Uponor / PEX-A handles extreme temps better since it will go back to shape, but the big thing is that you cant miss a crimp. PEX-B crimps might be slightly off, or you might not have crimped it at all. PEX-A needs to be expanded to fit on the connecter so no way to miss it, plus the connection only gets stronger over time because its resting and contracting.

easier sometimes, but not really for service. You can use your existing fittings on the Pex A pipe, but its much more costly per foot. It is much more forgiving and I prefer working with it.
@RadioactiveCereal3 жыл бұрын
uponor is much much easier especially in tight spaces, though it does not work well when the pipe / fittings are below 40 degrees because of the nature of the expansion and contraction. also you can cut the CPVC pipe with a copper cutter - the M12 tool works great on CPVC

For us, it was more a matter of the supply house we were using and the brand they stocked. The initial investment in tools was also a factor in the beginning. The nice thing about crimp rings is they can be used on any sdr9 tubing. Doesn't matter the composition

I though I was using grade a pex. Im gonna do some homework now.

I have a little pair of smooth jaw pliers I use to pre-crimp the rings so they do not slide around. Someone told me at one point the normal pliers score the rings and can cause a failure over time. Don’t know if it is true or not, but for 10 off amazon, I use the smooth jaws.

Pretty cool seeing things done in different ways from all around. Being a service and repair plumber in west Texas, I use uponor type A. Still use Zurn pex for tight places and rebuilding manifolds, but love uponor and my milwaukee expansion tool!
@ChuckBarron3 жыл бұрын
Very cool! appreciate your input. i have never used it.
@jayarnold57273 жыл бұрын
Chuck,you should really give ,A, pex pipe with expansion type joints a try, no need to upsize the pipe ,since technically you're not reducing the inside diameter of the pipe,plus have you ever had to use the press where it doesn't fit. Uponor is a superior product.It is a small investment for the Milwaukee expansion tool , I have the press tool as well,but hardly ever use it,One piece of advice when using Shark bite fittings, always chamfer the edges of the pipe ,and mark the depth of the socket .Have a good weekend my friend. I forgot to mention with A, pex you can use expansion or crimp style fittings, B,pex you can only crimp.

Not a criticism at all, just wondering why you usually use PEX-B with crimp instead of PEX-A expansion. Just the tools you’ve invested in? Any bad experiences with one or the other? Prefer one or the other? Don’t get me wrong here, there’s nothing wrong with either system when properly installed.

Chuck why would you use shark bites when you could use cpvc to pex transition fittings sure you have to glue them but it's the right thing to do shark bites are for hacks and emergencies only I hope you were using them for a emergency to get them water for the weekend because I know you don't want to be known as a hack instead of a plumber, cutting cpvc with a saw and not deburring before using a emergency shark bite is not good either, come on Big Chuck show a little pride once in a while ,some of the videos you post gives plumbers the willys, thanks for the effort on the videos

@@ChuckBarron if I did a replay on that kitchen sink tie in and conversion from PEX to CPVC, I'm going to ignore the type of fitting used to make the transition, we're all entitled to having an opinion and likewise to use what we have to get the job done, but the point is to put it where it's going to be easy to see and easy to work on when the day comes that the rest of that CPVC gets ripped out, as we all know Plumbing isn't going anywhere! I would strategically think about where it'll be easy to get the crimping tool into position whether you're using a ProPress or a hand crimp tool to access the fitting. Where you put the shark bites works okay for SB, but definitely more challenging up in that joist bay. The alternate might have been to have changed it to PEX all the way back to the 90s, replace the 90s and put the adapters on the vertical risers. At least it's a drop ceiling.
@rickw41603 жыл бұрын
I like using the radius 90 benders if possible if it doesn't need to be a tight 90. Pex to cpvc converters. Glue em and clamp em. Even as a fan of uponor, finding those fittings that are for uponor is less common. You can run to any hd or lowes for regular pex stuff. Heck you can get propress fittings at lowes now!!
