I think cropped / pure white backgrounds look too artificial and "plastic", they may be nice if you're a retailer selling 1000s of units of your new SKU, but I prefer a regular white photobox background so I know these are genuine photos that haven't been manipulated.

I agree that backgrounds should be clean, not looking like a hot mess. White backgrounds are great when you need to show fine details. I had one of those large bears, I put it out on garden bench in front yard with a Free sign on it. Now I feel so sad.

I know, I know you love Photo Room--but I personally cannot stand white backgrounds. I have ZIP ZERO extra time to even think about using another app or spending anymore time on my photos than I do. If you take good pictures and don't have any clutter the it looks better to me, plus it actually looks like a real item that you have. When it comes to using a pop can or a soup can or a coin--a lot of on-line auctions use those--people usually have no concept of size--so these are ways to help with visualization. In the end, we all do what we feel is best for our business--what your idea of professional is and what mine and someone else's idea are obviously way different. Sorry, I can't agree with you here--but that is my .03 cents. Thanks sooo much for the shout out and this was a very informative video for anyone who my need to use photo room. Thanks Courtney 💗🍨👩‍🌾

I've used the FREE version of Photoroom for years and it works just fine. That being said I don't always think you need a white background. Realistic looks Real in it's natural environment. Based on your examples Courtney background really didn't affect their sale price.

I use a photo box but it really doesn’t give me the white background I really like so I also use Photo Room. I love it. eBay’s background remover just doesn’t work well. Have had too many times it takes away what need a to stay or leaves parts you don’t way. Hoot HOOT 🦉 I LOVE PHOTO ROOM!

I think the wolf look better on the chair than a white background because it shows their size. I love PhotoRoom but it's not always best and with plush it often flattens out the fur on the edges.

I think a lot of people get these realistic pups for themselves or loved ones when a beloved pet passes away. I say this because I was looking for some puppies for a big Melissa and Doug doodle my daughter had asked Santa to bring her. I looked at a gazillion stuffies with reviews and that was a common theme on the realistic dog plush.

I hate an all white background because it looks too sterile, and it looks like the item is floating in mid-air. But you can get a white posterboard at the Dollar Tree for $1.25 and elimate whatever is behind your item. I used a pc of rustic wood, or tile, and the poster board. Great tip on "realistic." I'm kicking myself for some plush I left behind at GW yesterday. Thanks!

I do prefer uncluttered backdrops, and I know Google wants them to be white, but I do think, especially on certain platforms, such as Posh or Etsy, more artistic backdrops are often seen. I do also think that in a few of the situations shown here, the sellers made great choices with the background--like that one dog who looked like he was a real dog just loving life at home, and the tiger on the fantastic sofa. And while I think photo room is great in some cases, I do think that depending on what you're selling you need to be aware that a bright white background can be less than ideal, such as if selling a primarily white item. Also background removers sometimes crop too closely and trim off the very edges of items, so be aware if selling an item where that really matters--such as books, magazines, trading cards, etc. :)

I have a photo box and when I am lazy I just use that. But it just looks a bit dirty. If you go into my store you will see which items I have just used the photobox on and which ones I have used PhotoRoom. I have 2 large light boxes and one medium size. I spent a lot of money on them and now really would not need.

Depending on the subject being photographed, a setting can look good. I use PhotoRoom all the time (Free version) I found Mercari won't allow the PR pics, at least not the free version

That’s a pretty crappy move by the thrift store! Maybe they want to discourage resellers. To your question, I have no idea. Maybe just google how to get marker stains out of fabric and go from there. Good luck!

Just want to add. I love photo room! Great for centering a huge batch of photos too. I used to spend waaaay too long cropping photos. Also, there are so many other backgrounds you can use with PhotoRoom. I like to use a more gray background with shadowing.
