Being a PMP should one ignore future PMBOK Guide editions? One could, but to me, its my professional responsibility, first about being able to help people make sense out of the Guide and to know what is new.
Those PMP certified are leaders who need to be able to speak to those very questions you talk about even if they are not teaching PMP courses formally. When a new PMBOK Guide comes out, people are seeking direction from us certified PMPs and trying to navigate it.
Instead of spending 10 hours reading the book immediately, discussions like this help understand what is new so we can explain the ins and outs to beginners. Many new PMPs are in leadership positions and their management expects them to be able to guide and explain to others what is new. So it is less about you as an individual and more about them. Without the 7th edition we could still ace projects!
There is a ton of new information in the 7th edition and although its going on 2 decades, there is stuff in there new to me and others despite having read so many of PMI's standards.

Thanks so much for this video. I have been planning to develop a college course for project management and have had to postpone development for almost a year because I have been waiting to see how drastic the changes were in this edition. Cracking the book open for the first time today, I will be honest, I much prefer the 6th, but this video has helped make the transition less daunting.

Thank you for posting this video. I tested on the 4th edition, and needless to say, the prominence of Agile has certainly affected the practice and the PMBOK. I like the reorganization of information presented in the 7th edition. Heavy process basis provided by earlier editions provided for much stress and opposition in it's implementation. I believe the 7th edition will hopefully remove some of that resistance.

Best wishes Sampath! Please ONLY read the PMBOK Guide SIXTH EDITION! Seventh Edition is NOT needed! Everything on CAPM is strictly SIXTH right now. If you focus on all processes and knowledge areas and chapters, you will be good. Hi Sangarsh, actually you should focus on the AGILE PRACTICE GUIDE and 6th edition high-level concepts more than anything else. Also remember to read the PMP Exam content outline! PMP Exam is not based on any particular PMBOK Guide.
