Thanks for the video! Just wanted to mention that you seem to have chosen different compressor styles between UAD and PA. "Old" (UAD) = "F.B." (PA). You seem to (at least on some) have chosen "Old" on the UAD while not having pressed the F.B. knob on the PA version. Just wanted to let you know. One is Feedforward and the other is Feedback.

Also it appears the Lindell has Eq before dynamics and the UAD has it after dynamics. I think we might be hearing those differences the most.

@@bradnewsom6058 Ah, this might explain the biggest differences I'm hearing. The UAD sound more focused and more narrow. The PA breathes wider and brighter.

Cool comparison! I think the real star of the PA is the 2500 compressor, and the fact you can choose 3 different EQs. I will say I preferred the characteristics of the UAD with regards to saturation, but I'd be willing to be it'd be closer if you turned up the THD on the PA. Anyways, i'm super stoked I just got the PA version with my bundle :) Cheers

Speak for yourself. One sounded better to me. It's not a universal truth, but at least it's not a universalist lie like "no better or worse just different". The moment someone decides to use one plugin on their mix instead of another they've judged that plugin as better in that moment for that purpose - not just different - so please spare us the meaningless, vapid platitudes. I'm perfectly happy spending some of my time obsessing about finding the best tools for my craft; much happier than if I slept on something which in hindsight I wish I'd been aware of. Maybe you should take your own advice? Surely someone not obsessing about plugins wouldn't be wasting their holy time on an API plugin shootout?

Plugin Alliance is brighter but honestly they both sound good. I like the price of the plug in Alliance plugins though

Did you have the 50 on oversampling? Oversampling provides a little more richness and depth.

I prefer PA and as you will use more channels at the same time plus the busses the cumulative effect will get bigger and you will get more width similar to analog summing thanks to that TMT, I guess you didn't turn of oversampling, which would also give u more depth and clearer bass

Too much Oversampling will smear overall depth, image and punch. It will also change the impact of THD; natural nature of overdoing oversampling and the algorithm quality. I think you sound do another test with 2x or 4x and see which one sound better. Do this and I bet you get a lot more Lindells over UADs👂🏾

The PA to me is more modern sounding but UAD is probably closer to the original sound of the hardware. Good comparison!

Thanks for video! Lindell 50 compressor kills the kick drum...completely... Does it have an internal side chain to prevent low frequency to be compressed?

Yes! Just press the yellow button. 😉 Niveau (NIV.) Adds a filter on the side chain to compress less the low frequencies and more the high frequencies. This helps to keep a natural frequency response after compression.

especially in the mix section its obvious how much more room information the Lindell renders, allthough in singel intruments especially on Bass I kind of liked the UAD a bit more. I have the lindell and love it on drums. So I won't bother getting UAD. Not possible anyway because its locked to UAD.

That separate DSP functionality ×2 s the Digital feel of the plugins anyway The Analog Modeling is ruined by UAD having to Digitally function from 2 platforms instead of the Direct Functionality of Plugin Alliance So plugin alliance is always gona sound more analog and less harsh

To people saying the PA is better. Listen to the transients. Also, listen for aliasing. It's most obvious in the E Guitar wow part, the UAD is much smoother. The transients on the classic guitar are way better on the UAD. On the final mix, the PA sounds compressed and the highs harsh compared to the UAD. Listen with good headphones or monitors and it's really obvious to me at least.

strange - Lindell is a more expensive plugin, and with oversampling. The old UAD shouldn't be competing at all..

Great comparison. That part where you compare the whole mix and switch between both is killer. I’m a huge PA user, but in this case to me the UAD is the winner. It has more body, more elegant top end with no harsh on it, and mids are more present on the UAD version. PA sounds a little more weak or empty this time but it’s still a really good option. Is there any chance you compare the API eqs by waves and the 2500 by waves with the PA and UAD channel strip? Would be a really nice API battle.

Tonality are very similar between them. If you could include the CPU meter (without UAD DSP Acceleration) to see which one is more efficient it would be appreciated.

If you remove UAD's DSP form the equation, then you will use 0% of your CPU. And you will also use 0 plugins. You can't run the API vision channel strip without offloading it entirely to UAD hardware. That's one of the advantages of using UAD plugins, IMO. Your CPU is totally unaffected when running those plugins. Some people will say this is the reason why the DON'T use them, but I suspect they must have excellent PCs. However, UAD recently released Spark, which introduced UA native plugins for the first time, but I don't believe the API vision is available on Spark right now.

UAD is closer to what an API Legacy channel sounds like. It had more bottom end presence smooth high end and heft in the middle. With the signature punchy vibe. Both are good but UAD wins imho

Good method, really. UAD and PA is incredibly close but the truth is that a comparision is close to impossible to be produced in "fair" with both strips set to "unity". when you try to "match" both settings you don't have a real fine tuning and probably 1.5 in UAD is not the same 1.5 in PA. Anyway "the tone" is different in both plugins and for what i can hear from a 320kbps compressed audio stream ... seems that UAD has more "linear" and balanced eq's expecially highs and mids and lows are more stable and focused and the punch is clear, like an API. PA sounds like a bit harsh on highs and this have an influence on mids and lows that sounds less focused and the punch is not the same. i this case i prefer UAD but, honestly... at the end of the day, even this difference have a taste. Bye.

PA is pretty good sounding, but UAD have mutch more body and smother hi end. PA is more bright, but is kinda thin and over agressive. I like PA but to my taste UAD is by far more pleasant to my ears.

I actually prefer the Lindell 50. to UAD as Lindell 50 had a deeper more saturated base.. other then that they where extremely close! Bad new for the super expensive aged UAD PCI product.. another proof of an aging slow hardware product..

Well Lindell is more expensive 350. And the newer one - not surprised it's better . Can also do oversampling, which UAD cannot with it's old DSP.
