Total man crush. The slots on my flange are cracked. I was going to simply drill through and secure it from underneath instead of replacing but then I saw this video. I have all of the tools so I am going to do it the "right way." Thanks dude!

I had a broken toilet flange , so I have a guy come over and fix the problem . He worked from the basement and cut the entire pipe , now I'm buying pipe couplings screws and some expensive coupling he said was top rated. He took me to the cleaners that day so now I do all my plumbing

Liked watching your video, as DIYers learn by watching others. I had to do this and I discovered that having the right tools for the job is the key to success. I didn't use a Reciprocating Saw. Instead, I used my Dremel Multi-saw. The flat blade removed the flange in no time. Turning the blade 90 degrees took care of removing the rest of the flange.

Great tips. My issue was the person who installed my half bath toilet for the previous owner attached it to the subfloor and not at finished floor. The wax seal never seated properly, leaked and rotted the flange and floor. I had to pull it all up (down to the subfloor) and replaced it. Glad I did... they also never used a backer under the ceramic tile. The grout was also shot because it flexed with the plywood.

Based. Thanks for showing this. "the way you do it is calling a professional" Doesnt exude confidence in the quality of the work or develop reputation of nature. I mean its not like it hurts anyone revealing this, since everyone is just lined up with tools dying to fight their own stank holes, They just had no idea how to get that flange out.

I've done the same procedure when I did the flange into the 4in.I didn't glue them in just tapcomed them I prefer the s.s. flanges people overthigten the closest closest bolts trying to get wiggle out of WC and break flange.
@nickgenevie6545 Жыл бұрын
So sometime chipping it out can damage the pipe. If this happens a 3” coupling will glue inside 4” pipe giving you another option.

For the viewer, you can also buy Tapcons with countersunk heads. It probably matters to the OCD crowd.

Get the flange with metal ring so you can turn it and rubber gasket so you can remove if needed

I put my toilet Flange in just like that level with the floor. The toilet still rocks. And moves. I put four tapcon in it. What did I do wrong. Does the flange need to sit below the floor.
@sewerstuds Жыл бұрын
Your floor is probably not level. You can use plastic toilet shims to get the toilet to stop rocking.

My toilet bottom was leaking so here I am. After taking off toilet see that the steel flange that’s supposed to nailed / screwed down is all rusted through. It’s wooden floor and some is level ( the back ) while the front wood isn’t. It’s gone rotted though maybe a quarter inch down . Can I still use as is and just get it with longest nails / screws I can find ?

All you have to do is slowly heat the inside of pvc pipe with a torch , melts the glue and twists out easily

Is that floor tile or cement? I'm trying to figure out if the flange should be level with the cement floor or tile

Neither. The flange needs to be set ontop of the floor. Whatever the final floor is the flange needs to set ontop of it.

@@revydoer1478 no, the flange doesn’t need to sit on top of the floor. Do whatever works for you but it can be flush with the floor or even below the finished floor. There’s more than one way to plumb it properly.

Why not cut the tile.the size of the flange? It was half done already. Then you wouldnt need to use the screws.
@richardhaley3347 Жыл бұрын
Good repair. Better to use a Phillips tapcon than the raised nut driver type head. The Phillips sits flat and flush. Also it's better to clean and primer the inside of the pipe and the flange.
@Ghostpeppah7102 жыл бұрын
Great video, 👍 👌
@localexploringSC5 ай бұрын
Don't use primer. You DON'T want a strong joint. Just use a little bit of glue, so that if this flange ever needs to be replaced again, it will come out easily again. There's no pressure on this connection, and it will never be underwater, so you want the glue joint to be WEAK.

"Much more flush with the floor? " , really bad english. Ironically you went to all this time to put a video together and the end result is it isnt flush ? And you still posted the video. Always check before glueing . Put a sheet down if you think you are going to spill purple primer . Work smarter no harder .

Ya know that’s if you have plastic dwv. He should have glued a 3” inch flange inside 4” pipe. That’s solid core pvc,that’s why it comes out easy
