I bought a 2013 Altima from a rental car company with 30k miles on it in 2015. No major issues aside from typical items like oil, breaks, battery. It currently has 252K miles on it and it's going strong. Regular oil changes, freeway miles, and quality fuel seems to work.

Likewise, I had a 2007 3.5 SE I bought used in 2012 with around 40k miles, then traded that in 2013 for a new 2.5 SV. The 2007 only had around 75k miles when I traded it, but still I had zero problems with that car. My 2013 just passed 200k miles, and while it does have a check engine light on (cat, or maybe O2 sensor), it runs like it did when new, and other than a compressor control valve for the A/C compressor, it has needed nothing except oil, tires, brakes, and battery. Oh, I did have the CVT fluid changed around 85k, so will probably have that done again soon. While I agree Toyota has a better general record for build quality (not even close to the 10x Scotty wants us to believe though), I have also ridden in some older Camrys that felt like rattle traps. I also used to think Honda was up there with Toyota, but then I bought a 2016 Pilot... but that's another story.

@@rgorman8189 Honestly if the fluid doesn't overheat it can last forever. It's designed to last the lifetime of the car, but it is prone to overheating. Sounds like Joalzeer was driving in ideal conditions in cooler climate. Scotty is a joke. The Jatco transmission is very reliable if you are aware of their limitations and problems. They just require the driver to make judgement calls on when to inspect the fluid - i.e. draining ~100 mL of fluid into a white cup. If it is tinged black, change it. If it's light brown, it's okay for awhile. Driving through the Ozarks in summer months? Just change the fluid immediately. Driving 10 miles to work in a 55 mph zone in Iowa? I wouldn't bother inspecting it until 60-70k miles. There is no maintenance interval, as the interval is change it whenever it is burnt. Could be 1,000 miles or 100,000 miles.

I've also worked on cars for about 30 years and was a Mercedes mechanic in a Pontiac dealership for a while after I left Mack trucks so I have a wide variety of experience and not too long ago sold my '85 Dodge Shelby Turbo which I regretted soon after doing so when going to look for a suitable replacement. I guess I'll be driving my '85 Jeep CJ and '74 Plymouth Duster (highly modified) for a while longer. Maybe I will be able to find another Shelby close to what I sold mine for. The hesitation, or rough idle when stopped/slowing down (also occasionally stalling out completely) was corrected by changing cam shaft sensor. The issue where engine turns over, but won't crank (also had fuel smell while turning over) was corrected by changing crank shaft sensor. Both are relatively cheap parts to replace. I bought a used 2014 Nissan Teana Malaysia and I NEVER had any major problems other than Gas, Oil, Break, filters, and a ton of miles on it. I never even changed the CVT oil yet. I did changed the spark plugs and a PCV valve too and I did it myself from watching KZbin videos. If you care the care it will serve you well, don’t care it and it will give up the ghost. My car runs like a charm and never left me on the roadside after 5 years. Edit: And the rims are tougher than the crap they are selling elsewhere and still looks new.

Nice. I have a 2008. Not a hiccup and mine has exactly 150k right now. I've changed the fluid twice so far. I think it's safe to say change the fluid once every 5 years or 60k miles, don't use the shift tapper, and don't drive with a lead foot. Car is smooth as hell, drives nice. A few minor jobs along the way like power steering and fuel pump. I'm working on the radiator hose tonight and fixing the AC temperature control actuator. Hasn't been a bad car really.

I have a 2003 Nissan Altima with over 233,000km (at the time of this writing) and these are the problems I’ve noticed on this vehicle. -water pump failed (replaces under warranty) -crankshaft and camshaft sensors went out and set a SES light on. -the valve cover seals will start leaking oil into the spark plug tubes at around 166,000km leading to misfires and ruined spark plugs/ignition coils. -the exhaust manifold/precast will disintegrate which sends abrasive materials in the engine causing oil burning. Mine is burning 1/2 quart every 2000km -motor mounts goes out on this vehicle. A clunking/vibrating noise upon acceleration. -the passenger, front seat floorboard will corrode leading to a hole which is a safety hazard. -headlights will yellow out. Just needs any headlight restoration. -the blower resistor motor goes out and Nissan made it difficult to put a screwdriver in unless you break the plastic in the way. -SES P0442 and P1456. Couldn’t find the source of the leak despite replacing gas cap and “smoking” the system.

2007 Altima. Bought new. 165,000 miles in northeast climate. CVT transmission. 0 problems with engine, transmission, or electrical system. Paint is in very good condition for a non-garaged, northeastern climate car. Interior looks like new. About the only super minor thing I could critique is that the CD player stopped working about 6 or 7 years after I bought it. Thing runs like a mechanical German clock. I want to say it was $22,000 new. Tremendous value. Yes, I would like to see Nissan go back to conventional automatic transmissions and body on frame SUV's. However, it's highly unlikely and either way, I think Nissan's are a great value. Friend of mine had TWO Honda Accords, both bought brand new around 1995, and ended up having to replace BOTH transmissions. I will agree that Toyota/Lexus have been leading the automotive pack for the past 30 years, however, I think all the other non-American nameplate automakers are about the same. I would buy a 10 year-old (well-kept) Nissan before I would buy a brand new GM, Ford, or Chrysler product.

Those aren't bad. Ofc they can have transmission issues, but they're still pretty decent. I really think a car will show its reliability when it gets 200K+. Like your average brands last around 150K-220K, your above average brands can go 300K+. I once bought a 05 Honda civic with 300K Miles. It drove like it had 60K. Unfortunately the car had too many DIY jobs and the timing belt happened to be one of them (installed incorrectly and it melted by rubbing against something). I've owned allot of cars, and when they hit that 200K+ Mileage I start getting anxiety and think "I don't know" when it comes to large distances to travel, but that Honda was one of the only cars that made me feel otherwise. I think having the tiny engine and basic engineering made me feel like there was little to go wrong. Plus again, the car drove like 60K. Granted, my most reliable cars were Nissans, 1998 Infiniti Q45 T and a 1997 Maxima, many years of trouble-free ownership, solid build, never had any issues. This was pre-Renault merger though so of-course they were reliable. By far my best exp with any car.

Ive had a 2010 Altima now for about 10 years. Currently has about 144000 miles. Always changed fluids. I use Mobil 1 synthetic and good filter for the crankcase. I change them myself every 7000 miles Runs perfect. Main issue with altimas, since 2008, has been CVT transmission. Not going to lie but I'm always worried about mine. What I've learned is that heat kills these transmissions. Very important to keep the fluid changed regularly. Full exchange, via dealership (which is about 10 qts every 60000 miles, not the cheaper 5 qt drain and fill). Not sure if climates affect life of transmission. I live in a cooler/Midwest region. Maybe down south, the heat can negatively affect the life of the tranny. Regardless, if you don't keep clean fluids, it's not going to last..

Never any engine and transmission issues. Just all the usual wear and tear stuff. Hell it even made a move to and from GA to WA in 2011 as a 10 plus year old car zero issues I had it packed to the max. Over time the driver side window control module stopped working. The AC system never an issue. It ran like a tank all things being equal given how I didn’t properly maintain it as much as I should have until later on in the vehicles life. When I ended up buying my 2000 Camry, I test drove the 2000 Altima. I loved the drivability of the Altima. The way it handled curves, acceleration, the tightness of the steering I thought was superior to the Camry. The Nissan dealer seeing how impressed I was with the Altima offered a test drive of the Maxima. Interesting it wasn't appealing at all, and I thought the Camry actually drove better, but that Altima was a firecracker. The reason I went with the Camry is it was bigger, more trunk space, the interior seemed spacious, and I thought a car seat would fit better. So I lucked out do to its size, had that Camry for 11 years and 278,000 miles. Nothing really wrong, but the kid was getting bigger so we went to a minivan. I test drove the 2000 Hyundai Sonata as well, but ruled it out as it dipped into the turns. My mom ended up buying one and sure enough within 3 years she had to take it to the dealer for a suspension overhaul. At least it was covered.
@ViolentMLG4 жыл бұрын
That's a cool review from someone who was there when these were new. I think scotty forgot that the Maxima is a competitor to the Camry, not the Altima. The Maxima is a better luxury exp, hands down, but you won't get the reliability. The most reliable vehicles I owned were Nissan's. 1998 Infiniti Q45 T and 1997 Maxima. Pre-merger. The Nissan and Infiniti never creaked or rattled. 20+ Years later, 160K on the Infiniti, 200K on the Maxima. The Infiniti could take one hell of a beating. It would bust 135MPH on the HW with no issues, amazing brakes (saved me from a few accidents). Fantastic car. The maxima was of-course not as nice, but I still had the top of the line model, vinyl heated seats, digital climate control, etc. Never broke down on me. I notice that Nissans seem to develop power steering leaks though. Its something Nissan has always had an issue with. My Q45 had an issue with it. Also they have issues with the MAF censor which can cause knocking under load. Sadly today i'd never buy another Nissan, but those 90's Nissan's were really a great bargain. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a cheap car today. Hopefully Nissan ditches their CVT's and we see them come back after the whole embezzlement situation.

Consumer Reports gives the Nissan Altima a 5 out of 5 rating for reliability. If you take care of them they run great in most cases. We’ve had 10 Nissans from 1994 to present and in my opinion they are excellent vehicles.

Hey Scotty! We bought one of these for our daughter when she was in college. (graduated 2017) She's still driving it, but is looking for something newer and we intend to sell it. Hers has 174,000 miles. It doesn't look good, but it still runs good! I'm the mechanic in the family and I have to admit I've replaced a few parts. Cosmetically, you're right, the paint is terrible, the dash is cracked, the radio quit working, but it's mechanically sound. I check the fluids regularly and change the oil about every 6 months regardless of mileage. I've replaced the o2 sensors only once a couple of years ago. It passed inspection first try this year! I did have to replace both front door outside handles. It is an automatic and we've not had problems with it leaking. I guess we got lucky. We're in NC.

I love my 2014 Altima. 196k miles and no major issues. I've only done oil changes. I haven't touch the transmission (too late now) or the coolant (that's this weekend). I only had to change out the cat converter. I followed a KZbin video and did it myself for 350 bucks. I'm changing out the suspension now. Maybe I'm just lucky but it's been a good car.

I have a 2010 Nissan Altima I’ve had it for 6 years It hasn’t left me stranded on the road . Good car If you take care of it . All cars eventually need repairs they don’t last forever but yes If you buy a new car and it breaks the next day yeah it’s trash .

That's because people don't take care of their cars. Usually people buy these cars because their cheaper, but they end up going cheap on maintenance too.

same, i have an 03 with the 2.5s. it's got an intermittent EGR code its throwing and i just had to for some damned reason screw the end cap back into the steering rack for uh? Nissan reasons? But i still love the stupid thing, and it's been a pretty solid, or at least "easy enough to fix" ride compared to MANY I've owned.

I drive my dad's 1987 Nissan Maxima wagon with over 300, 000 miles on it. It is an army tank! It recently needed an Air Mass Sensor and a stuck open fuel injector. It has a 2 valve per cylinder V6. It has a ton of low end torque. It is getting some repairs done right now and I can't wait to get it back!

I have a 09 Nissan Altima been with it for 10 years, and it hasn’t had no major issues. Is my very first car and I have loved it. I bought my dad another Nissan Altima 2012 and we have 4 years with it and no major issues either except for the dumb headlight issues. I had to the whole headlight to fix the dim lights.

Scotty, here in the philippines, lots of mechanics can make that nissan run like a top. Those motor mounts, power steering, etc are a piece of cake for pinoy mechanics

@@Mabeylater293 You gotta replace them early... they kick back dust into the exhaust manifold and turn the oil in the sludge. It's a known problem. I have an 05 Altima and was able to side step that little design flaw.
