The main thing that stood out in this very interesting video was how clean and litter free the streets around the Barbican are. I know it was filmed in January and maybe when there are more tourists there may be litter but it was very pleasing to see that standards are maintained during the winter months. Well done Plymouth!

I was so dis-heartened this week to go in early to the city centre and see so much litter and filth around the main streets. Where are the early morning clean up teams are are we not now allowed to disturb the homeless sleepers in the shop doors early.

Here's a little Janner secret, the Mayflower steps are not the genuine steps that the Pilgrim Fathers left from, the original steps are located under the toilets located in the pub about 40 feet away!

Plymouth looks like the perfect place for an expat that needs to get out of the schengen for a while. I'll be living in Portugal, but while I wait to be given residency there, I could pop over to Plymouth as Plymouth has ferries going directly to N. Spain, making my trek back to Portugal even faster. THANX! Beautiful filming!

LOVELY! And yes we live in Mutley and here is a shortish walk all downhill of course. We noticed a few shops move and of course the FUDGE SHOP chain arrive. We know one of the Chinese cafe owners in a sort of hidden away places. My first visit was with the school 1973 by train and many memory's formed. The Mural was being painted at that time and a scruffy paint splashed artist doing the finishing touches. Our daughter was born in Plymouth.

So nice to see you in my home town, if I had known you were visiting I would have popped down to say hello ! So sorry to see you had to experience typical Plymouth weather, we get a lot of it, it's a wonder we don't have webbed feet, like all the seagulls ! So much history here, and famous historical figures, such as Francis Drake, Robert Falcon Scott, even Charles Darwin stayed here before his exploration, Katherine of Aragon also stopped here prior to going to London to marry Henry 8th brother. Hope your trainers dried ok 😀

I was fourteen when I last visited Plymouth with my parents on a trip to Cornwall, that’s over half century ago and having seen your video it’s made me want to visit again thank you. I like visiting navel towns, we were in Portsmouth a couple of years ago and Falmouth this late spring they have an extra dimension with the naval craft and infrastructure to see. When we were in Portsmouth we spent some of the afternoon on a pub terrace next to the Wightlink ferry terminal watching he ferries come and go.

Hi! I'm new here and bumped into this video by chance. Must admit I have no regrets. It's amazing to see this city continue to keep its past intact even after 5 centuries. The thought of the Mayflower of 1620 and the way the same steps that were used 500 plus years ago by people to move to the U.S. is astonishingly incredible. There is so much history in Barbican that it's impossible not to stop every few feet to take in these wonderful sights. I sure would like to visit this beautiful place one day. Thank you so much for this delightful coverage.

I lived in Plymouth in the late mid 80,s, it's a great city, the mayflower steps were apparently much further back towards the hill side were the road is situated, Devon has it's own status, people who visit the area will feel they should live in Devon, air quality and standard of living obviously are the reasons, but Cornwall is better just look.

One thing you missed in the barbican, that is by where you ate, is Jacka Bakery, it is the oldest commercial bakery in the UK, has been owned and ran by the "Jacka" family since it opened, their bread is honestly the best I've ever eaten, even better than french bread, it's so popular that they always sell out by midday, and you actually have to reserve a loaf if you want to make sure you'll be able to buy waht you want!

Thank you - you're right! (99% - it's the ladies!) Perhaps the most famous steps in history, the Mayflower Steps have supposedly been located in a surprising, yet somewhat cheeky spot - under a women's restroom in an English pub. A set of steps built in Plymouth in 1934 commemorates the location where the Pilgrims are said to have left England on the Mayflower in 1620 to settle North America. However, a local landlord says the actual location of the steps is not where tourists line up every year, but rather beneath the Admiral MacBride pub just a few feet away, SWNS reports. “Legend has it that this is the home of the Mayflower Steps," Admiral MacBride’s head chef Ollie Marshall, said in comments obtained by SWNS. ''The building was put on top of it more than 300 years ago and they are directly beneath the women’s toilets."
