hi james,spoke to jg some years ago and they advised only use plain inserts on compression?.also i was told never use compression behind wall or floor.just a note mate

He hasn't got much choise to use them compression elbow because the shower head arm has got to thread into the that compression fitting doubt jg do one of those fittings.
@alansmith94123 жыл бұрын
@@pawleyplum4921 you can get end feed wall plate elbow and just use couple of inches of copper pipe.if u screw the shower arm into the elbow it can move and make the comp fitting leak

I agree on the endfeed wall plate elbow I've used them on this type of job that James is doing but I just used copper all the way. But then he will a push fit joint in is wall as well.

Another informative video as always James, need to watch those inserts though, supposed to be plain inserts in compression. I know its never going to be under pressure but they don't leave enough length for the olive to compress onto.

James, lovely job. I only have one comment though. You really shouldn't use Flex for permanent wiring. It's not rated to be within plaster. 6242y is the cable to use and if its for lighting 1.0 - 1.5mm cross sectional area and 6243y 1.5mm for the fan back to the fan isolator switch.

Why use ply? You can use OSB should be cheaper and does the same job. With the backer board and tanking it should be fine. Can't wait to see your tanking and digital shower!

Screwing into OSB is shite. As a decking material it’s great, but not for anchoring anything to.

I wished id have used angled half inch wall plates on my shower. Id thought id tightened up the compression fitting tight enough till I came to wind on the outlet after the wall was finished and backed off the compression fitting on the back of it. My question is how do you allow the right depth if the wall elbow isn't long enough? i.e 15mm board then 10mm tile/panel depth if you couldn't get the pipework bent enough in wall to the valve isn't available?

Wondering would you be insulating the Brick wall by slabbing maybe 25 MM rigid foil backed PolyIso board... with as same would soak up a lot of heat and stop the likes of thermal bridging and condensation hitting that wall...great Upload...

Is it ok to use JG PEX pipe to fit to a mixer bar shower? Would you just use a 90 elbow then an extra piece of pipe to come out of the wall or would this be better with copper? Is it secure enough without using the brass fitting you have here which is screwed to the wood. The shower comes with the speed fit brass plate and olive set up Love the videos my man ive watched so many 👍👍 apreciate the help
@MrManningata3 жыл бұрын
Pex is fine to use for a shower valve. Usually for a bar shower you will have a back plate which attaches behind the wall, and you plumb into that - later on when you put the wall on, the bar valve attaches to the plate fixing that you attached earlier.

Have you wired your lights in flex? 1.5mm flat t&e is the standard.
@sdgelectronics3 жыл бұрын
Flex is still perfectly acceptable, and a lot better for downlights.
@DaddyBear30003 жыл бұрын
@@sdgelectronics personally, if I see something in the U.K. wired in flex it screams DIY. It also isn’t better for downlights either, most of which now have push fit terminals and a cable clamp specifically designed for 2 x 1.5mm t+e. Not to mention that you also have to put ferrules on the conductors when putting them in accessories to get a half decent connection. BS7671 also specifies conditions under which flex can be used for fixed wiring.
@sdgelectronics3 жыл бұрын
@@DaddyBear3000 Yes the conditions all fully meet domestic fixed wiring. All of the prefabricated houses with the plug-in consumer units etc are also wired in flex. What do you suggest would be any downside other than cost?
@DaddyBear30003 жыл бұрын
@@sdgelectronics aside from not really being meant to be used for fixed wiring and ultimately being more of a faff to use properly, no safety concerns. Just an odd choice. That being why I didn’t say, “you can’t do that.” I just pointed out it wasn’t the standard.

When you film with light coming from behind, arrange some light shining on your face so it does not go completely dark when camera compensates for that backlight.

@@scottotero9374I judge what I see. If he came to my house and, let's say, mounted a sink syphon upside down, no amount of previously watched videos proofing his competence would make me say 'good work'. Yeah I usually spend hours lighting stuff. It’s a tight space in the bathroom and more importantly dusty (The Canon C70 and speed booster worth ££££ do not get a look in!) plus I’m just trying to get this job done before my Mrs castrates me! 😂 Therefore it’s no lights (for now - until they’re in the ceiling!) and shot on a Canon 80d with 11mm Lens and a GoPro! But thanks for the comment mate. Got some studio slickies and a gorgeous shot video on the @timeswithjames channel coming soon. 👍

In my opinion speedfit is fantastic for what it's designed for, through joists,under floors,through stud walls but I always use copper where you can see it and connecting to valves ,rads and so on , copper work always looks better and again in my opinion is a better material all round 😀
