Epic morning bite and new comer hooks into a summer chinook. 2 hour window 30 years ago? The excitement of the bite and the fight of this prize fish tell all. The epitome of all salmon in NW. Facial expressions tell all how one should feel when you have a fish on.

Actually your video was so much fun to watch, I had to watch it several times. I found myself trying not to giggle out loud as my husband had gone to bed. So much fun! Your video encouraged me and I hope to catch my first chinook this year. Is hard to find a safe place to fish as I am a middle aged lady and take my mom with me. Some people can be rather mean. Thanks for being so kind to the newbie in your group. You are awesome

Good Video!!! And I'd like to thank the gentleman who gave some instructions for putting the bait sack on the treble hook!! How much weight and what type of Weight do you use???!! And What is the distance between the hook and the hook Please??!!
@BackFishing
@BackFishing Жыл бұрын
Thank you. My buddy is very knowledgeable. Weight is dependent always on the current flow. We are using 10 ounces to 12 ounces with wires to grab hold the bottom and is 12 " to 14" from the spreader. Leader from hook is typically around 30" to 36". Good luck.

Nice fish and and great video. . Btw when does the season end on the upper columbia , and I have heard a lot of people frowning about using braided line but is braided line ok for plunking ? Also does this work without the hoochie
@BackFishing
@BackFishing 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. Just check with ODFW website. Closed to salmon retention now but come first week of August. I believe fall season starts. Braided is frowned due to how it cuts monofilament easy. You will always certainly be fishing around a crowd of people. Once braided line snags unto the rocks, it's nearly impossible to get your gear back once stuck on braided mainline. Spin n Glo (0) work without hoochies as well. GL

@@BackFishing btw what where those rods the other people where using. Im looking fo a good plunking rod that can cast 8+ oz of weight
@BackFishing
@BackFishing 3 жыл бұрын
@@electricbaitspnw224 Most fisherman have custom built rods by Lamiglas 12' - 13' length. There are Okuma, Penn and Diawa poles that will do the trick too. Fast action, moderate to heavy. GL

Would you say trebel hooks are A better option compared to single hooks for plunking?. I will be doing my first every salmon fishing soon and just getting everything figured out
@BackFishing
@BackFishing 10 ай бұрын
What works for me is fishing with treble hooks but I know it's about 50/50 ratio, treble vs single hook with trailer hook (two 2 hooks) Both being very effective, I think it's a matter of preference. GL

What size sinker did you use and did you use a 3-way swivel? Btw, nice background music!
@BackFishing
@BackFishing 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Summer time when you don't have to cast but 30 yds max 8-12 oz with wire. I've never tried Fall yet but locals say the water is much lower and current is much stronger. Casting is much farther and needing 12 -16 oz wts. T - spreader (less tangling) is used 95% to ensure your fishing when your Spin n Glo hit the water. 3 - swivel is not as popular but some fishermen do use them. 🤙 🤙 🤙

Can I get away with a medium heavy rod for springer on the Columbia?
@BackFishing

Lots of current on the Columbia, so 10oz is recommended for weight.
