Plymouth Bunker security guards go BERZERK Mount Wise

They threatened us... shouted unreasonable demands like "get down on the floor now" and we had only come and taken pictures and got on the very solid concrete roof. A little bit over the top me thinks. Skip to approx 40 mins onwards to see the INCIDENT!

I've been inside the mhq at mount wise twice, once in 1994 when it was operational and once approx 10 years ago once it had been sold off to the firm building houses in the park above it. Up the ramp near where you parked the car was indeed the main entrance. The door up the pathway was a emergency entrance/exit complete with decontamination showers inside. The back door you found your way to is not a direct entrance to the bunker but a blast door protecting a entrance to 2 bunkers, one on top of the other. The one you were trying to access is the mhq ( bunker 2 ) but below the mhq actually is another the Plymouth underground extension ( bunker 1 ). Bunker 1 was built around the first world war. I believe to house amongst other things the telephone exchange, and there is a locked entrance to it from the boat yard you were looking into up the path. It also has a entrance in the garden from what was originally admirably house now called harmonize house. Bunker 2 I believe was built in the 60s and continuously updated until the 00's when it was decomissioned. In the 90s when I first visited it was fully operational although I wasn't allowed into sensitive operational areas, but I did go into the map room quite similar to 2nd world war plotting rooms. The mhq is a 2 storey bunker kind of laid out like a ship with porthole windows in doors. On the second visit the guts had been ripped out of the place but the faraday cage remained in one of the comms rooms. Its a interesting place, and what makes me wonder is..... If they could do this all those years ago, what are modern bunkers like now.

In a situation like that it just takes one dominant person to stand your ground , speak to them calmly .. bring the tempo down and once they know your not a threat both parties can walk away . Shouting just digs the hole deeper.

There are loads of Mod sites in Plymouth some guarded by the military , explore at your peril the holy grail of underground explores is at bull point and was used to store all sorts of munitions and nuclear torpedoes it goes about a mile into the hillside

These security guards dont seem to be trained at all. Also to use a dog in a threatening or intimidating manner like they did is a criminal offence. Report the company to the police and SIA. Cowboy outfits like this give the whole industry a bad name. The most important part of security is people skills, the aim being to diffuse situations not escalate them.

I'm in the "no music" camp, but as long as it's done tastefully, and not overdone, it works out well. The wrong music, and too much of it, can force the viewer to mute it altogether The people that add music over speech and offer no subs ... this is the worst

There are usually technial as well as aesthetic reason music needs to be used, to cover mistakes in the audio, wind noise etc. I am not into this continual background music myself but if it hides audio popping in and out then for a very specific reason I would use it to fix things.

Its not MoD anymore, hasn't been since 2004 I seem to remember, the Citadel was a warren of a place with much of it dilapidated and unused but you might find some resistance as apparently security has been well tightened up there, wasn't the worst place in the world for a young lad to play toy soldiers. I still reckon you should hit Union St on a warm saturday night just around chucking out time and ask revellers if they are in the wavy navy and did they find the golden rivet ;) I asked me granddad that and he was a warrant officer on battleships during the war, he never spoke to me in this life again, he was very not amused :(

Its a policy ie: "If security turn up, its everyone for themselves". Ally Law and his crew do the same thing. It can appear a little shitty, but if everyone knows the policy beforehand its fine. Conversely, some folks have an "all stick together" policy, which is also fine. The worst thing is, if all involved have not discussed this beforehand. If that happens you'll get all sorts of assumptions being made (usually by the poor bastards that can't run for shit and get caught LOL) that if security turn up everyone is going to stick together when no such policy has been discussed.

Also, do you chaps ever use Blue Castle stuff, they do a range of really hard to destroy camo trousers for about £13, I scrub around in my sets in mud, on the ground and under cars, in the wash and have yet to break a pair lol When I go for a explore its a pair of them, my Austrian para boots, German army rollneck and an uber thick Lonsdale hoody with maybe my MA1 flighty or my M65 Brandit combat jacket and feel pretty immune to anything this land can throw at it hehe BTW I bet the old bill and the security just loved your man's Irish brogue a treat, there has been a heightened alert about possible provo activity against bases. Lights I can't beat my old railway Bardic lamp, batteries last a long long time and they used them in the forces for signalling as they can be seen for miles even though on a incandescent bulb, I converted mine to a well powerful LED and the night turns into day :D

07:00 I think they call that verge or embankment a Glacis … I take it that’s a fort? If it is then the glacis was a bank with an angle so that if the enemy attacked with cannons then the bank would shield the fortress behind as the cannons would then go over the top,of the fort. The only way to bombard the fortress was to fire the guns further back and drop,the shot into the fort. The impact would then only be due to gravity and the damage would be minimal.. however, the invention of the mortar allowed an explosive charge to be dropped down into the fort from outside. Sorry for being a boring geek hahah
