We had a slight dusting of rain and decided to pull out the Polaris Rangers. Follow along.

Great vid... I had to move from Hill st. last year because of pulmonary edema and you guys are my connection to Mammoth. It is gods country. Do more of the Ranger exploring... I thought I knew every hot spring out there... but I never came across that one. Just proves there's so much to experience/explore, even multiple times... Mountain rain is the best, ozone from the lightening and the aroma from the plants are exquisite. Sadie and Bud are your super stars of your vids...

Looks fun. Just a note. A monsoon doesn’t mean heavy rain, it’s more associated with a shift in winds causing either a very wet season and even a very dry season. Mostly in Asia

I was gonna try to get down there BY TOMORROW (7/24) coz there's a hella monsoon moisture coming up from Mexico and I wanted to be in Mammoth for the ridiculous rain and thunder. Alas, had to back up the trip down and now I'm gonna miss the excitement; the next 10 or so days is gonna be pretty benign weather down there.

8:00 That's one o' the places I wanted to reach last time I was down there -- east end of the Resurgent Dome behind the airport. Guess I need a Ranger if that's ever gonna happen. BTW, is there a good enough road to the top of Lookout Mtn to take a crossover to the top? I wanna try that next time I'm down too, maybe in the next week or so.

14:58 You ain't lyin'. That's a sketchy area of Hot Creek GTA. Back in the early 70s there were places we could soak ialong Hot Creek in relative safety; since the early 80s when they had all those M6+ earthquakes the entire system has shifted around and now you have no idea which will be the next spot to shoot up like a geyser. Anymore I'm a little nervous around Hot Creek.

17:40 With all the calcium carbonate around the area that percolates upward from the geothermal activity there, I wouldn't be surprised if it was simply calcium carbonate. Thing is there's a lot of ash, pyroclastic flows and tephra lying around up there and so without some hydrochloric acid to drop on it you don't really know what it is. Either way, it's a gold mine for cement conglomerate to make concrete.
