They need to close the river fisheries all along the west coast including Alaska because of the low return numbers. California ocean commercial and sport fishing has been closed for two years straight. Help protect the chinook salmon and don’t fish if you care.

I'll leave it up to the expert biologist, and each of our state fisheries (Dept of Fish and Game). I harvest from the bank 1 or 2 Springers on the Columbia River. It is a difficult task but rewarding. Appreciate your comment but if you have an insight why Oregon and Alaska have to close the fisheries because of California regs please let me know or msg me here for all the community to view. It could be helpful for everyone.

Like I said California has been doing the closures for a couple of years. But, I’ve been reading up and listening to the reports from your state of Oregon, Washington and Alaska. You are all having issues that we had earlier before the closures. My understanding for Alaska that if you’re not native Alaskans who rely on fishing for sustenance to feed your family you can’t fish for chinook salmon. This is just what I’ve heard. If we don’t all pitch in to help our fisheries no matter what state you’re from we won’t any fisheries for chinook salmon. It doesn’t make sense to just close the oceans and not the rivers where they go to spawn, the rivers are our future. If your state or Washington or Alaska is not having issues with declining returns then yes enjoy your fishing, but, if you are then take action to protect them. Happy fishing 🎣 and stay safe.

He said she said it sounds like. But as someone who lives in Washington I know they are over cautious and close fishing all the time if it even looks like there is a problem. ​@@HOPE4USALL1

@@HOPE4USALL1 We have a hatchery program for Chinook Salmon and all most other salmonoid species. As an angler, the state only allows us to keep fin clip salmon missing the adipose fin, clipped when they are smolts. This is the only salmon we can harvest. This is not wild salmon. There are certain rivers in the state of OR and WA that allow harvest of wild salmon certain weeks. I think most of the damage or impact is commercial fishing vessels.

Nice! How big was that beauty? I'm hoping to get on the river early next week. I was invited to try this weekend but I've got an anniversary Saturday and Mother's Day Sunday so I will be in the kitchen cooking all weekend... We've got some negative tides coming in early June. I'm going to get some morning razor clams and then try snaring in a place I've not snared in that has been producing good results for some friends. Always good to see your videos, Hale!

Do spin glows actually play a big factor when plunking? New to salmon/steelhead fishing trying to get my first one this year

From what I know going the last 4 seasons color and vibration of the spin n glo attract the salmon to strike. It maybe the combo of the scent of tuna ball, tuna belly attached as well. You have til 6-15-24 for Springers on the Columbia R. Just check ODFW and WDFW for extensions on the seasons Good Luck. 🤙🏽🤙🏽

Whay brand of rods are you using? I can't fined rods like you are using anywhere

Rainshadow I got on Offerup. It is in the description (Baton Enterprises in WA). I just got lucky. Look into Cabela's and other big stores. Okuma I believe makes SST 12' rods. Anything for sturgeon. You will be casting out 8 oz - 12 oz. of weight. Hope that helps. GL

Yep...works if you don't mind being around people. I was a bit intimidated by the numbers but as shown in the video people are generally very helpful. Not for everyone though. Thanks for the comment.

It's just a clown show down there. Aggregate IQ's are pretty low when they hook a fish.
