Similarly, I'm amazed at how recruiters think about tech stacks these days. They will post a job demanding, say, Angular experience. They'll receive a resume from someone with React and Vue.js and throw the resume in the trash because yOu dOn'T hAvE aNgUlAr eXpErIeNcE. As if it's IMPOSSIBLE to learn a new framework quickly if you have significant experience with similar products. So frustrating.

This was literally me. I can't remember the year specifically 2019 or 2020. I've never learnt Angular since then, and I will never learn it.

"If anyone is talking in absolutes rather than tradeoffs, just ignore them" - An absolute statement. Now what do I do?

just take it with a grain of salt and consider it as a reminder to approach things with a balanced perspective.

Yep. Just jumped from Node JS at my previous job to now working with Visual Basic. The tools are just that, tools.

Plot twist, you still have dynamic types in typescript.

Yup, I believe it's way better to perfectly master an imperfect tool than the opposite. At some point, programming feels like learning new tools to build the same things, and it feels like a waste of time to learn new hot tools that will be around just a few years

The whole stack vs stack thing is getting old. You say you don't like stack A over stack B but the engineers using stack A aren't complaining and they are damn good at what they do.

I follow some solopreneurs on Twitter. The very successful ones never mention tech stack wars. They still use jQuery. End customers don't give a damn about tech stacks.

Because successful entrepreneurs get shit done instead of sitting around on twitter arguing about stuff they don’t understand while sipping coffee.

i rly dont care what language i have to use on the job anymore, my entire goal with programming is to just be good at it & what better way to be good at it than by writing code in multiple languages? the fundamentals essentially stay the same safe for some more esoteric languages such as haskell. even so, there are no jobs in it.
@SOLDAT_MENDES7 ай бұрын
yeah, being proficient in multiple programming languages can definitely broaden your skillset and make you a versatile developer. While the fundamentals remain consistent across languages, there are unique aspects to each one. As for Haskell, although it may not have as many job opportunities compared to more mainstream languages, there are still positions available. It can be a valuable skill to have, especially in certain domains like functional programming and academia. Keep exploring and honing your skills.

i just tweeted about this. saying that not all problems are to be solved. sometimes by solving a problem, we take more time that could be better spent doing other things that will bring more value. and yes some technologies solve some problems but does using them will benefit the product more than not? can we focus on other problems to solve that will bring more value to the company or product?

I am bored out of my mind. You can’t compare JavaScript and Typescript as Typescript is a superset of JavaScript, obviously. It’s whether to use it or not.

Context is king in almost any situation, but also these debates are what help progressing things and some folks get dragged in the wrong discussions along the way( see endless debates between framework authors themselves, Evan Yo, Rich Harris... etc. Those are not amators)

Although very informative, this video ignores some options. It doesn't have to be either 90+% type-safe TS or bare JS: e.g. a simple script for converting .js to .ts, is worth every second, objectively; no trade offs.

Zig is the best language though. The tradeoff is working with people / tech that haven't caught up to it's brilliance yet. In the meantime I will build my perfect software in blissful isolation while the populance flounder in their misery
@nathanfranck58227 ай бұрын
Typescript types can be inserted incrementally into codebases, especially when your about to do a refactor, it might save you time to guard the things your about to touch in types so that you know after the refactor that nothing broke without exploring all the code paths
@nathanfranck58227 ай бұрын
Nice video! Too aggressively centrist IMO but yeah, the thumbnails for all the tech videos sure give the impression we are missing out on the next greatest thing. I believe that there is old languages and frameworks that are just crufty and we do benefit as a community by reinventing wheels and trying new things. The best way to combat the soy dev 100-tech-sticker-laptop people is by showing cool new software and solutions. I respect AngeTheGreat and Engine Sim showing awesome physics sims, game dev youtubers putting out dev logs, Tsoding releasing hilareously and ironically niche code streams, etc etc. There are a tonne of fun and diverse voices in the dev space that aren't just listing tech and frameworks. I love it here ❤
