You went to great lengths to explain how inaction is sometimes a great action by quoting JFK and Cuban missile crisis and attacked Nehru at the same time. You missed one more fact Gupta ji. Kennedy mostly ran as an anti-war candidate. Being anti-war was a trend just after World war 2 fatigue . Military general Eisenhower ran as anti-war & won. He even warned about military industrial complex in his last speech. Even Kennedy ran as anti-war so he had extra patience to scuttle a war than start one.

@Ujjwal Joshi. The whole world is Vasudev Kutumbakam police will discipline common ppl when there will be good policies in place, which is the duty of Govt, to form policies. So in a way, every small or major policy is under his leadership, his name. He doesn't actually make smaller level policies and he doesn't alone take major decisions. Everything is through ministers and consultants. He is not the only person doing the job but it's his responsibility to make sure others are working and that's where being a bit of a dictator works in favour. Mr. Gupta, your analogy with Cuban missile crisis is completely wrong. Kennedy did not take any military action because US soil was not under attack. In fact, Kennedy said to his cabinet in the first meeting, "are they preparing to launch attack on us?" The intelligence report was on the stockpile of missiles on Cuban soil, not on any indication that they are preparing any launch. In fact the further photos indicated that the some of the missiles have not yet been unpacked from the cargo. I am surprised that being an experienced journalist you missed this crucial point. In Galwan valley incident, India is under attack, a direct attack by Chinese forces. When you are under attack and you have lost land, you have to take actions and taking no actions and talking in favor of the enemy only sends the wrong signal to the enemy that we are weak.

But Nehru's continuous insistence on Johnson line coupled with Chinese suspicion about Indian motive on Tibet issue after Dalai Lama's asylum really broke the negotiations. Strangely, India never had any administrative presence in Akshai Chin. So claiming deep into populated areas of Akshai Chin was little far fetched in my opinion.

Lateral recruitment should be discouraged for these two reasons :- - It will break down the existing system of burocracy. - Lateral entrants are domain experts but beaurocrats are street fighters . Only they know the system and how to make it function as they are born and bred in the system ..Most lateral experts will have solid ideas but will not be able to implement . Answer to problem lies in enhancing domain expertise of beurocrats and more importantly providing them with easy access to domain experts ...

I have been following CTC and the print for over 2 year. But haven't made a comment yet. Firstly, I think I absorb a lot from the journalism produce. Secondly because I fell out of all the web series news, I feel the Print has the niche on the quality of journalism. Thirdly, I trust Sekhar Gupta's integrity and the same of all the teams in the Print. I hope it has set a good precedence on good journalism. It was a very right action to not speak of strategic affairs on a popular vernacular medium even if it means nothing to speak about the affairs. An external security rhetoric is a strong electoral agenda which will again favor a strong win but not playing the rhetoric in the current times where our energies are also being dissipated with internal crises, our PMandO deserve respect and a strong appreciation. Of the few episodes that I would have watched since lockdown, this one and the other one on capital punishment of Capt. Majed on CTC were ones which presented a good judgemental depth and I really appreciate the work.
