What is the power consumption.. How economical when compare to Diesel Vehicle. ???
@pluginIndia
@pluginIndia 8 жыл бұрын
The P8 flavor, will consume around 14 units of electricity if u charge from 0 to 100%. Assuming Rs 6 per unit. You will spend Rs 84 and go unto 140 km. Definitely more economical than a Deisel hatchback. More importantly - no PM 2.5 emissions are emitted in our cities and we don't use imported oil, that burdens our country.

No, it won't be, if you take degradation of battery into account (which EV companies don't take speak about). Let's face it, batteries wont last for eternity. The cost of 15 kWh battery pack can be around INR 3 lakhs (it may need a 14 units to charge, but the battery has a size of 15 kWh). I assume that, they can procure li ion cell at around $ 200-$230 per kWh. The rest would go into manufacturing, supply chain and BMS. The battery can last around 1000 cycles roughly. So, a battery can last around 140*1000=140000 km). So, the cost to run 140000 km will be around 300000+84*1000=384000, i.e. INR 2.74/km. Alto diesel boast a mileage of 27 km per litre (ARAI certified). A litre of diesel cost INR 54 in NCR. So, it will be INR 2/km. But yes, it will be more economical than the petrol variant. Again, this calculation has a few assumptions though. A lot money is spent for maintenance of engines (oil change and filter change).Electric Drive trains don't need much maintenance. I haven't taken that into account. Also, if you drive in a busy city, certainly the mileage of a diesel car will get degraded much more in comparison to the degradation of mileage in a electric car, since Electric motors won't consume power while it is idle in traffic and it regenerates energy while braking. Taking these into account, gap would certainly reduce and in certain optimistic conditions both would cost approximately same. Also, I have assumed that there will be no change in price of battery and petroleum. Analysts predict that the cost of li ion cells will be decreasing at a rate of 15% per annum (due hike in demand and reduction of supply chain). So, after a few years the battery can be cheaper (if Mahindra invests a bit more thoughts and brains). So, it depends a lot on how you use it. If you are always in the limits in your city and your battery last for at least 5 years. The cost of battery would be reduced and it might be actually cheap as shit but Mahindra needs to invest a lot in optimizing battery cost in that period.

Sudeepta Das what about the pollution that a diesel vehicle does.... Even though the best pollution control norms come into the scene....
@sudeeptadas3609

@PlugIn Caroo, that's an optimistic scenario! Moreover, 780,000 is 1.5 times 580,000 and after 10 years, battery may have to be replaced. Additional cost will be incurred there. Moreover, 140 km range is provided by the model P8 costing around INR 8.46 lakhs at New Delhi (post state subsidy and FAME). People won't be getting any other subsidy other than FAME at any other place. Plus, 140 km range is the best range, if the vehicle is driven at the most efficient point (optimal loading and speed). In real scenario, it will be reduced to 130 km. The li-ion cells degrade in such a manner that after 500-600 cycles, its capacity will be reduced sufficiently. So, assuming that the battery will last will last for 140,000 km is a risky bet too. (Even the battery is warranted till 60,000 km). After the warranty period, the range will decrease, the performance of the car may be affected too. @indian1889 the problem with people is that people don't care about environment as much as a few enthusiasts do. Even if they understand the science, they don't understand the gravity of the situation. It's like giving people junk food and healthy food. Although, people understand that they should eat healthy food for a better health, but people will always prefer junk food, because it's easy and cheap. So, until and unless companies can give a great vehicle which comes not as a compromise but as a deal breaker in its segment, things won't change.

Thank you for this review Kamlesh ji. It's helpful. It would be a good idea, if you also are seen in the review driving the car, just having you behind the camera should no more be the trend.(Still its your choice). Truly the 110km range on P4, P6 models is a dampener. The steering could have been with audio controls, the frunk would have made a difference. For now I feel; I will continue with my standard E2O and wait for next year for model upgradations and mileage upgradations by +ME. Already the creep in Vento Automatic makes the leg pain pressing break every few seconds in Bangalore traffic, where creep is kind of not a safe option here, with bumper to bumper traffic. Just a small question, at what speed does the Regen starts in the E2Oplus....

@Mohit Tarachand - Glad u found it useful. Thanks for your suggestion, will try to get in front of the camera sometimes, although there are other people like Raphae, Farah who are waaaay better than me :) Yep. We agree. 110 km feels like a backward step. Agree again. The Creep mode sucks, if you are EV user, you would not like it. Atleast provide an option to turn it off. This is the thing bout Tesla. Everything is configurable. Here no such thing! Looks like Mahindra are pacifying the 'Petrol Head' crowd and wants more Petrol automatic drivers to drive the e2oPlus. Thus a) the new Creep Mode. b) no quirky looks c) no bright colors (Yellow, Green and Blood Red were my favorite bright colors in the classic e2o. It really made heads turn) d) No mention of the sticker/word - 'Electric Car' or 'Electric' anywhere in the car at the back. Wonder why! Maybe they dont want people to know its an 'electric' ? Anyway there are always PluginIndia stickers to solve that! :) Thanks for your support and comments.

I was looking to buy this in 2017 when there wasnt much option in ev. I bought baleno instead. I liked e2o for environment friendly but vehicle was too small. Now I am replacing baleno and going for ev where now there are many options available. I bought volvo xc40 recharge. But seeing this video feels nostlagic. I watched all the e2o videos available in youtube in 2017.

Good to see the first on-road review! What is the on-road price of the P8 variant in Pune (or Mah)? I heard that the QC plug (3 Phase 16A) is charged separately. What is the additional cost? About the creep mode - the newly launched Renault Kwid AMT does not have the creep mode so Mahindras are behind the curve on the trend! But I feel this (especially P8) is a serious car for commuting even if you don't care much about environment.... No tailpipe emissions apart, for an EV you don't have to visit a gas station and also not get the PUC check done every 6 months (it really sucks!) :)
@pluginIndia
@pluginIndia 8 жыл бұрын
Pricing is disappointing. P8 flavor will cost close to 9 Lakhs in Pune. The QC plug is found in a QC station. So you dont need one. As most homes dont have a 3-Phase power supply anyway. So u cant QC at your home. Even then Mahindra are not building QC stations, so the QC port wont get used anyway.

thanks for the review. do you guys think there will be any upcoming electric cars to India under 10Lakhs other than e20plus? saw some videos of Tata bolt ev in UK. if such kind of normal sized cars comes with ev, then people like me would jump into an ev vehicle. this doesn't look like a normal proper hatchback. that's the biggest problem. what do you guys think?

Well this is a preview. Review will be coming soon. Its the Chevy BOLT EV with 200+ mile range not TATA Bolt. That definitely is not coming to India, soon. The established Indian players like Maruti and Tata are happy selling their guzzlers, and making money, why change? They sell more cars that cause harm than good. We dont expect to see any EVs from them. The MNC's like GM, Tesla, Nissan can only enter here if they manufacture here - to sell it at a competitive price point, which is lot of investment. Companies like Nissan will product more ICE stuff here to export them to Africa and other countries. So we wont get anything from them. So that leaves Startups, who will make electric cars. There are not many. So that leaves Mahindra electric, who are launching e-Cars in India. This car is definately a small hatchback and can compete with any other like the i10 grand or Honda Brio etc.

What are options for charging these vehicles on the go? Is our government that prepared to let people drive these family cars to be on National Highways where performance and battery efficiency will matter a lot. And even if we are seeing towards it as an city commuter vehicle, is it that pocket friendly if compared to other fossil fueled cars like Maruti 800,Alto or Renault Kwid which price ranges less than half of it? Are we initiating into a already not-so successful project or vision. Hope people gets attracted towards it money wise and efficiency wise too. Hope EV's in India become a game changer in near future. Hope...

ELECTRIC CARS PRODUCE ONLY 33% OF THE CARBON FOOTPRINT COMPARED TO AN EQUIVALENT PETROL(GASOLINE) CAR. For simplicity sake I am comparing Carbon foot print calculation of Honda Civic (Petrol-Gasoline car) vs Nissan Leaf (all-Electric vehicle) taking into the account of all the energy source carbon footprint for US. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CARBON FOOTPRINT OF GASOLINE (PETROL) VERSION HONDA CIVIC FOR RUNNING 33 MILES IS 13.28 KG OF CO2 01)Amount of CO2 emitted by using 1 US Gallon (3.78Litres) in a car = 8.88 KG of CO2( Reference A) 02)Approx amount of CO2 emitted by refining 1 US Gallon (3.78Litres) = 4.4 KG of CO2( Reference B) 03)Total amount of CO2 emitted by using & refining 1 US Gallon (3.78Litres) = 13.28 KG of CO2(From point 1, 2 ) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CARBON FOOTPRINT OF ALL-ELECTRIC NISSAN LEAF FOR RUNNING 33 MILES IS 4.35 KG OF CO2 04)Total miles driven by most fuel efficient Gasoline(Petrol) car like Honda civic for 1 gallon = 33miles( Reference C) 05)Amount of energy taken by a Nissan leaf to cover 84 miles = 21 KWH(Reference D (Only 21 KWH of 24 KWH Leaf battery is used) ) 06)Amount of energy taken by a Nissan leaf to cover 33miles = 8.25 KWH(From point 5 ) 07)Amount of CO2 emitted to produce 1 KWH using Coal power plant = 0.97 KG of CO2(Reference E) a.Approximately 39% of the electricity production is from coal 08)Amount of CO2 emitted to produce 1 KWH using Natural Gas plant = 0.55 KG of CO2(Reference E) a.Approximately 27% of the electricity production is from Natural Gas and rest coming from non-carbon source like Nuclear, Hydro, Wind, Solar 09)Approx amount of CO2 emitted to produce 1 KWH in US = 0.53 KG of CO2 a.Approximately 67% of the electricity production is from coal powered, natural gas and rest coming from non-carbon source like Nuclear, Hydro, Wind, Solar b.Reference F 10)Approx amount of CO2 emitted to produce 8.25 KWH in US = 4.35 KG of CO2 11)Approx amount of CO2 emitted to run a Nissan leaf for 33 miles in US = 4.35 KG of CO2 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RESULT ------------ 12)CARBON FOOT PRINT PERCENTAGE OF NISSAN LEAF/ HONDA CIVIC FOR RUNNING 33 MILES = 32.73% ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ADDITIONAL ADVANTAGES --------------------------------------- 1)Savings in foreign exchange money that goes to adversary countries in Middle east 2)Shifting of the pollution from densely populated cities to less densely populated areas 3)As Coal plants are in decline and non-carbon emitting energy source like Wind, Solar, Nuclear increase their share, the carbon foot print of electric car will improve further 4)Electric cars provide regenerative braking which gives lot of energy savings in congested city traffic driving Reference: A)epa.gov/cleanenergy/energy-resources/refs.html B)greentransportation.info/guide/energy/electricity-to-refine-gallon-gasoline.html C)fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbs&id=34784&id=34699 D)roperld.com/science/NISSANLeaf.htm E)eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.cfm?id=74&t=11 F)eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.cfm?id=427&t=3 H)kzbin.info/www/bejne/eILTiWBvhN54qJY

This car can be compared to an entry level hatch back car like alto k10 Price of Alto is 4 lacks . Millege 20-24kmpl . Now come to the plastic car e20 . Top end model cost you more than 10 lacks rupee . Single charge it can go up to 140 km Running cost may be low to electric car but it is way to expensive . It is six lacks rupees higher than the petrol car . When calculating the long run petrol car is less expensive. The battery of electronic cars are much expensive they only give warranty for three years if anything happen to the car beyond the warranty period for example the battery ran out completely ,then you have to spend more than three lacks rupee for buying a new battery So the cost of ownership of a standard hatchback electric car is average 14 lacks for that you can own a decent SUV like Tata Nexon or Ford Ecospot . On the long run cost of ownership of electic cars is expensive. There should be two things for the success of Electronic cars. 01. The price of electronic car should not go more than 50K than its counterparts ie petrol cars. 2} Fast charging stations . Fast charging stations are needed in every 50 km across the nation. For establishing a fast charging station huge amount of investment needed. These two can't be done. The electric cars are not the future . It's the Hydrogen fuel cell powered cars

Here's just a few things, tat you don't have to worry about with electric cars, since they have very less moving parts. No engine No valves No pistons No spark plugs No timing belts No crankshaft No transmission No engine Tune-ups No clutch No exhaust pie No oil changes No Air Filter Replacement No Automatic Transmission Fluid Change No Brake Fluid Replacement No Coolant Replacement No Drive Belt(s) Replacement No Fuel Filter Change No Oil and Filter Change No Valve Adjustment No Muffler replacement This list can go on and on! All these repair works cost money and with an electric you save money here. Many of the Indian EV community have been using an electric car or an e-Scooter and have had virtually no maintenance for 3+ years, apart from yearly checkup and fine tuning.

PlugInIndia what about buying guidelines?
@pluginIndia
@pluginIndia 7 жыл бұрын
We will make a musings video / blog on buying guidelines. Thanks for the suggestion. But ask yourself - What is your use? How many km per day do your drive? - Do you drive in City 90% of the time and occasionally go out of the city? Then an electric is perfect for you. - Have u looked at the RE:CHARGEINDIA app and see that there are charge points outside cities as well. - What is your budget? - There are people who have driven an electric car for 90000 km and battery is still giving them 100 km or more. Do you trust the Li-Ion battery? - Do you live in a city where there is a Mahindra Electric Service centre. Although there are less moving parts, there are electronics that can go wrong and having a service centre is useful. - Have you thought about used Electric cars? We will cover all these and more soon. But do reflect on these and if your answer to these are positive for most, then u can go ahead without thinking. Electric Cars give u freedom unlike ICE cars. A real joy.

PlugInIndia I would be driving around 30 odd kms a day. My use is 90% within the city. In my city there is an Mahendra electric car service centre. My budget is around ₹2,00,000. I am planning to get a used one so that I can get to know HOW TO GET USED.

Okay ur use case is perfect for an electric car. Some people have got a used e2o for 2.5 Lakhs or so, which has driven around 250000 km. With your driving case, if u get an electric car driven at 25k or 30k km, provided the battery maintained properly by previous owners like charging every 3 days for 10+ hours - then u can get it and use the battery for 6-7 years easily Visit Mahindra Dealer and ask them for used models and a quotation.
