Hey snowman, just a thought for you, if you drop the plow half way down and top it off to open it up it will be way easier on the whole rig, I don't understand why you would have an issue plowing a call in ,it's all pennies from heaven and you get to scoop them up and fill your pockets, plow smarter, not harder. I'm watching this video and others to learn about plowing. I have a few questions; how much would a pro charge for the driveway in the video, with the snow pictured? Also, which is better for plowing, a diesel PU or HD w big gas engine? I realize that the truck in video is a 1/2 ton, (and it does quite well), just wondering what is the best plowing PU for a pro that will do 24 hours straight in a blizzard, several times a year. Also, best plow brand? Sorry if I'm opening a can of worms, I just figured that there are some pros on this thread. Thanks in advance.

I will tell you this!!! It all depends on what you are using it for. Your own use or commercial plowing. I will say this from my 25 years plus plowing commercial, own use and plowing for a local City! Buy a good used truck, older plow with mechanical cables or simple switch control. With a welder you can make any plow fit any truck. Buy quality used to start out it will save you in the long run! I have 2 plow trucks 1991 and 1993 Chevy 1500 ( Chevy trucks of this era you can tighten the torsion bars down to beef up the front ends for the weight of the plow) with a Boss RT1 V Blade and an old Fisher Minute Man 7.6 straight blade from the mid 80's and both work great. I plowed commercial with them till 2019 They still are in use plowing on my own driveway. They are showing there age on the trucks but the plows are still in good shape for another truck!
@michaelatoz580
@michaelatoz580 3 жыл бұрын
In my job at the City the new plows I hate the hand held push button control and the wire hook up outside the truck I always have trouble with them! Just a point to ponder cutting edges are a 2 to 5 hundred dollars plus and bolts will run you another 50 to 100 dollars. I can blow through a set in one winter. That is easy to do!

Tough ploughing job I ever had to do was a private road that was somewhat hilly and the snowfall had happened 2 or 3 weeks earlier and had refrozen. The association and owner of the property called me and wanted to have a ploughed it was the 1st time customer. Apparently other contractors refused to take on the job because the road was frozen. But I took it on with a 1982 Dodge W150 with a ton of trap rock in the bed and studded tires all the way around And I managed to clear that road but it was tough.

Great video. Although I do not quite understand why you complained that the customer 'waited' 2 additional days to call you. You seemed to indicate that the customer incurred a higher fee because he waited. So why complain? Everyone won in this situation. You got paid more for the deeper snow, increased workload, increased wear and tear on your equipment. The customer wins because they were able to procrastinate yet still get the driveway cleared. The only reason I see to complain is if you actually DIDN'T charge more but you do not want to blame yourself so the customer is the next best thing. As a small business owner this seems to be something you should expect from customers-because customers do things like this.....
