What a first class video. It brought a lot of fond memories back to me. Now showing my age, I can remember going to school on a steam train through the Woodhead Tunnel. In those days, in 99.90% of cases the train got through. There was no leaves on the line, wrong size of snow flakes or, winds blowing in the wrong direction. Those guys got through. I was fortunate in so far as, my grandfather worked on the railways and as a juvenile, I had access to free travel anywhere in Britain.

A delightful and nostalgic interlude.It takes me way back to the 50s/60s as a keen spotter when My mates and I went all over the place in search of steam.We saved up our pocket money and planned days out at Crewe/ Derby/Doncaster/those were happy days indeed.

Just in time to offer a superior alternative to Christmas music and movies. Great gift to all of us sitting here in our armchairs while you braved rain, fog and winds to get some of these excellent shots. I'm really going to miss Union of South Africa, although Tornado remains my favorite. Fabulous scenery, shots and sound, as always. Love the after dark films as the trains come through a station and the firebox glows. Merry Christmas and thanks.

Thank you for sharing the excellent video!. I don't know if you realised you have managed to capture the sound of the greater striped Northern Bumble Bee. Despite their humongous size they're a very passive and docile, friendly insect. I am assuming you weren't frightened by its giant size size as it precariously climbed up the aluminium step ladder as it was looking for a large cache of nectar in the nearby bushes😂 27:11

That was beautiful timing with Union of SA being overtaken by the Pendo! And for dramatic lighting effects you couldn't ask for much better than Ollie C in the shot after it, and 48151 round about 18:30.

Just finished watching and now have to come down to reality? Never says he with a 5 inch gauge Black Five tender living in the sitting room! Yes the Boiler now lives in the Kitchen and the rest in the home workshop!!! Our Holiday this year 3 days on the Bluebell! And there were others??? I know that may sound Amerikan of me, but after 30 years in the US (from German) I have come to love Amerikan whistles on their fast - and big - steam engines (2102, 425, 1223, 765, 3985, 4449, 8444, etc)

The days of locos whistling (and indeed diesels and electrics hooting) freely are tragically over. Usage these days is very carefully monitored - and woe betide a driver who uses them where not needed. It's a great pity, and to my mind it's just the work of 'jobsworths' with nothing better to do...
