From the specs, it's a truly unique and amazing lens, image area's larger than "35mm FX" so no vignetting and sharp right into the corners. As one would quite possibly need to stop down to get many portraits in the focal plane, it would be great to compare it to the 70-200 2.8 S at 135... I'm waiting to see how some photographers use the 135/1.8 in a creative way... Interesting. Thanks to all 3 of you for uploading. 😊

The portraits feel so dreamy due to the creamy background blurring. ❤

What interested me after I got mine last week, is how different its looks are vs. a DX-cropped 85/1.2 (which gives you a nearly identical angle-of-view and depth-of-field, 20Mpix are still plenty, and with the fast Z8/9 getting a bit more light is not an issue). I think it produces a noticeable different bokeh - calmer, no swirls, even vs. cropping the stronger swirls at the 85/1.2's border. And this really sets it apart vs. just "cheating with the 85", but it's a hefty investment + additional weight/lens to carry around.

That’s exactly why I’m going to buy Plena for a new wedding season even though I already have 85/1.2.

Absolutely exactly what this lens would be perfect for. Outdoor portraits and events, as well as indoor use where you are further from the subject.

:) Hello the three of you, I do think this will be one more winning lens from Nikon. As Kon say at 135mm you need a good sized studio to do full length portrait images, That is not a problem its just the focal length. great third person camera work.

Somehow It shows up that my best photos are taken with 135mm. Particularly with Nikkor-Q 135mm/2.8 (preAi) . I think I could manage Plena too.🤣

A comparison with the 85 1.2 and the classic 105 1.4 would be good. I own the latter and think it'd be pretty close?

Nice, and great for those with $2500 to spend. (How long will it take before that extra stop pays for itself?) I just did some amazing portraits with my $80 Nikkor 135 2.8 AI lens on my d750 wide open. Beautiful bokeh, very sharp, lovely colors; would be hard-pressed to see the "need" for a 1-stop, faster, much heavier lens.

@randallbrander8157
@randallbrander8157 10 ай бұрын
@@xmanreturn I have the SmallRig L-Bracket Grip which helps tremendously and the lens weighs less than the Z 85mm F/1.2 S. With the grip and having your left hand underneath the camera and there will be no problem. On a tabletop tripod just make sure the front leg is under the lens or you will see gravity working. Cheers!

Too bad this wasn't a 105mm (135mm is too "long" for me). So I'm still going to use the Nikon F 105mm f1.4.

In my experience Z F/1.8 S are superior to the F Mount Classic lens. It depends on the character and picture quality that you are going for. If you still have a DSLR than your lens is Fantastic. If you have a Zed mirrorless camera than rent it and compare. Cheers!

Thanks @randall. I too have the Z50 and for what I do this lil’ camera really produces fantastic images. I mount Voightlander 40|2 and 58|1.4 f mount with fantastic results straight out of camera. I also have the Z 24-70|2.8s which give results that near identical to full frame offerings especially in day light. I find a tweak in vibrancy and color this camera never fails to deliver. I may go full frame eventually but I’m more than happy what it delivers. Feed it good glass!

As a child back in the day my father gave me a Canon F1, a 35mm, 50mm and 135mm Canon glass and all the Agfa CT18 transparency film I could shoot. It taught me how to problem solve and the need to be creative, slide film is so unforgiving. No fancy zooms back then, or not up to the quality of primes, and non of this telephone number ISO to dig you out of a hole.

Looks so tempting, but I already have the 85/1.2 & Sigma 135/1.8 Could you do a comparison of the Plena, the 85/1.2Z, and the F-mount 105/1.4's from Nikon and Sigma, and the Sigma 135/1.8 I know that's asking a bit, but even some comparison shots of an identical target in the shop would be very helpful 🙂 Any word from Ricci on the 35/1.2 he's not allowed to talk about? 😊

Bought the Plana, tested it against my Sigma 135 and saw that it's not a night and day difference. Don't get me wrong, the Plena is a beautiful lens with great rendering. But if 135mm isn't a staple focal length for you, I think it best to save money because the Sigma is not far behind in image quality. I'm coming from a wedding photographer's POV so I only use 135mm for ceremonies and speeches during reception. Really waiting on the 35mm f1.2!

I agree with Rushhour88, I have both lenses and the main difference is the weight and AF speed. The bokeh is rounder but really who cares.

@@RejeRush I see that comparisons between the Plena and 135 Sigma Art have been done by Cameralabs and dariuszbres (Poland) and while the results are similar (Plena focuses faster, has slightly less vignetting and has slightly better Bokeh) questions remain regarding uniformity of sharpness across the image frame and distortion. Perhaps Grays can find a brick wall or other similar target where that can be examined? Also many reviewers seem to think that everyone uses the Photoshop/Lightroom ecosystem. Some comments on in-camera corrections would be most helpful. Capture One users might also like to know if the new Nikons are supported. Thank you 🙂

@@RetiredEEGreat statement as I didn’t think about people not using the the Adobe ecosystem as you mentioned. In honesty I do find that wall test may be a little useless depending on the genre of photography. For me corner to corner sharpness with no vignetting isn’t necessary as I mainly photographing people and welcome a little character in lenses. Now if you’re a product photographer that’s a different story. But it’ll be great to have those tests done for photogs that’ll benefit from said tests.
@RejeRush
@RejeRush 10 ай бұрын
@@greggoryburt7919Yea, when it comes to sharpness the Sigma held up VERY well against the Plena. Your evaluation in the lack of vignette and rounder bokeh in the corners is correct. Also the Sigma images had a warmer color in comparison.

How about Z7II or the Zf?
@baxtermarrison5361
@baxtermarrison5361 10 ай бұрын
@@randallbrander8157 For me it is more relevant to test the F glass on an F-mount camera rather than testing it via an adapter. I guess using the Zed 7ii or Zed F would serve as an alternative to either the Zed 8 or Zed 9, but testing on multiple Zed bodies would only serve to highlight the difference in the image processing in the cameras as they are all basically the same sensor, or in the case of the Zed F an updated 24mp sensor, with a few back-end tweaks. If you have already upgraded the body and you are looking to upgrade the glass then the comparison is less relevant than if you have not yet updated either camera and glass.
