What problems do you see with Gabapentin?
@mwj5368
@mwj5368 2 ай бұрын
@@KKing55 I'm only amateur and not a doctor. I took care of my aging mother and for pain they prescribed Gabapentin. She seemed to more than fall asleep a lot, it was almost like she was unconscious. I'd be driving her on short trips and her head would tilt back and her mount wide open and looked like more than sleeping. She was like that so much of the day I felt like I had lost my real mother. I know different people react differently and she was on nine different medications. I got her off it and my mother had her life back again. I mean it was terrible when she was on it. I imagine so many in nursing homes on it and they are like that, kind of a pharmaceutical lobotomy in a way. Now years later my neurologist prescribed Gabapentin and my Rheumatologist did too. I changed my mind and at the pharmacy and in consultation with the pharmacist I said before I accept this and take it home and can't return it I decided not to take it. She really pushed I take the 90 day supply and I tried to tell her no in different ways and she knew once I accepted the pills they couldn't be returned. Now I'm on 8 different medications and I'm 70. Really you're doing the right thing thinking more about Gabapentin and reason to ask a doctor. I still have my 90 day supply now several months later and haven't taken any. I want to list all of my medications here and hope the doctor can answer as with rosuvastatin for cholesterol on Carnivore Diet my cholesterol was almost normal and wanted to try harder to lose weight etc and my doctor would not back down so I quietly did not take it. I had a 75% blockage in my LAD artery in my heart and had a mild heart attack on May 3rd so for now even though I was close to normal I feel for a few months I'll be on it but regret yet another pill pushed... Besides the 8 pills I didn't mention two inhaler meds I take too... They will push pills in a mega way and I don't know why, if maybe they get a kick-back doing so. I hope you work things out well.

Dr Suneel, thank you for your outspokeness. My cholesterol is at 7. (Uk), have very high cortisol, insulin resistant and fat build up around my internal organs. I feel my liver seems to smell a certain way and it seems to get larger. My waist line and belly areas are enlarged too. My doctors have prescribed statins for the cholesterol, but I've declined. 30 years ago my Grandma was in a nursing home, she was hallucinating. My Dad called her Dr. and told him to take her off everything that wasn't necessary to keep her alive. She ended up on one drug for pain, and she returned to reality. It's shameful what they do the elderly in the name of medicine. My Grandma lived to 99 and probably would have lived longer if she wasn't put in a nursing home. If you love them, take care of them.

Some of them were for long-ago ailments that were already healed and some were just for the side effects of some others. By the time we left, she was only on her diabetes meds and one heart med.

I completely agree with everything you said in this video. I work as a geriatric certified registered nurse, and I daily advocate for my patients in their 80s and 90s. I often have to engage (fight) with different providers to review or discontinue medications. Just yesterday, I questioned one provider about why my 99-year-old patient was taking atorvastatin when their total cholesterol was only 92, and there was no history of heart disease. I love my job because I get to speak up for those who don't have a voice. Dr. Dhand, may the Lord bless you!

I'm 58 and I weaned myself off my pharmaceutical meds by researching them and then replaced them with natural supplements, except my levothyroxine. I was taking simvastatin, metoprolol, hydrochlorothiazide and levothyroxine. I researched side effects of all my meds and found that the top three side effects of my meds were all the same, so exponentially multiplying each side effect...muscle aches, joint pain and fatigue, all of which I was greatly experiencing the negative effects. I'm so much healthier mentally and physically now, my metabolic numbers are all mid average, my bp is under control, I'm walking everyday, eating a slightly tweaked carnivore diet and I've lost over 60lbs in 10 months. In a year I went from one foot in the grave to a healthy new beginning.

I've fortunate at 53, no meds, til I was just hit by double GOUT. 3RD X in 7 yrs...handled 2x on my own, nsaids sadly, no steroid prednisone until recently. I beat gout in right foot with Gouch, red onions tons of water, tart cherry and celery seed extract tincture. Injured left good foot toe crushing my bad foot around, caused stress and i.was hit by psuedo gout for first time. Nothing that worked on purine uric acid worked on Oxalates caused gout crystals that stiffened my ankle with tons of pain beyond my threshold as I had no nsaids last week. Didn't want to work my kidneys more. So with that, gout foot healing per natural means no.meds, my pseudo gout had me at urgent care no time to fight it on my own. Prednisone was given 4th day of 16 med hell cycle. 1st x So it worked...and I'm aware of the tons of side effects. My anxiety and reluctance was high but I had no choice. I'm afraid of the road ahead. Joined a prednisone group on fb. I am doing my best to stay very hydrated, eating nutrient foods at only 2 x a day. I want to lose weight not gain it 1 med at 1115am lunch, no breakfast or snacks. Just a good protein calcium potassium magnesium etc foods that pack a punch hopefully replacing what this toxic crap is killing off. I'm in bed with the enemy ...by force is how it feels. I had no choice with my wife discussing a nursing home rehab if I was unable to walk and needed better care. Sucks. Yes, I've battled sugars, cheats, comfort food time and lost, but was doing good. Good til I got dehydrated and gout struck. Curing myself felt good in such a short time until the chain reaction of pains occurred. I'm doing what I can to decrease the side many possible side effects. Blood sugar higher is 1. So no snacking. No breakfast. 1115 am meal dinner by 7 meal 100 plus oz water. No sugar drinks foods etc. Avocado bean green beans veggies eggs varieties for protein fiber potassium etc, some nuts, some cherries fruits, not many, yogurt fage %5, red onion and some cayenne and celtic salt for other minerals. .. dinner only not with med meal. Nit too spicy though. I eat spicy indeed, no tums needed as Avocado or yogurt help with any acid reflux build up. So. I applaud you for getting of those pharma toxic meds and finding better actually safer alternatives that work. After this I hope to be done with pharma. Been told my hypothyroidism could only be solved with pills. I never took them. It is high at times and mod norm ...done by diet not by their bs pills. High now from this gout experience. Was lower b4 it. Pushed pill on me again. Doc could not believe I cured gout 3x without the gout meds and steroid. til This time that is. Newtypr gout I couldn't beat. Gotta watch it going forward. But I will do better after this...lise weight, better shape, eat better with better habits. Best to you.😊

As a former hospital pharmacist it heartens me to hear a physician want to try and reduce the patient's home med list. I reviewed thousands of these lists with new admits and it's mind boggling how huge these lists are for some. I would add another one to your list is all the OTC meds. Short term? Perhaps. But IMO ppl take way too many OTC meds chronically especially the PPIs which can interfere with the absorption of many nutrients. Also the NSAIDs can interfere with renal function. They are not benign just because they are OTC. GREAT video!

Cholesterol medication is a scam. We have to have cholesterol to live. And our bodies make it if we have a healthy liver. Our brains are primarily made up of cholesterol. They lowered the “healthy cholesterol“ level to sell more statins, imo. And there is no BAD cholesterol. Each “type” has its own unique function and all of them are vital. I wonder how many Alzheimer’s patients are/ have been on statins? My mom was on them until I put my foot down. The clinical trials (also a crock) didn’t even include women.

The pharmaceutical companies control what is taught in medical schools. Medical Doctors are taught about things that will make money for Big Pharma and turn you and I into life time customers. Medication is not designed to heal you. Natural resources are.

My wife decided a few months ago to test her blood for diabetes. Her A1C was quite high -- 14 but it spiked once to 25. Her doctor put her on Metformin. Over the next two months, she started an intense exercise program, and she lost 3-4 kg (6-8 pounds). My wife only weighs about 42 kg and now is getting more issues with tingling/pains in her feet and now her hands. I am very concerned that the Metformin (currently 1000 mg but her doctor wants to increase) is burning up her fat (she now has wrinkled skin in several areas, because of her weight loss) and pushing her towards Ketosis. She doesn't know what to do and aggressively focuses on carbs, cutting most carbs out altogether. I have tried to persuade her to eat more carbs, as I want her to regain her healthy weight. But she has taken the fear mongering dished out by the medical fraternity very seriously. How do I help her gain weight? She believes the Metformin "could be" helping her pancreas to process glucose; but I worry that this drug is actually preventing her body from storing fats in the normal manner, because it forces the liver to produce less glucose. How do I help her? She refuses to try and stop the Metformin temporarily, to see if it is causing, or worsening, her bad tingling/pain/numbness in her feet, which she did NOT have, prior to taking Metformin.

Well done, Dr DHand. You are so right. My mother lived to 93 - she would have lived longer if she had not been forced to become chair-bound in a care home where she did not need to be. We rescued her but her mobility had been compromised and she had become dependent on a zimmer frame. She never took any drugs other than the occasional junior aspirin that she started in her late 80's. My family and I have the same attitude to drugs and I recently refused any medication for the NHS version high blood pressure. I have a good diet, don't smoke and have never had much alcohol in my life. I have always walked briskly, as my mother used to. .At 80, I am in the range you have indicated in your video. so my decision was correct.

After a weird hormonal issue at 42 years old, I was put on levothyroxine by an endocrinologist specialized in thyroid issues. She could never explain why I had hypothyroidism since it wasn't autoimmune (zero antibodies in my blood work, and 90%+ of cases of hypothyroidism are autoimmune). So I consulted three more doctors and they all said the same thing: keep on taking levothyroxine. It didn't make sense to me because my TSH wasn't too high, just barely above normal range before I started the medication. Also, some TSH elevation is expected when you hit middle age. So I decided to very slowly wean off my thyroid medication, always doing blood work 45 days after every successful lowering of the dose. It has been two years since I took my last dose, nothing bad happened, My T3 and T4 levels are just fine, TSH slightly elevated, and I feel great.

Ohmigosh! Thank you for the common sense. It's refreshing, rare and much appreciated. I've gone through a myriad of medications over the last 15 years. Initial blood pressure rise in my 30's. I was slim and worked out 6 days a week. Each blood pressure medication change caused me to be so tired I could barely change the sheets on my bed without needing to lay down for a couple of minutes. Final cocktail was Diltiazem, Losartan, and HCTZ. Then my blood glucose (A1C) began to shoot up. Doctor said it was my fault or I must have a family member who was diabetic. ?? I began putting on weight, muscle loss, and fatigue. Dentist said my mouth showed signs of dehydration, my eye doctor said my eyes showed signs of dehydration but no signs of diabetes. At this point I was on Janumet and Venlafaxine for blood sugar and hot flashes in addition to the 3-pill cocktail for blood pressure. One day, after a morning of yard work (my yard is 1/4 acre), I collapsed. I was able to crawl into the shower, cool down, started sipping water, until I could get myself upright. Then I began my self-education. When the doctor refused to stop prescribing the medications or reconsider what they were doing to me, I stopped taking them on my own and reported such. He put in my medical notes that I was non-compliant. After realizing that each medication caused an unacceptable "side-effect" which prompted the doctor to add another pill, I began losing faith in the entire healthcare system. I have changed physicians three times now. What is this tendency to "phone it in" rather than have a good look at what I'm telling them? I had also received a letter from my health insurance stating that the doctor prescribed me medication for a reason and that I should take it or risk losing coverage. At this point, I was just paranoid enough to think that the pills were "designed" to cause these side effects to encourage more prescriptions. 1. HCTZ raises blood glucose levels, risk of dehydration and skin damage. 2. Venlafaxine raises cholesterol or changes the ratio; Dr. prescribed Atorvastatin and Pioglitazone. The black-box warning labels scared me to pieces. I did not take them. I'm still taking Diltiazem and Losartan, which I'll research and revisit in future days. My blood glucose has leveled out, my blood pressure is good, and my cholesterol levels have dropped and the ratio has corrected. My dentist has noticed a difference and my eye doctor reports that my vision has improved over the last two visits. I am now 65 years old, much improved, but think I could feel better. My dog and I have adventures ahead of us. Thank you so much for your educated and common-sense approach. (Sorry about rambling but I knew you would get what I'm saying.)

In my 20s I had a severe dizzy spell that sent me to the doctor. He claimed my blood pressure was low, needed elevation and prescribed fen-phen. I wasn't overweight or carrying any health risks. No pharmacist knew of the drug at that time, so they could not tell me about side effects. I never took the tabs. Forward 15 years and I see a class action lawsuit against the manufacturers of fen-phen, on Game Show Network. It caused primary pulmonary hypertension, heart valve and neuropsychological damage. Talk about feeling like I dodged a bullet.. I'm alive and healthy at 47 and not on any meds. EDIT: My grandmom followed the science for 16 years, when the initial research came out, touting aspirin as a preventative med for blood clots, strokes and heart attacks. After 16 years of daily doses of baby aspirin, she was taken off of it because the science now showed it caused kidney damage and hers weren't spared. She died of kidney failure. My trust in much of "the science" has been rocked at its core.

I have had Parkinson’s Disease for over 15 years. The motor and non-motor symptoms list is long and varied. It is really easy to take the meds that ones primary care doctor or neurologist are willing to pass out to help with the symptoms. However, each med has a list of side effects of its own. I have gone from 6 meds to 2 - and I take very little of those two. Lately they suggested I take an SSRI for depression. I did my research and watched Dr. Dhand. I will exercise more instead. My mother just passed away at age 101. Her LDL, for her entire adult life, was over 300. She never took a statin. When she died she was on one Thyroid drug. That’s it

Couldn’t agree more. I saw patients on dozens of medications where many were interacting with others. I told my patients that if you have a complaint every time you see your doctor they will give you another pill for that and EVERY pill has a side effect you may not like at all. A pill is not the answer to every ailment! We need to treat the whole person body, mind, and soul. Many times just listening goes a much longer way in the healing of the mind and the body. This is something that has changed dramatically in today’s rushed and apathetic world. I feel for seniors today because caring is in short supply and the greed of pharmaceutical companies is great. Seniors are much more sensitive to side effects than most.

Back in the mid 90's I was put on Paxil. Didn't notice any difference until one day I was driving to visit an Uncle. My first extended solo interstate drive after starting it. Had trouble staying awake. On the way back I stopped in a rest area and took a nap. Within 20 miles of getting back on the road I was once again drifting off. Took an exit and finished the trip on winding mountain type road. All the curves kept me awake. Just took myself off cold turkey with no problem. Years later I started taking Lexapro. Again really didn't notice any difference so I quit it, also cold turkey. That was a mistake. The what I've heard called brain flashes were bad for a few weeks. At least in my case the things weren't needed. My sense of depression came more about what I was doing, meaning my attitude about my activities. Now on the plus side of 70 I sometimes start feeling a bit depressed. Instead of turning to medications I get off my backside and start doing things. Enjoyable stuff like playing my guitar or drudgery like mowing or clearing brush, it doesn't matter. Depression goes away almost immediately.

I wish they were readily available in my place. Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. He's constantly talking about killing someone. He's violent. Anyone reading this Familiar w/ BPD know if it is common for an obsession with violence.

❤thank you for videos like this one. I am 66 and don't know how to do old age. With videos like this, it helps. I have been diagnosed with systemic lupus, severe depression and severe PTSD. Doctors want to load on the meds, but I tell them no. I eat healthy whole foods, stretch more and bought some weights and a walking pad. I have had to make my old lady life adjustments. I eat differently and get plenty of rest. I do crafties so I don't get board and still take some kind of educational classes. I'm not perfect, but I'm not giving up and I let my doctors know that I'm running this and if I say no to medication that has side effects that sound scary, it's a no thank you for me. They tried to put me on blood thinners, lacics, and others. I said no. I took a class in herbalism, got my diploma and am on my way to becoming a nutritionist,so I know how to feed myself. These doctors and the pharma industry should be charged with something. I'm getting older but I'm still a human being, not here for experimentation. We should not have to worry about being merchandise for these big companies in bed with these doctors. I'm never going to give up my power. Thank you again, I love your channel ❤

My previous 'dr' recommended, then insisted (after I refused his recommendation) that I have some type of a cardiac injection (s) to lower triglycerides & LDL, which using my common sense, told him of strict diet & lifestyle change(s), yet he still insisted that the injections would be the best & safest route! 🤣 This was 3 1/2 years ago, & I've got a new Dr. that respects my refusal of meds., and those triglycerides & LDL numbers continue to fall slowly & naturally 😊❤

Thank you for your enlightening videos! I have Major Depression, anxiety and PTSD. At one point I started having a tremor in both hands, worse in my dominant hand. I saw a few neurologists and was referred to a motion disorder clinic that ultimately told me that I would need deep brown stimulation surgery. 😳 I was pretty desperate because I'm a jeweler and need fine motor skills (I'm in my 50's), but then the hellish lockdowns started. It was them that I started having flashbacks to childhood abuse and neglect, I had never realized I had complex PTSD! I researched treatment options and learned about Stellate Ganglion Blocks. It was amazing how much it helped. I was finally free from binge eating and disassociating, my old childhood coping skills. I was so excited I slowly started getting off all psych meds and lo and behold my trimmer improved dramatically, it was a side effect of medication all along. My providers all knew what medications I was on and what their side effects were, but they were flummoxed and thought brain surgery was the answer. 🙄 Another Medical issue occurred due to gadolinium toxicity. I don't know why it is legal to inject a heavy metal into a person. I don't think the benefits as a contrast medium outweigh the risks. I blindly trusted that having an MRI with contrast was the only way. I started getting neuropathy in both my feet years ago and without realizing it after having 37 ml injected over the span of a couple of decades the neuropathy moved very quickly from my toes all the way up to my trigeminal nerve in my jaw. My rheumatologist was very concerned that it might affect my breathing or heart. I went to a different neurologist and of course on top of a spinal tap, he ordered a contrast lumbar MRI. Within days afterwards I was bed bound for 4 months. I was so desperate I really wanted to just die. In my frantic search for answers the neurologist dropped me from his practice. Fortunately, I have a wonderful naturopath who ordered a toxic element urine test and I found out I had over 800 times the amount of catalinium in my body than I should have. I filed a report with the FDA and of course that got me nowhere, they really could have cared less. I read the FDA"s medicine guide for gatavist and realized that I was not given proper informed consent. They only give you page 42 or 43, the last page of the document, but page 6 paragraph 2 says that anyone with an inflammatory condition will retain gadolinium even if they have normal kidney function. Now why wouldn't they put that on the sheet they hand the patient so they can make an informed decision? I think of all the people with MS and other autoimmune diseases who have toxic levels of gadolinium in their body and they don't even know it. I have had 30 IV caDTPA chelation sessions and I still have toxic levels in my body. Fortunately, the neuropathy is only in my lower calves down to my toes, but it's still an issue, a painful issue. It's cost me over $15,000 for these treatments and tests, all out of pocket because the insurance company will pay to have a poison injected into you, but the people that will take it out of you don't take insurance so it's all out of pocket. It's absolutely shocking that it is also found in drinking water because so many people have been injected with out and have peed it out into the environment. So now I'm stuck drinking it. It's a real tragedy, a hidden tragedy that none of my doctors knew about, I always educate anyone who will listen on the dangers of gadolinium. I'm hoping to buy a far infrared sauna to try to get the rest of it, and other toxins like lead, uranium, cadmium and a bunch of others that showed up on the urine test. We live in such a toxic world. We are perfectly made and big pharma and the medical industrial complex is only concerned about the bottom line and filling their pockets. I am a former radiographer so I knew all about gadolinium, but no one ever mentioned the dangers of it. I just finished a continuing education reading on the subject and this journal article stated that gadolinium stays in your body for 8 years regardless of an inflammatory condition, so personally I believe what is being done in the name of medicine is pure evil. Your video caught my eye because I am on a lot of medications and I'm not even 60 yet. I'm on disability because of my autoimmune disease. I have already discontinued taking neurontin and a statin, I am working on getting off as much as possible. What are your thoughts about biologic injections? I am on Simponi and it scares me when I read the side effects. Fortunately, I am no contact with my childhood abuser now, and I just divorced my abusive husband of almost 32 years. My goal is to find healthy ways to cope, eat well, exercise and try again to get off all psych meds. I really don't think they help much at all anyway. If you've gotten this far, thanks for reading. I hope by sharing my experiences with medicine that I may help someone else avoid brain surgery or idiopathic neuropathy, tinnitus and sensitivity to light. Keep speaking the truth, good doctor!

So weaning off and taking my BP about 6 times a day while titrating. The more meds I get off the better I feel. I am doing it all with caution but imagine being on a hike and dehydrated and starting BP is already low.

This Dr. is absolutely right with what he is saying. Sometimes the side affects are worse then the reason a patient is taking a pill in the first place. Natural medicine is much better I found out. Cold sore medication for example. They take one week to work. If I get a cold sore, I just put some oil of Origano on it once, and it is gone.

Also with the depression thing you get convinced it’s working when it may be partially or completely placebo and won’t solve anything. At least for me- still it helped but really gotta weigh the positives and negatives. It didn’t solve existential issues just numbed me to it. Now I feel it more deeply but I would take that over the cloudy mindset I lived with for a decade.

Your common sense approach to medicine is refreshing! I had a doctor a few years ago, boy was she GOOD! One day she told me about all this trouble she was in because she REFUSED to increase a patient's insulin AND sign off on a motorized scooter (so insurance would cover the cost) when this patient had not done ANYTHING to help herself in lowering her weight and therefore not need as much insulin, etc... so she "discharged" the patient from her care and gave her a list of doctors that she could follow up with. WELL, being in a HUGE medical organization, the patient called the "HEADS" and was claiming that she was being abused and she was going to sue, blah, blah....they called my doctor to get "her side" she tells the basics of leading up to the discharge and say this, "if we are physicians that should DO NO HARM...how am I to do so when this patient just wants to keep relying on medicine and equipment for quality of life and not take any of my medical advice to heart?...I CANNOT successfully treat this patient, they won't listen to me, I have offered free weight loss counseling, literature about their condition and how they can improve their situation and all they have done is dismiss it all. So I am removing myself because I do not wish to have this patient die on my watch. They agreed with her and the patient was told to go elsewhere. We cannot rely on the medical establishment to FIX EVERYTHING! We have to DO OUR PART too! And we must be our own advocate when it comes to our personal healthcare. Thank you again Dr. Dhand for an insightful video.

It’s an absolute joy to hear a doctor that actually cares. I had so e blood tests done and straight away my doctor tried to get me on statins. I knew what was coming as I already had the test results sent to me as well as the doctor. I was just on the good side of my cholesterol being high, so I did a lot of research on cholesterol. When my doctor phoned me to discuss my results, I had all the answers and also a few questions that I asked. The end result was I’ll have another blood test in a years time to see how I’m doing. I really do believe that doctors get an incentive to prescribe some medications. I understand a few life choices can be the difference between going on medication and not. I don’t like the thought of chemicals in my body unless it’s absolutely necessary. We’ll see next year if they’re still pushing for me to take drugs. Great content and clear and concise information. Thanks.
