David, thanks for your kind feedback. Filming scenes like these is never straightforward, as it's now become a spectator sport due to media coverage but thankfully we have plenty of countryside to escape in and capture some decent soundtracks from time to time.

Few things stir my soul like the sight and sound of a hard-working steam locomotive. British steam is so elegant and classy. American railroads have nearly abandoned running steam anymore. Thank goodness, the British still revere their heritage where one can still see, hear, smell and ride behind steam.
@FS2K4Pilot3 жыл бұрын
Depends on the railroad. Norfolk Southern and Burlington Northern Santa Fe will allow steam movements on their rails, schedules permitting, and there are numerous tourist railroads that operate them. Some, like the Strasbourg, even do steam-powered revenue freight work, still. And then, of course, there’s the Union Pacific Steam Program, with the Living Legend UP #844, UP #3985, and the Big Boy UP #4014. But yes, the major railroads do seem to be ignoring the lessons of the Southern and Norfolk Southern Steam Programs about the value of steam power for public relations.

There are still steam powered trains but its not wide spread. we have a train local to me in PA that runs a track from Reading pa to jim Thorpe pa. Its more of a sight seeing thing with the benefits of hitting the shops of a small town. Its really popular in fall when the leaves in the mountians change colors and they do christmas themed runs in the winter.

As a Canadian American and a devotee of many fan trips in both counties this was a delight to hear, as I recorded many over the years. The thing I find the most fascinating to listen for is the distinctive beat of a three cylinder locomotive, something one never hears in NA. When their timing is dead on and there is no distinctive lope, it is very hard to define at high speed.

Brought back wonderful memories of trainspotting (in its original meaning). As a youngster in the early 60s I used to take the local from Palmers Green to Wood Green (Alexandra Park) at weekends, and saw many A1, A3 and A4 Pacifics blasting through among all of the other less-glamorous locos; a multitude of tankers and the magnificent 2-10-0 9Fs. Also had the "bad luck" to miss a connection at Swindon once, and had to spend an entire afternoon on the platform... There were still a few Castle Class running then. It is wonderful to see that so many of these great machines have been lovingly restored to their original liveries and numbers, and kept running, long after their shedmates went to scrap. And they all look so much cleaner now than they did back then under BR! Super quality video, beautiful framing and composition, and above all super sound! My grand-daughter is now just starting to appreciate choo-choos, which gives me the ideal excuse to keep watching over and over. Thank you so much for this! from Toronto, Canada
