Now having and working with the 9099, I can definitely say it would be a huge revitalization of the previous console plugins to update them with a few of the features that the 9099 has. Particularly the listening frequency alt-click and the widener, it feels like it would be worth it to pay for an upgrade and do a v2 of some of these. They really add a lot to the speed of the workflow of using channel strips where they make sense in a mix.

i learned how to work big consoles on the 9098i's at my recording school. the virtual dynamics also show up on other amek consoles like the media 51 console (a very underrated board that had some neve involvement) i always thought that it was controlling the fader vca's.

Amazing work Dirk, I'm using the plugin since yesterday eve, it sounds great, that sheen and glowing buttons are big plusses. For certain genres, I wouldn't use this on rock, it's too clean for that. Sometimes I used the Focusrite SC for brightness, but that one will be replaced now. Normally I use the same high end wav files, just opening the plugin, made me like, wow. I use for a time the BX-EQ_2098 with full pleasure, this has also the sheen and Glow possibility. Premium tools.

Do the BX consoles model the distortion from each console? Or is the THD just an arbitrary flavor of THD added in for color? If we were to use each strip zeroed out, and just add THD from the selector, is it the same THD in all the plugins?

D/A Converter on every channel on a console or a single converter at sum makes maybe the difference in quality. TMT is quite innovative to bring that back byside analog saturation to digital but is also brilliant on mono material as well. Just an engineering reminder for using the unlink option on a final compressor / limiter to let the tmt stereo shine, the differences between the left and right channel are sounding naturally because physically a sound source is either located more left or right and tmt focusing on it could just relax the brain to compensate for that abstraction but not perceived as a sustained sound only at some points in the spectrum. Maybe with the lookahead to keep that phase changes minimal as the mixdown will be squashed by final limiters and maximisers, which changes the image anyway. It shapes the spectrum but in a very pleasant way. It is something different than panning it happens internally with the timbre of the sound. It is hard to explain but there is still a difference between panning/timbre/ambience and actually the minimal phase signature of when the difference happens. More than panning it happens when the sound happens but other than panning the difference is located at the phase on either left or right channel. It is is very difficult to locate the correct phase where it 'sounds good' when there is a constant stream of audio. It is important that it happens to the body of the sound and not the attack initial transient because it is better to leave that part which is quite important for dance/EDM genres or a rolling psy trance baseline as example. (the linear phase is important to shape the sound, but quite looses its importance in coloring the sound with phase/dispersion/saturation.) with a thin layer of thd to bring up the nuances of a hard worked eq ed low end to earphones which are almost unheard otherwise brings up the craft to bass / drums heavy music. It is quite important to have a less dynamic low end, not just low-shelf Ing it. phase or tmt nuances just make sense above 500 Hz that is also where the meat lies (500 - 5000 Hz) and vocal and lead sounds base and compression is applied to reduce the dynamic range just below the the bell curve of drum separation somewhere between 200 - 300 Hz. Compressors bring up the ambience which is sealed within a sound it is a very creative effect to bring that back as a proximity effect. That ambience is less like the fast forward in your face, it is more like opto /feedback compression ambience and fatness as this kind of dynamic processor looks for its output.

Dirk says he likes the preamp of this console (see around 1:53) yet he doesn’t give us the ability to use the preamp… Please on the next console give us the ability to use the preamps both just as a saturation tool and as a proper preamp (similar to the Waves 1073 Scheps plugin)

This Amek was considered by many top engineers to be the best Neve ever made😁. But this console suffered a major design flaw as it was overheating to the point of failure. We had one in our Montreal National broadcast station recording studio and 2 of my fellow engineers friends who work there told me they had to strip it down and actually run an air conditioning conduit inside the console.😁. And this console was full time maintenance. But...Great sounding console and very flexible. I just wonder in our age of " digital workflow " if a reproduction of the ancient 😏 process of turning tons of knobs with a mouse and not having the option to use the now common graphic representation of Eq spectrum or compressor or gate visual thresholds is the way to go. I still work with our API LegacyPlus 48 with lots of gear. But I cannot mix with that stuff anymore. My clients want instant " 1 dB more on the voice at 3:22 and less reverb on the puch at 2:34 and more bass when the snare hits on the words " Come on !" ... And you all know the drill. I am sure that these Amek plugins sound great. I am not sure about keeping its presentation and knobs turning old fashion way for controlling the parameters. But that is me...😏

@@PluginAllianceTV Well as an old 60 yo 😏 engineer still working with the real stuff I do appreciate how beautiful and certainly amazingly good sounding is your Amek digital version. And I expressed my opinion with all the respect you deserve for your great achievement. I see SSL and API going the same way. It is a great idea now that affordable computers can finally put out the processing power you needed to build a reliable, accurate and efficient digital " replica". My only concern is about the workflow and how the younger generation is used to get fast visual feedback and easy control of all the parameters. Could that be a dealbreaker for some users ? Would it be feasible to have a pop-up alternative graphic screen for each module like some SSL plugins I own ? Thanks for the kind reply ! Best Regards, Bob

@@Zenvo-uu9tm Good one..😁 Some Neve VR series had serious heating issues also ... Rupert was a hot guy and therefore the " warmth " sounding designs... As for the plugins, with the next generations of processors and AI capabilities, I beleive we will indeed emulate overheating circuits and caps failure. 😁
@arthurmee3 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. J think this approach to making plugins, will (fade pun intended) in the next decade or two as new generations of engineers come of age with no experience of large analogue consoles will not want what is the current perverse tendency to emulate the look and interface of old analogue gear.

Dirk we now have so many TMT modeled channel strips how about now producing a MIDI controller like SSL UC1 (less the buss compressor) so we can stop using the mouse and looking at the screen. Many of your modeled plug-ins have similar layout so they can be operated by one controller. SSL have shown how it can be done… Please give us a controller 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽👍🏽
