@@barbarasizemore5961 and this “new” math is ridiculous! It doesn’t teach logic; instead, it confuses children. I was helping my grandson with his homework, and he was so surprised when I showed him the easiest way to get the answer. Then I showed him how to go backwards from there to get the proof needed for the teacher to accept the answer. It’s quite mind boggling how the ones who invented this “stuff” try to act like it’s really intelligent when it isn’t!

When I was in elementary school well over half a century ago, this is the way it was. If you failed, you were held back and did not progress to next level/grade. We were terrified to be 'held back' and thus did our best to learn our lessons/do our homework. Very, very few had to be held back because we knew there would be dire consequences if we did not apply ourselves as we should . Additionally, most of the parents were like mine and would've gotten to 'the seat of the problem' in a hurry if we had brought home a failing grade.

I can tell you as a Texas Certified English teacher, the public school system here in Humble, Texas, rubber stamps the passage from one year to the next. It's sickening, and that's why I no longer waste my time teaching because my recommendations are/were ignored. It's all about passing that buck to the next teacher. It's no wonder we have high school seniors who cannot read. "Pass that kid on so he/she won't be my problem anymore." As said, that's why I no longer teach because it proved to be a waste of my time, with my recommendations being totally ignored.

God bless you, Senator Kennedy. Unfortunately, the morons running my state of Oregon got it backwards a couple of years ago. We have one of the highest per student per year expenditures in the Union, yet dismal results. We have one of the highest drop-out rates, and for those that do graduate high school some of the lowest scores determining whether those graduates are ready for college-level classes. Obviously we are a classic case that throwing more money at the problem is not the solution, though it seems are liberal state legislature doesn't get that. And in their "wisdom", a couple of years ago they lowered the bar for a high school diploma - they don't even have to competent at reading and math to get a diploma anymore. This may take care of the drop out rate, but it is certainly a huge disservice to our kids when we just sweep the real problem under our rug by passing legislation that "fixes" some of the statistics.

What’s the real problem? And how about some solutions?
@sortathesame8701
@sortathesame8701 Жыл бұрын
@@stevenhanson6057 The problem is solved by getting rid of the federal department of education! Return education to the states and hold parents responsible if their kids don't show up, disrupt class and FAIL those who do not put forth the effort needed to learn their lessons. Yes it is more difficult for some, but that doesn't mean you just pass them on without expectation! If we need to return to putting these children into special education until they catch up or graduate, then we do that. Stop making excuses for our children and start holding them to grade or age educational progression!

I quickly discerned this isn’t just about the children or transforming the entire education system into a mind control model. It is a full blown operation for the entire population to conform to one mindset and one belief system with controlled obedience, to build a global citizen workforce that operates on demand and activates through virtual and augmented reality. More importantly kids need more afformation from parents and teachers who will nurrish their natural gifts/ bents be it music , art , math , science ,etc. After the death of my wife in 06 I chose to homeschool my kids .We are missing it if we do not see what their gifts are and nurrish and encourage them. Kennedy is going to LOVE this! I know a former special ed teacher who is right now writing her doctorate on the REASONS we should stop teaching children to read beyond early educational levels as children can learn to sight read up to a certain point! When I asked what these children should do once they reach their top ability to sight read (memorize words) when they need to learn something about a topic not covered completely in school (which is almost everything an adult actually needs to live a productive life) and was told that 'we will teach them what we want them to know!"

It used to be that kids behind on a certain subject would have an hour of tutoring one once or twice a week by one of the teachers to help them catch up. Usually mostly to kids from immigrants from different countries, legal immigrants at the time or children with learning impediments. You don't dumb down education. A teachers responsibility is to teach the most possible and those lagging behind need tutoring from the school teachers or a school teacher who'll give the tutoring, during a free period. Also parents must study with their children and make sure they're doing their homework, healthy, sleeping 8hrs. Etc.

It all starts with the parents if they are ignorant so are the kids and begin committing crimes

It's not the children's fault if the parents don't do what they're supposed to do. The children shouldn't be punished for what their parents do or don't do.

@@deborahsistare7165 -- The Walking Dead comment about it starting with the Parents is actually Correct . When I was little and Young my Mother Died When I was 7 years old . When I was 4 years old I had started Kindergarten . From the time I could Walk and Talk my Mother ' held school ' . I was taught to Read and Write before I was even 3 years old . I would Read the Newspaper to my Aunt when she would come to Babysit for us kids . The Parents are the first Teachers every Child in the World will ever have , If the Parents are ignorant then their Children will be as well . If the Parents spend all of their time watching Television , then their Children will as well . As the saying goes ," The Apple does not fall far from the Tree ." Even Former President Barack Obama is on video giving a speech saying ," It all begins in the Home . Children of 2 Parent Households are more likely to be Engaged , Learn and Succeed . If the Home environment is full of Violence then those Children will grow up to be Violent ." Even Hollywood Stars have come out saying the same similar things especially Denzel Washington ," It all begins in the Home ." Watching a grown Man on a stage playing with his ' Dolls ' is entertaining for Adults and generates a lot of Wealth for himself but he says some ' messed up stuff ' . " Drinking NASCAR and Watching Beer , uh huh huh huh ." If all you and your kids do is watch NASCAR while you're drinking Beer then expect your kids to make a continuous left turn and end up back where they started , they're not going anywhere in life anytime soon . There's a time for entertainment and there's a time to be serious .

Switch to a merit base testing schedule and eliminate the grade/age pass/fail system. Pass/fail age/grade system has inherent stigmas for the student.
