybody watching this video should go to Google and find any ad like this and report it. Maybe we can get Google's attention and they will take some of them down.

Gift card scams, romance scams, crypto scams, banking scams, friend/ relatives arrested scams, banking scams, offering witch doctor spell scams, IRS scams. These creeps have to work harder, become more creative, invest more time to get anywhere with their targets. Scammers know they are losing their edge thanks to YT channels like this. As scammers are being exposed for who & what they truly are, it's becoming more difficult to scam people.

They are paid “advertisements” and the link does say that it isn’t the official site. And there are enough sites that are legit that it is hard to sort through all of them. And by legit, I mean they aren’t trying to scam you, they are simply trying to sell you something. I have accidentally clicked on a couple of those links in the past and I was sent to sites that were somewhat related to what I was looking for. One was when I was trying to order parts for my Craftsman lawn tractor. I thought I was clicking on the actual Sears/Craftsman site, but it was an off brand parts company. The only way to stop it from happening would be if Goggle stop allowing all ads on there search page, and that won’t be happening anytime soon.

Many scammers are people who tried to get work in call centres, but couldn't because it is very competitive there, and maybe their English is not good enough or whatever. And because they have this massive call centre industry, the tools are there to create a large parasite scam industry. From what I can tell, the recent increase is linked to the pandemic. On the one hand lots of people (many not very tech-savvy) switched over to online services during the pandemic and have stayed with them, creating a large market of vulnerable users. On the other hand lots of jobs which were shut down by the pandemic have probably not come back since, also in India. So, people who lost their job in the pandemic have taken to scamming to make ends meet.

The main reason is how easy it's become to buy things online. A few years ago, a senior citizen would have no idea how to enter their credit card into a website, even if you tried walking them through it. People need to know that when you talk to Amazon, they send you a text to see if it’s really you and then you talk to a representative scammers almost got me few years ago thank God the girl at the dollar store realized it they didnt get a penny from Me 😅
@TheCrazyMoparDude68
@TheCrazyMoparDude68 4 ай бұрын
That won’t help, these scammers can also send you texts. The only way to protect yourself from these kinds of scams and other email and text scams is to never call the number they gave you or use the link. My mom got an email saying her Amazon account was hacked and to either click on the link or call the number provided. Luckily she called me first and I told her that it was a scam, but she was still afraid that her account was hacked. So I went over to her house and we logged onto her Amazon account and there were no charges like the email had said. Then to make her feel better, we contacted Amazon help through the webpage and confirmed that they never sent an email and the account was secure. I told her that she should never call the number or use the link provided in emails or text messages, but to find the contact information from the website. And to never believe someone calling her saying they are from a credit card company or any company claiming that she has been hacked. She should ask their name and then tell them she will call them back after she looks up the number herself.

So calm, so understandable. This type of video and the awareness, just wish more would watch. I'm in the UK - we have 'hit' a least once a month. I know several who have been scammed, they come in all shapes and forms. We spent a day, getting various communications to contact our bank immediately, DON'T ANSWER IT, it's a scam. Then the landline rang, now that was strange. So we contacted the bank using the NUMBER ON THE BACK OF THE CARD. There had been a hit on our bank account, they wouldn't give us any details of when, how or what - just wanted confirmation that the purchases weren't ours. We have a certain patterns of behaviour with our transactions as this fell outside the normal range BE WARNED!

The Problem is that there will always be something like Gift Cards work now, or Crypto, or just sending the Money to a Mule. The solution isnt to change the tools they use, the solution is more drastic. First of all, Geoblocking for the western world. Africa, India, China, North Korea, South America etc. should be generally geoblocked in the Western World and not accessible. VPN Services hosting western servers should be forced to only operate in the western world. We have to make sure that the countries we cant control cant have access to us. After those geoblocks are in place, and if the scams do not stop, countries need to consult other nations governments. If they do not cooperate, trade restrictions, political disadvantages and in worst case even threat of war should be put in place. People do not realize what a big deal it is. It isnt just scamming, its a carpetbombing of terrorism.

@@BatLB The main issue is than the police is not allowed to chase scammers outside the country who is victim of the scam. Do we want thtat ?

Why can’t AnyDesk and all these other remote access providers display a pop-up warning showing the general location of another device? If a representative is claiming to be from Amazon and all these other major companies, they wouldn’t be calling from places like India or Africa. That would be an obvious hint that they aren’t who they say they are. And if they’re using a VPN, then deny access to the scammer. It’s that simple. I’m sure there’s technicians smart enough to figure out something like that.
@Kristinapedia

That makes a lot of sense but many people think these huge companies outsource to India. When in fact they are U.S. citizens and often working from home.
@JW-vi2nh

Africa, maybe. But the truth is, there are a LOT of Amazon customer support agents based in India. Scariest thing of all is that Amazon's very own fraud department is based there. So if there is fraudulent activity happening on an account and it gets reported, that report goes to India. Also, for certain services they offer, if it goes over a certain VERY high dollar amount and needs to be verified as legit before processing payment, an Indian is the person who will call the customer. That seems like the stupidest thing I can imagine: the biggest corporation to ever exist sends their fraud contacts to the fraud capitol of the world (and a place where extreme poverty is rampant), where all it takes is one disgruntled employee or former employee in need of a few dollars to start stealing customer info or accounts. Make it make sense.

That's a fabulous video Ben. It is sad you could not advise the police in India to knock on his door and arrest him. Didn't they start some task force to action this without going through Interpol? If I was an Indian national, I would be lobbying my government to fast-track the prosecution and investigation of these people, going public to discourage other young people from using this as an income stream.
