I enjoyed your video. From one Master Plumber like myself, to another capable Master Plumber from "Across The Pond". It's cool to see how you deal with the sames type of work I engage in weekly in Pittsburgh, Pa. I'm nearly 36 years on the job, and I'm feeling it a bit bro. I try to keep the mind sharp by being a plumbing instructor for two, 3 hours classes a week two semesters per year. (24 nights per semester) The one thing is for certain, every thinking man still learns something new each day. Some of the fittings you use over there aren't "approved" in the US. As I'm sure there's some vice-versa there. But you're still my Master Plumbing brutha from across the pond". Much respect to you sir. I have no doubt you are very helpful for all types of people over there. A man willing to show his trade to others via video forum has pride in his trade. Cheers, my friend. You have a new subscriber

What on earth master plumber? I've never heard that "title".
@revmo37

@@jothain In The USA, You have to have to complete 576 hours of classroom time while proving on your tax form that you've been working these as an "Apprentice plumber" in your day job. Hence the required 576 hours needed to qualify.since they realize that you often work late on an emergency job, So there are excused absences for time spent working overtime with your boss, with the boss writing you a note you will receive time credit. After completing your 4 years of apprenticeship. You are then eligible to take the Journeyman's Test, Which is $125 US dollars, upon satisfactorily completing that, you have to be a "Journeymen Plumber" two full years, then you become eligible to take your Master's Test for 1 cost of $375. If you fail either test, you get no refund and must wait 6 months to re-take, and re pay for the exams. However, Once you've achieved your "Master Plumber's License", you are set for life, simply send in the $375 a year to keep it renewed. Most reputable plumbing companies will pay this for you

A lot of Pipe Fittings in Europe including the U.K. are now Metric, in the South of Ireland we do go down that old route the Imperial Measurements 1/2", 3/4" and 1" but sometimes use adapters to transfer over from Imperial to Metric, in Europe the standard would a minimum 'CE' European symbol denoting a standard of European Certification along with ISO standards and various other Eu certs , but in North America the likes of 'Watts" in domestic or even "UL' Underwriters Limited in both domestic and commercial applications do come in to play... British also would use what they call ,"British Kite Mark"...

So glad you use jointing compound when fitting these compression fit valves! I always use a smear of LSX around the olive, just because it's saved me once or twice and never failed me once. I thought it was just me lacking confidence and being uneccessarily belt and braces!
@tracer1127
@tracer1127 3 жыл бұрын
I also always use jointing compound every time on compression olives. For the sake of a few seconds and a bit of a wipe over it pretty much guarantees a good joint. It’s certainly nowhere near as much faff as a leaky fitting..

Hi James thanks for the videos, I find them very informative. I do have one question you may be able to help with please. We are in a VERY hard water area and had to have a new tank element fitted, the amount of scale present was horrendous., So going to need something to try to limit the hard water. A Water softener can’t be installed, so looking at an electronic scale inhibitor. Is this what I need ( if so any recommendations), if not do you have any other ideas please? Thanks keep up the good work.👍

I saw you did not use a pen reamer to deburr the inside of the copper pipe. I usually lose a lot of time to make it smooth because in the college they thought me that it may cause turbolences. Should I not care about?
@gadgetman36
@gadgetman36 3 жыл бұрын
It isn't strictly necessary to deburr the pipe if you use the "pipe slice" type of pipe cutter featured in the video (with or without a ratchet). I've done loads of connections without deburring and never had issues.
@antoniogalluccio4213
@antoniogalluccio4213 3 жыл бұрын
@@gadgetman36 I always use a pipe slicer but I can see and feel the burr, you use a full bore valve but you resrict the pipe inner diameter of at least 2 mm in total. I use a pen reamer which is very sharp, much better than the plastic inside outside debur tool, it removes the burr in seconds.
